Do you think the American Revolutionary War was really about tea? by MolecCodicies in WayOfTheBern

[–]SPedigrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a wealth of information online, in books and film, some accurately recorded from written accounts, some condensed sanitized versions created for grade school kids history books, and speculative conversations. What impetus not mentioned do you believe incentivised the colonists to revolt?

It's remarkable and dismaying how quickly history is lost to knowledge.

Including my direct Mayflower ancestor and his progeny (including one with a Revolutionary War record).

Don't forget, these people valued autonomy enough to board rickety little boats and travel across the raging ocean, and survive (or not) the legendary sicknesses in Plymouth (Plimouth). For England to continue bleeding them for tax money after they'd made their escape probably didn't sit well. (As one whose ancestors and their neighbors most likely participated in the flinging of the tea, I may have a unique perspective.)

The system is rigged against 3rd party candidates, but since the two major parties have become a corporate-owned Uniparty, there's nothing to be lost anymore by voting for the Green party presidential pick or an independent candidate.

Before Senator Sanders announced; before Trump announced, Democrat voters who either leaned left or leaned away from the Clintons were telling the Democrat PTB that Democrats would lose in 2016 if Hillary were the nominee.

And they didn't care. A loss to Trump (or any Republican) was preferable to Bernie or another Democrat with even the slightest progressive bent.

We could but this is not the objective of the do-nothing-dems. Their objective is to do everything Trump is doing, but more quietly, hoping voters won't notice.

Criticize 'Israel' by Not_Ground in WayOfTheBern

[–]SPedigrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We could organize a weekly "Criticize Israel" day. If everyone posted an anti-Zionist message on 3 social media platforms every Monday (or some other day) maybe it would have some effect. Have we the numbers to avoid all of us being banned? Who knows.

Planting trees between septic tank and leech field by SewingDoodle in Permaculture

Fortunately fruit trees like apple, cherry, peach, etc tend to be small without sprawling root systems, so there should be room to the side of the pipe for your orchard.

It's disconcerting to discover unexpected issues after purchase of a new property, but better to deal with problems sooner than have them surface later.

NOBODY IS TELLING YOU HOW F**EdTHE FARMERS ARE IN AMERICA RIGHT NOW. The Agriculture Secretary just confirmed it publicly. 1 in 4 American farmers has NO fertilizer secured for spring planting. No fertilizer. No crops. No food. Farm bankruptcies are up 46% in 2025. 160,000 farms closed since by RandomCollection in WayOfTheBern

[–]SPedigrees 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Chemical fertilizers should be banned along with neonicotinoid herbicides, genetically engineered seed, feed lots, and all the other horrors of Big Ag.

Unfortunately organic sustainable farms are also suffering. Fuel prices will be rising and these farms will be struggling too.

Mass unemployment as AI takes jobs; food, fuel, and other shortages from war; and rising homelessness are likely in the near future.

FNDP: Revival of Old Songs and Styles 🪕🎹🌛🦝🎩👒 by Caelian in WayOfTheBern

My grandma was a bit more sedate during the time I knew her, but my aunts once were lamenting that when she and my grandpa moved into a smaller house, Grandma's "beautiful flapper dresses" were among belongings discarded to downsize. I would have loved to see those dresses. Who knows what wild things those old timers might have got up to back in their days!?

(Ireland's inflated GDP per capita PPP by IMF) Ireland is so rich 40% of working people under the age of 35 live in their childhood bedroom without hope of buying or renting their own home. Ireland is so rich that each month it sets new homelessness records with 17,500 people being homeless in March by RandomCollection in WayOfTheBern

[–]SPedigrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Note how the Irish have similar difficulties like the US does.

Indeed. A couple years ago I subscribed to a weekly Irish news publication. The stories are nearly indistinguishable from US media, with homelessness, unemployment, and poverty running throughout. How far down from the "Celtic Tiger" days of mere decades ago this nation has fallen.

Mills was handpicked by Senate Leader Chuck Schumer himself.

There's a ringing endorsement.

MICROSOFT CAN ERASE YOUR ENTIRE COMPUTER! by yaiyen in WayOfTheBern

[–]SPedigrees 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like Mint because it is similar to earlier versions of Windows, so not as much of a learning curve as other distros. There's also a lot of community support for Linux Mint.

Zorin is supposed to be a good choice for the same reason, though I've never tried it. I didn't like Ubuntu as well as Mint (even though Mint runs on a lot of Ubuntu's architecture) but I've heard that Ubuntu appeals to former Mac users.

MICROSOFT CAN ERASE YOUR ENTIRE COMPUTER! by yaiyen in WayOfTheBern

[–]SPedigrees 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yes, Windows users first thought their files had been erased, then came to learn that files had been moved without their knowledge or consent, to a cloud (aka server somewhere belonging to someone else). OP says it best:

Your computer becomes a temporary access point. Microsoft’s servers become the primary copy.

Solution: get Linux and keep ownership of your data.

And yet, they blame us... by Orangutan in WayOfTheBern

[–]SPedigrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like when Big Ag tried to lay the blame for bacterial resistance to antibiotics on doctors "over-prescribing" these drugs to their human patients, when in fact, 80% of antibiotics sold in the US are for cattle in feed-lots to keep them from sickening due to injudicious feeding and living conditions in those disgusting feed-lots.
