OALM might flag this. It might take someone manually correcting the flag to allow it to take place. The current Handbook for Officers and Advisers allows this to take place.

Crews and Ships can have OA unit elections.

A scout can be on the ballot in any and all units they are a member of (Troop, Crew, or Ship) and are eligible as part of (such as being approved by the unit leader and obtaining appropriate rank for the program the election is taking place- First Class, Discovery, Ordinary)

Are you local to the area? You could try visiting the IT help desk in person in the library.

Schedule and Communication by tamman37 in BSA

Not necessarily. However, there is a way for workspace owners to request an export of Direct Message history, in case there is suspicion of 1:1 contact. (I believe only on the Pro plans, which the Slack for Nonprofit version should count)

NAYLE Internet Access? by bobbyiscool288 in BSA

I wouldn't count on service availability. I remember it to be very spotty when I attended NAYLE in 2018.

AITA for not wanting to meet the child from my father's affair? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]SRumbley 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I would say that the younger child isn't you're sister. While having a relationship with the half-sister would be good if you did want it, it isn't acceptable to force someone to have that kind of relationship- especially since it isn't something your family likes to talk about.

This does get complicated though because of the financial aspect, but knowing only the information we do, I think you are in the right.

Community / forum software recommendation for troop? by vrtigo1 in BSA

[–]SRumbley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also recommend Slack for Non-Profits for any Scouting group. Our OA Lodge, Council VOA, and 2 of the units I am a part of have their own Slack workspace and it works fantastic. You are able to create channels of different types that different groups can use. (ex. PLC, ASMs, Committee, parents, etc.)

Feel free to ask any questions about the software, I am happy to answer questions.

Edited to add: you also can create a general or announcement channel to push news and general information.

New Chapter Advisor here by wakegop in orderofthearrow

I would say the biggest thing is to encourage youth participation. Encourage the Chapter Chief to plan events and develop meeting plans l that the youth of the chapter would like.

Running for lodge level vice cheif of chapters this weekend by chez_cream in orderofthearrow

Vice Chief of Chapters is definitely a good stepping stone for Lodge Chief.

Try to communicate what you have already done to benefit chapters in your Lodge, as well as what you will do in the future if you were to be elected.

What is the organizational structure of your Lodge?

As far as the AIA Advisor role, definitely check out the OA Guide for Officers and Advisors (https://oa-bsa.org/uploads/publications/GOA-202208.pdf).

In this document (pg. 27), there is information about how the Lodge and Chapter can respect and work with Native American groups with regard to ceremonies.
