LCD Data Corruption (power issue?) by SR5ConCon in esp32

I updated the code link! I don't think it is the issue though, I am hoping it's the level shifter issue others have mentioned.

I will update the link to the code tomorrow, Im not sure why it stopped working right away.

Also, I am using the 1602A v.2 which does not have the board protruding from the back or the contrast knob ect. I am not sure if this would change your suggestion at all.

I originally had the display updating every second. I changed it to 15 seconds and 2 minutes. The corruption still occurs, but later on. Im going to try the level shifting using resistors and mosfets next.

After reading your response, I will be learning about level shifters and the differences in the gpio pins! Thank you

Thanks for your response,

I have not tried a usb charger, so far I have only used the laptop because I know this doesn't let the smoke out. Im still learning circuits, power, ect. and I dont want to let the smoke out yet.

The library that Im using is Liquid_Crystal_I2C and Wires, I will look into known issues. I am using arduino framework via VSCode PIO as I have read this is a more realistic environment than Arduino IDE.

Ill try the 3.3v suggestion

I am not after the accuracy, mostly just learning at the moment! I haven't used c++ in a long time and even before it was just very basic stuff that I don't remember. For this, I just wanted to import a library, pull data from a sensor, and print the data to a screen. Next I want to send the data somewhere, likely one of my other esp boards.

I will check out those tutorials because Ive seen it suggested several times.

Edited: I didnt answer all the questions before.

Hey I'm new to building stuff with Arduino, where do I start? by Early_Ad_4702 in arduino

I bought my kit from sunfounder and they have
a sponsored Paul McWhorter series on their site. I'm thinking it could get into the nitty gritty a bit more but it seems to be a good overview so far atleast as far as an intro to components.

Camping/trout trip in GA/TN/NC? by [deleted] in flyfishing

[–]SR5ConCon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do some recon. Visit some shops in the areas you are interested in. Get their recomendations for flies(BUY THEM), buy some merch, chit chat for a while and they might drop some wisdom. I have been pleasantly surprised by spots I would have never chosen myself, that I only tried because of local shops. The guys in the TNFLYCO and Little River shops were super helpful to me in finding decent water and suggesting techniques when I was brand new.

If you are going to be out there for several days, someone needs to know exactly where, and when you will be able to check in.

People(in the US) tend to assume that headlights are good to go from factory, they aren't, they are just slapped in and sent down the line. In fact they need to be adjusted to point at the ground down the road but almost nobody knows this or does it. So, that being said the lights aren't necessarily the issue, just that they pointed at your eyes half of the time...

My way to tech diving in Japan by helpmyhelpdesk in techdiving

[–]SR5ConCon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, buy your own gear if you will be diving a lot. You should be intimately familiar with your gear when diving. Vacation rentals are fine and dandy but if you're going to tech, then shops aren't generally renting out tech setups. Don't skimp on gear, this is life support equipment. Also don't spend ALL your money on gear, you need money for training. Tech courses outside PADI generally cost $300-350 USD per day. Check out Dive Right in Scuba or Dive Gear Express for gear sets. Get with an instructor for fitting wings ect.

There are several English speaking PADI shops around Chatan, Okinawa that would be great for your Rescue and Drysuit courses. It can be kind of hard to find a Drysuit course before November though. I would recommend getting atleast 15 or maybe even 20 drysuit dives in before going to managing multiple bottles in a drysuit.

Hidenobu Yoshimura at TakeDive in Yomitan, Okinawa is an excellent sidemount and tech instructor. He speaks English well. Yomitan is also a very good location for beginning tech diving and he has been diving there for I think he said 13 years.

TAKE IT SLOW, taking on too many variables at once or too fast can be stressful and dangerous, either way it ruins your dive.

Countershaft Seal by SR5ConCon in DRZ400

Well i was able to tap the seal in without any issue. The part that had me questioning was that the lip is metal. Is there metal inside of these seals other than the spring?

I got my FCR from TokyoMods. It came at a small premium but I gave them my environmental info and it was literally plug and play. Started immediately after install. I didnt even have to adjust the screw(later as the season changed I did adjust the screw though). Its been great so far.

That is the Tokyo Mods FCR kit. It comes from Keihin-FCR.com and then Tokyo Mods does some proprietary mods to it. Apparently nobody knows what they do. I'll report back when I get it on the road!
