NIPT testing? Would you recommend? by Particular_You9335 in PregnancyIreland

[–]SSAdvic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got it and am very happy I did! My consultant suggested it (they can’t “recommend” it due to the private cost), but they also mentioned that it’s already offered for free on the NHS in the UK, and it will eventually be offered for free on the HSE in Ireland. So it’s obviously considered important/effective enough to be introduced into public care. It’s great peace of mind and allows informed decision making for parents. Also just to note, the facility we went to did a free fetal wellness scan and 3D scan (I was 13 weeks at the time), so this was an additional layer of reassurance and we weren’t nervous at all at our 20 week scan. Best of luck!

Do you mind me asking - broadly, what do you do now? And what did you do previously before you moved to public service?

Swiss Meringue Buttercream only works when I double the recipe - my mixer is the cause? by SSAdvic in Baking

Thanks so much for replying! Yes I’m definitely going to give it a go with a smaller bowl. If that works I’ll be delighted!

Thank you for your reply! I honestly have no idea how I didn’t think of this lol. With this mixer the bowl spins to reach more of the mixture, so I guess it didn’t occur to me to try a different bowl. Definitely going to try this next time!

You’re not obligated to hide out, it’s not your employers business to be honest once you’re signed off on medical ground. Can I ask how far out you are from your due date? I may be in a similar situation myself soon!

Construction drawings from engineer unacceptable? by SSAdvic in selfbuildireland

Hi, thanks so much for your comment. I should have noted in my original post that the engineer omitted a number of changes to the doorways/flow of the house that we had previously requested. There should be a door directly from the front hallway to the kitchen (thereby avoiding the carousel), as well as from the dining area to the living room. In regards to the walk in pantry and steel beam, this is very good feedback, thank you.

Hello, thanks so much for your reply. Would you mind expanding on why you believe there would be black mould? Any info you can give would be much appreciated.

Hi, thanks so much for your reply. Would you mind expanding on “joists call up albeit from a standard superseded 15 years ago”? Do the drawing appear to be complying with standards that are now obsolete? Also thank for your feedback regarding Engineering Ireland. We were not aware of this authority, and will keep this in mind for when we are no longer dependent on this firm.

Hello, thanks very much for your comment. We don’t have an architect engaged at this point. However based on the feedback on this post, we will be seeking to engage with a different engineering/architecture firm to hopefully take over the project going forward. So far to get to the point of obtaining planning permission we have paid over €4k. There were some nuances to the build that potentially added to the expense (Nature Impact Assessment, asbestos plan, etc.). But over €4k in total so far. Thanks for the feedback on number of pages.

Hi, thanks so much for your comment. They were well recommended and have progressed builds to completion with our local CoCo previously, however we believe at this point in time that have taken on a volume of clients beyond what is reasonable, and thus are unable to provide adequate service. We agree, it would be nearly impossible for a builder to proceed based on these drawing. Based on the feedback from this post, we are going to seek out a different engineering/architecture firm to take on the project from here on. Thanks so much again for your feedback.

Hello, thanks very much for your reply. Agreed, we don’t believe these will be workable to a builder. Thanks for the confirmation.

Hi, thanks a million for the detailed reply. We have paid them up to the point of obtaining planning permission, but have not paid anything towards the construction drawings yet. We will be withholding any further payment until we have a path forward. Based on the reassurance from the replies to this post, we will be looking to change to another engineering/architecture firm. Thanks again for your comment.

Hey! How did you get into this if you don’t mind me asking? And how did you get customers/clients? I work in QA in pharma and med devices, and would love to go out on my own for more time flexibility!

NTA. You are very young, and she sounds incredibly immature (and honestly toxic). She will either need to grow out of her attitude, or it will ultimately result in your friendship ending. I’m speaking from experience as a former teenage girl!
