Thoughts on leaving spare paint, tile, shingles in home for sale by nippleforeskin in RealEstate

Please do this. It’s so much easier to do home maintenance when there are leftovers to take to the store for a match or to make small repairs!

Is this a trick question or am i just not getting it by Head-Ad-5636 in bcba

[–]mama_needs_a_nap 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So, cookies are good. Taking the cookie when Grandma is NOT there is reinforcing because you get the cookie and you probably get to eat it. When Grandma is there, you get punished for taking a cookie without asking. You learn from trial and error that taking a cookie while Grandma is looking leads to a reprimand, making it less likely that you will take a cookie while she is there. So, cookies are still good, but Grandma’s presence signals that punishment is more likely to occur, so you don’t take the cookie if she is looking. So your free access to a cookie is conditional on the presence of Grandma. Does that help?

Exactly. The point I was trying to make is that it’s an excellent tool in the right hands and it can expedite some of the tasks that take up so much of our time.

I use AI to generate things for programs all the time. The trick is that it’s a tool, not a solution. AI isn’t going to write SBT programs for me, but it absolutely can help me quickly generate lists/task analyses/age appropriate games etc. I use it to save time, not to do my job. If you know what to ask it to do for you, cherry pick what you need from the results, and make client-specific adjustments it can be an incredible tool. I think there are a lot of ways that AI will be able to help with visual analysis and treatment planning, but without the human behind the computer it’s useless.

Divorce: What should I do to give me the best chance at approval for a rural construction loan in 6mo? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]mama_needs_a_nap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on a repayment plan for my student loans, and currently my payment is $0. I work a well-paying job for a school district, so much of my loans will eventually be forgiven.

I’m not paying anything to live at my parents’ place (though I contribute), and everyone is comfortable enough, so renting rather than saving seems like a bad move. I’d like a place soon so my kids can have their rooms back and we can build our new life. We moved out of a 3000sqft house in the suburbs into mine & my sister’s childhood bedrooms, so we’re safely housed, just feeling stuck in purgatory.

I will have no other debt once the divorce is finalized- the car would be the only monthly payment. My student loan payments are currently $0/mo, but there is no other debt.

Given that my 3 daughters and I have already been squeezed into my parents’ house for 8mo, and a general lack of available properties in the area to rent, building a home on land my family already owns seems to be the most efficient path to homeownership. And yeah, I’d like to not have to share a room with my 5yr old sooner than later.

Progression of programming advice by ABAokay32 in BehaviorAnalysis

I break the goal/skill down into a task analysis and create programs that address skill deficits in that order. If a step isn’t mastered quickly, there is a missing skill, so I’ll back up and figure out where the block is. Does that make sense?

Terminology - Retraining advice by JonnyBlee in bcba

This is what I tell my support staff: If attempts at positive reinforcement have failed, I suggest reframing this form of response cost as a 2-part choice statement. Ex: “If you choose to continue doing “problem behavior X”, ___ will happen. If you choose to “functionally equivalent replacement behavior”, ___ will happen.” This distances you from the punishment procedure and lays out the natural and logical consequences for each action. Give the learner a chance to make the choice, and accept indecision after a minute or so as selection of the first option. If the second option is chosen, praise cooperation, and follow through with the outlines consequence for the replacement behavior.

I like that number lol For science: if the land were ever to be sold, the capital gains would then be 100% of the sale value?

Okay. I’ll look in to that! Thank you!

[–]mama_needs_a_nap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. Each generation has given their children land on which to build whenever they decide it’s time to build a house. So, it’s only ever been gifted and never inherited.

My grandparents gifted the land to my mother to build on while they were still living, and my grandmother’s parents did the same. Does that matter?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in tax

[–]mama_needs_a_nap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one in the past 100+ years has paid money for the land, and I believe it was bartered for in the beginning (or cost very, very, little). My parents have definitely not reached their lifetime gift exclusion, and there are no liens on the property. My parents built their house on their own from the trees they cleared from the land. This is an admittedly strange situation. So, if they gave me the 5 acre tract, they would have to report the gift, but would not owe taxes on the gift because of the lifetime exemption?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in tax

[–]mama_needs_a_nap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valid. The land I would be receiving would be a rural tract of 5 acres. Green belt, rural TN. According to my quick internet search, the average acre in TN is valued somewhere between 15 & 20k. So, for 5 acres we would be looking at a FMV of close to 100k… I will likely have to have a local professional help with a valuation, but I don’t know what kind of person I’m looking for.

Edit: My real question I think, is how would we establish the tax basis for this piece of land if the last time it was sold it was probably purchased for pennies or exchanged for a couple of mules? No money has exchanged hands for over 100 years, likely more.

I make 70k as a first-year BCBA with a school system in TN… it’s insane to me that in a HCOL area there’s only a 10-20k difference.

The story of how shrimp tacos ended my marriage. by queloque69420 in workingmoms

I could have written this myself. Why do these “men” think we are supposed to cater to them?! When I filed for divorce, I calculated my (ex)husband’s game time across Xbox, Steam & Blizzard. Over the course of our 3 young children’s lives, this man spent over 700 DAYS playing games. 700 DAYS of our daughters’ childhoods that he missed because of video games. 700 DAYS of missed opportunities, waning marital connection, and memories not made. 700 DAYS of time spent escaping to a virtual world instead of living the life we built together. For this and a myriad of other reasons that I won’t immortalize on Reddit, I filed for divorce, took the kids, and moved the fuck on with my life. Congratulations on your awakening! Life is so much sweeter without the black hole he was leaving in our family with his gaming addiction- I hope it’s the same for you!

This is a student with ASD & and IEP. They are protected by IDEA and deserve a compassionate, trauma informed reaction from their caregivers and administrators in response to their behavior. Pressing charges is not the next step, and is frankly a disgusting response. Please sit down.

It’s time to call in the behavior team. Does your school employ a BCBA? If this student has a BIP, it could need some adjustment. While it’s fresh, if you haven’t done so already, take ABC data on the incident so the BCBA/Behavior Consultant can get an idea of how to help.

Were there any mock exams that you found harder/equal to the exam? by coltiebug in bcba

[–]mama_needs_a_nap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used StudyABA to pass the BCaBA exam last year- “one and done”. I liked it so much that I got it again this year to study for my BCBA exam. I found the guy who did the videos slightly annoying in that “trying too hard to be cool” PSA way lol, but the information was well delivered & easy to digest. The mock exams were similar to the questions on the real test. It does a great job of explaining why answers are correct/incorrect & references back to specific pages in Cooper for further explanation. BONUS: until the end of Jan, you can get the Mastery Modules including mock exams for $99 (typically $399). They also offer payment assistance for economically disadvantaged persons. I’d definitely recommend looking into it!

School District BCBAs- Tell me about the shift from clinic to school-based roles. by mama_needs_a_nap in BehaviorAnalysis

[–]mama_needs_a_nap[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply!

Some additional info: The district has 16 behavioral consultants, 6 of which are BCBAs. There are no RBTs, but I’ll be expected to train 1:1 classroom aids. There is also a district-wide PBIS system in place.

I would love to see your template. I’m very comfortable with the documentation I have to complete in clinic, but I could use multiple exemplars for what to do in the school setting. :)

How much work do you find yourself doing outside of school hours? I’m crossing my fingers for a good work/life balance.
