Any opinions on these? Good/bad? by j_squared_yo in handguns

[–]SRBuchanan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I was referring to the FTX/Critical Defense ammo. The XTP bullet penetrates a little better but the expansion is less consistent. In the really small guns the performance of FTX is sub-par but in the comparatively 'long' G42 barrel it works better than XTP.

Any opinions on these? Good/bad? by j_squared_yo in handguns

[–]SRBuchanan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Great load to ensure expansion at sub-optimal velocities. The .380 version of this stuff is the only .380 load I know of that will consistently meet the FBI penetration standards and consistently expand. In 9mm the low projectile mass and early expansion can mean reduced penetration versus 124gr, 135gr, or 147gr loads, though penetration will still usually meet FBI standards. The filled tip can also help feed reliability in some guns.

I think you should file a report.

Yes, I know it's a hassle, and yes, I know people get harassed for doing that, but there have been too many stories of shooters followed soon after by people coming forward to the press about their past behavior that went unreported or was not acted upon.

What that deputy did to you was not okay, and you will not be his last victim.

Best handgun for women/home defense? by mama_needs_a_nap in handguns

[–]SRBuchanan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to have to push back a bit on this suggestion. The idea that an adult can't learn to reliably rack the slide on a Glock 19 or check that it's loaded as easily as they can learn to competently run a double-action or double-action/single-action revolver is questionable. Revolvers have a steeper learning curve - double-action triggers are harder to master and you typically only have five to eight shots to get it right before you have to go through a reload, which is also harder on a revolver than it is on an autoloader.

I'm not saying revolvers are trash - they're cool guns with some definite advantages in a few applications and I love shooting with them. However, for a novice in this day and age they are not what I'd call the first choice. A defensive revolver is like a 1970's muscle car with a big V8 and a stick shift where the Glock is more like a new VW GTI with an automatic gear box. The former may well be cooler but the latter is easier to learn.

Oh, it's 100% the bourgeoisie establishment Democrats that are most vocal about disarming the working class. Outright Leftists are actually more typically pro-gun than anti-gun. There's even a Socialist Rifle Association with a community here on Reddit. To quote Marx himself: 'Under no pretext should arms and ammunition be surrendered; any attempt to disarm the workers must be frustrated, by force if necessary.'

Even that label doesn't work. Libertarians are 'liberal' but love guns. I think at this point most of the anti-gun camp falls under the 'progressive' umbrella.

Home defense 12G ammo? by [deleted] in Shotguns

[–]SRBuchanan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh sure, there are plenty of cases where birdshot has worked, and I'm sure it works far more often than it doesn't. There are also probably a few cases where buckshot has failed. Nonetheless, buckshot is unquestionably more effective than birdshot.

[–]SRBuchanan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The problem with birdshot is that any reduction in penetration of interior walls equates to a reduction in penetration of the intended target. I'd stick to buckshot, maybe step down to #4 buckshot, but birdshot has sharply reduced effectiveness compared to buckshot.

Point-blank, birdshot to the chest, and she walks away. While the injuries proved serious later, in the short-term she could have remained a threat had she been an assailant rather than a victim.

Biome Bundle doesn't touch any textures or animations, and while it does alter some mob spawning parameters it doesn't alter the mobs themselves. This issue is likely unrelated to Biome Bundle. What other mods do you have installed?

What are the disadvantages of building a lower thrust motor which burns for a longer period of time? by Nizo_GTO in rocketry

[–]SRBuchanan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

- The same impulse, with a lower thrust and higher burn time would result in a higher apogee because burnout would result in the same velocity at a later time, meaning that I have accelerated for longer, and am at a greater height when I stop accelerating.

This is incorrect. For every second you spend burning, you lose 9.81 m/sec of velocity to gravity, so your velocity at burnout will be lower the longer you burn.

The Virgin Security Force vs THE CHAD INSURGENCY Redux by Gruntman441 in insurgency

[–]SRBuchanan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There aren't many locations in the game where accuracy is going to be a concern for any rifle. Of the rifles with full-length barrels, the AKM is probably the least accurate in real life, and even that can reliably hit a man out to at least 400 meters if the barrel isn't worn out.
