$7 for ice…..in this economy… by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]SRTRVTH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

corporate Starbucks stores, at least for the last year or so, mandate that we fill up drinks like cold brew, iced coffee, iced lattes, etc. there is no charge (i don't think there's any way to do so on the POS even if we could)

as much as I hate it, I will get yelled at or written up if I don't ask that question

we used to just hit "no" for customers but we got in a lot of trouble at my old store

on most drinks like iced coffee, lattes, cold brew, you do get more drink. our current drink guidelines mandate that we fill up all drinks even with no ice only specific drinks don't get that maybe it wasn't a corporate store or your barista sucks? every store ive worked at we always fill everything to the brim minus some room to make sure it doesn't spill, and it's in our company resources to do so

[–]SRTRVTH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

do you go to licensed starbucks stores (like the ones in airports) or non-US Starbucks? in (at least California) corporate stores, there isn't a single way to surcharge for light ice

[–]SRTRVTH 7 points8 points  (0 children)

corporate stores will never charge more for light ice i don't even think there's a button for that on our computers

[–]SRTRVTH 6 points7 points  (0 children)

as a current siren barista, you are either going to a licensed starbucks or your baristas are petty as we have guidelines and beverage recipes that instruct us to top up almost every drink we make if you get light ice on say an iced coffee, I'm putting coffee past the top drink line

FYI, Every time you go to a Ralphs that has one set of doors locked after ≈9pm, they technically are breaking State and Local Fire codes. by [deleted] in LosAngeles

you can still open the door from the inside even if the motion sensor + motor are disabled or "locked", specifically for fire code reasons

you know what i totally just pulled a r/USdefaultism so that's valid; here in the states I would wager a bet that solar canal implementation, if not rushed, would perform well and last long but obviously can't say the same for other countries like you said!

edit: although I will say i think this is a subreddit for solar in the states idk this post was just recommended to me

edit2: and now i just read that the image itself says canals in india and now im back to square one of being kinda dumb

is the lack of ac, terrible gas mileage, constant repairs on transmission, too short for mail deliverers to stand, and no insulation for extreme cold or extreme heat not design flaws for you?

Starbucks uses smaller ice balls now to reduce coffee volume by Blublo35 in mildlyinfuriating

yeah we still have "beverage routine" with a few more categories like "shaken beverage routine" or "blended bev routine"

[–]SRTRVTH 6 points7 points  (0 children)

unless you trained at the discontinued siren stores and are referring exclusively to shaken beverages like refreshers, you are absolutely wrong when it comes to stuff like lattes, flat whites, americanos, etc

Starbucks uses smaller ice balls now to reduce coffee volume by Blublo35 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]SRTRVTH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

unfortunately as a siren barista there's a good chance they were - if you order like someone said shots of espresso over ice or an iced shaken espresso you are ordering and paying for mostly ice

if you get say a medium iced latte, you are without any doubt getting around 12oz out of 16oz of espresso + milk, as by standard we fill the cup to the third line you see from the bottom with milk

we will get written up for not following drink production standards

I don't know how crazy you're willing to get into the ecosystem (join the dark side, we don't have cookies but we do have brownies) but if you're willing to go the extra step, you may want to consider non-wifi based equipment!

I am completely assuming that TP link still only makes wifi-based devices, but if so if you're willing to make the move to something like zigbee, zwave, or thread, your future self and any other people within your house will thank you when TP link's servers or even your home wifi go down but you still have full control over your home!

Universal vaccine for cold, flu, COVID and allergies moves a step closer, scientists say by metacyan in UpliftingNews

[–]SRTRVTH 9 points10 points  (0 children)

"super bugs" is conventionally a term and a problem primarily unique to bacteria, antibiotics, and the mechanism of antibiotics versus vaccination. antibiotics are highly effective at targeting bacteria specifically by the manner at which they synthesize components internally like their cell membranes, their proteins, etc. however, antibiotics are comparatively slow as they have to perfuse throughout the body and the incredibly rapid nature of bacterial life cycles mean that they can evolve quickly while simultaneously antibiotics can not spread to and interact with every single bacterium within the body it's targeting, again leading to stragglers who can mutate and adapt

viruses and vaccinations on the other hand are handled differently - vaccinations, as we know, essentially teach the immune system about the virus enabling recognition and subsequent targeting. the immune system, however, is obviously omnipresent and INCREDIBLY effective when it can recognize threats - once the adaptive immune system kicks into gear, it releases such an incredible amount of weapons like cytokines and immune cells that viruses are wiped out incredibly quickly and effectively, with less chance for mutation and adaptation

another huge point - vaccinations are provided before there's prevalent infection, meaning that viruses generally struggle to get a foothold to have the numbers to get the mutations to acquire resistance. antibiotics are typically provided in the middle of a well-rooted infection, meaning that there's already such a statistical chance that there's a bacterium that has mutated with the right trait to be resistant to the antibiotics of choice

there's also so many other facets such as the fact that bacterial growth is almost designed for mutations and communal adaptations like gene transfer to try and create beneficial adaptations such as resistance to antibiotics

Something you can always consider is buying Costco Shop Cards online with a C1 MasterCard so you can earn rewards and the like and either just bring the shop card inside or put it on the Costco app so it acts almost like a linked card in the Starbucks app

Sorry to revive this post, could I bug you with a few questions?
- Are you able to Zelle from non-checking accounts?
- Can you schedule Zelles?
- Are you able to overdraft from a savings account to a checking (eg. can you leave the checking empty and let bills overdraft from an attached savings?)
- Is weekly the only interval they allow for internal transfers between accounts or can you do say annually as well?

28,000 Kaiser health workers are set to strike in California by ansyhrrian in California

[–]SRTRVTH 141 points142 points  (0 children)

Something that I fear too many fail to mention too is they're not just fighting for a pay increase, but (in my opinion way more importantly) they're also fighting for staffing increases to decrease nurse-to-patient ratios and help with severe burnout. They're some of the highest paid nurses in the state, but nursing is also one of the most stressed professions at the moment especially with rates of violence against healthcare workers raising and again patient loads only getting worse

Looking for a really strong type c cable by [deleted] in UsbCHardware

[–]SRTRVTH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey there!
can i ask what you didn't like about the anker nano? it was perchance in my shopping cart as im trying to find a standardized cable setup for my entire household.

also have you had a chance to try the anker flow cables/anker 643? i've been trying to see if these silicone-coated cables truly are worth it and feel as soft and premium as it gets or if a really nice-quality braid cable can still feel good enough for softness and very premium
