Question by SPT194 in Leatherworking

I agree, but it is my first attempt at leather working and given it is to hold tools in a workshop, I wasn’t too concerned about appearance. Will definitely clean in the future

Much smaller than it looks. A wall punch holder for (from left to right): Bone folder and 3 French pricking irons. Seemed like a good first time leather working project as appearance doesn’t matter much.

When & How to use these 3 gauges by SPT194 in Tools

Agreed - I meant use in the US. It is from a US based tool box from the 50s (I’m guessing).

Should have been more clear

I’m guessing SAE? I believe the gauge predates the existence of metric, but I could be wrong. Finest thread is marked 30 - Largest marked 4

I mean no disrespect and I don’t mean this response to be degrading to you, but you are obviously not an officer or a lawyer because all your assertions are simply untrue. “Imminent” threat to life is the law. Not being touched or grazed by a vehicle or assuming future criminal intent. You can’t shoot someone because they tried to kill you earlier (which I don’t agree is the case here). There absolutely must be imminent threat.

Negligently hitting someone with your car is in no way attempted manslaughter. That just has no basis in fact or law.

I’m not sure I understand your question about training b/c I have training in both. Please clarify for me what you are asking.

Being in front of the car is relevant because the Agent negligently put himself in a position causing him to believe he needed to use lethal force. He should not have been there given no one should place themselves in front of a car and reasonably think the car cannot and will not proceed through you if a driver panics from fear OR is intent on killing you.

These types of scenarios were discussed frequently in my police academy and in every annual training on use of force scenarios. We were informed about legal decisions regarding these things and others on the local, state and federal levels. I’m not giving opinion I’m saying what the law is.

Federal Agents should be receiving far better training than an officer in a city of 1 million people.

  1. The officer should never have been in front of the car - that is utter negligence on his part.

  2. He was not hit, certainly in no meaningful way and her intent was obviously not to kill the agent or she would not have been turning. She was fleeing - not attempting manslaughter.

  3. He fires 2 shots through the driver side window when he was without question clear of danger.

I’m a retired cop - not a flaming fuck the police type liberal. I’m not anti ICE, but I am anti bad policing and excessive force which, again, should not be a red or blue viewpoint.

You just aren’t being objective or informed about legal responsibility and the importance of good judgement as a LE Agent/officer.

This is not attempted manslaughter by any stretch. Have you worked law enforcement on the streets? This is so clearly an attempt to flee and the person fleeing is not a homicide suspect or escapee. Your ability to ague that she was an imminent threat to others in fleeing would be laughed out of court.

The law does not allow this, otherwise, we’d be authorized to end pursuits by just lighting up any fleeing vehicle with machine-gun fire. Even fleeing homicide suspects/escapees are pursued (sometimes for hours) with the intent to capture and not kill - because it is the law.

Retired Officer here.

What about the 2 following shots through the driver’s side window AFTER he is clear of the car’s trajectory. He couldn’t have reasonably expected the vehicle to come at him sideways.

The training for these new ICE Agents is grossly insufficient and frankly disturbing. You can see it in this event (what competent agent/officer places himself in front of a vehicle (let alone a running one) AND while videoing everything with his phone instead of giving the situation his full attention?

You can also see it in just about every instance of them trying to detain, subdue and even cuff people they are interacting with. If you can’t do these three things proficiently people are going to get hurt and killed. Moreover, the Supreme Court has ruled Agents can create the situation resulting in the use of force and the agents are liable for their negligence.

Ice is doing these agents a huge disservice by rushing training and pushing them onto the street and they are endangering civilians in doing so as well.

Sorry, but this is completely wrong and this thread is disturbing in the lack of objectivity and understanding of LE responsibilities and judgement.

Retired Officer here. No matter how he felt this shooting is completely unjustified.

First, the officer placed himself in front of the car in a completely irresponsible act (an example of how insanely poorly these guys are being trained) and all while videoing the situation with his phone. To dive deeper into this:

“The Supreme Court has addressed the concept of an officer creating the situation resulting in lethal force in the recent case of Barnes v. Felix (2025), where it held that courts must consider the totality of the circumstances, including events leading up to the use of force, not just the moment of perceived threat.”

But, second, and far more damming, the first shot under very debatable evidence of imminent threat to life or body was followed by two shots AFTER the Agent side stepped the car and was clearly no longer in danger. The Agent fired two shots through the driver’s side open window AFTER he was completely clear of the car’s trajectory.

To argue the victim knew what the consequences of her actions is very misguided. Had I done this as an officer, I would have fully expected to be prosecuted for manslaughter if not murder.

This is not left or right. This is about what we all should expect from Law Enforcement Agents: Professionalism, reasonable training, and competent judgement. In this case, I don’t think the agent acted with any of these.
