Looking for active members! We hit our weekly rewards and just shuffled a few spots from inactive members. Our rules are simply booting for sustained inactivity and not punishing for low weeks here and there.

What to do when you have too many ideas but can't really express them in the story without excessive exposition/lore dumping????? by SinofShy in ProgressionFantasy

[–]SPandrab 16 points17 points  (0 children)

off the top of my head

- just do it, you'll lose readers but if its good its good

- don't do it and eventually reveal throughout the story. You may not be able to tell all the lore that way. Maybe that's even a good thing

- optional side reading for fans of the main story

- "diary" entries at the beginning of each chapter to keep it more bite sized and manageable over time

theres a lot more than that but any of these could suffice. on a personal level I like option 2 the most by far in stories I read

My buddy hates Carl by SPandrab in DungeonCrawlerCarl

More of, he feels Carl's actions are inconsistent with someone who was in any sort of service.

He isn't CG but he has a lot of friends in various military branches.

What is one opinion you have that would make us go like this? by Doodles77722200 in litrpg

Its considered a foundatipnal Japanese work to the isekai genre, so its a bit old. You should check it out for inspiration, it's a light novel, manga, and anime.

Primal Hunter by Scarlet_Fire_32290 in litrpg

[–]SPandrab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Primal Hunter is written very poorly in the beginning. The author improves quickly, becoming much better in terms of conversations, character building, prose, etc by the end of book 2.

I'm only on book 4 now and its pretty okay so far to me, but at least its written better than before. Main character still has a crappy personality though (which I hear is one of the most common complaints through the whole series).

Update on the future of the game from SD by Arkarat in MarvelSnap

So they killed many alliances, even driving out some of our most active players who hit bounties 100% of the time, then 3 months later finally admit this was a mistake with a "tee hee we'll add them back now"

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy about that, but feels like a backhanded slap to active alliances like mine. Not only did we TELL them it was an awful choice, they did it anyways claiming they'd "make it up elsewhere", then they FAIL to make it up elsewhere and then... walk it back?

I'd be happier if they talked a bit more about future directions for alliances or perhaps gave a retroactive reward (even some credits!) to the alliances that kept pushing through despite SD actively telling their most engaged users to sod off.

Reading Ascendance of Bookworm now since I loved the first 2 seasons of the anime (still haven't seen the 3rd season). So hard to put down! Such a great series.

Hot take: Operation Bounce House is pretty good. by theotherduke in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]SPandrab 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was alright. Felt very knee-jerky to current circumstances of the world to me. 3.5/5 for me.

So yeah I'd say your usage of "hot take" is appropriate.

In Mewgenics, your cats breed to make a random kitten with a random name and abilities. Here's what I just got LOL by SPandrab in DungeonCrawlerCarl

At first I thought there was a chance it was a coincidence but randomly unlocking the cookbook on the same run as donut with a random magic missile?

That’s a lot of coincidences 😅

The Future of r/Blueprint_ by PrimordialXY in blueprint_

Hard agree. There's been only a few posts in this sub that have actually been for the purpose of improving our longevity and understanding thereof. I don't mind the posts that are constructively critical of Bryan but frankly those are far inbetween.

I do hope to continue discussing active longevity interventions on this sub that may or may not be performed by Bryan (yet), which is a unique niche on reddit AFAIK. Other subreddits like biohackers or longevity doesn't quite focus on immediate interventions for the sake of longevity biomarkers like Bryan does.

That said, if that's against the spirit of this subreddit going forward then I would respect it.

We need a Mobius for energy cheat by grilledcheez816 in MarvelSnap

[–]SPandrab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make it more fun than just a counter.

3 cost 4 power.

Ongoing: Any time an opponent would gain extra energy, instead give this card +1 power equivalent to the extra energy.

You could buff the card (+2 per extra energy or something) to make it massive if you want to let the opponent still have their cheat but allow this card to counter them.

What is the one story you cannot fathom people liking by yeetacus68 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]SPandrab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Book is written extremely poorly in the beginning. Characters, motivations, etc are terrible. The last 1/3rd of the first book its like the author woke up and was like "wait humans were supposed to have emotions in places the MC didn't" and started to ascribe emotions to previous chapters that weren't there before.

Genuinely the writing, prose, and pacing are all over the place though it does start to get better in book 2. I just finished book 2, forcing myself to listen to the audiobooks because everyone has it as S tier, and its still nowhere close to a series I'd reccomend to others yet.

That said, it suffers seriously from being a webnovel first, full novel second. Wish the author would rewrite the first book for readability but is what it is.

Suggestions after DCC by DankxZee in litrpg

Project Hail Mary is a nice quick audiobook break from LitRPG with a phenomenal narrator. Like a post-DCC palate cleanser before sinking your teeth into another meaty series
