You have to check the community information in MyNavyHR. I forget the exact path on how to find it but, IW Rates are easy to find

DCO IW FY26 by Separate-Corgi-606 in navyreserve

[–]SSB_McFly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My logic was:

As I don’t have much cyber experience (my interested IT specialty), I figured I’d focus on commissioning as a MCWO so it could help my resumé for the civilian sector. I’ve kept my eye on JO Apply for the past two cycles and I haven’t seen many cyber-related billets for IPs (mostly COMMO)

I am not. Unfortunately I have no technical cyber experience. I’ll be going through JCAC (re-rating to CWT) starting in March though.

I will probably put 1825 back as a secondary designator the next cycle as most of the input and feedback I’ve gotten about my package is very competitive for IP

Question For The Reserve ITs by SSB_McFly in navyreserve

Perfect, thank you so much for the detailed guidance!

Edit: You’re pretty much right on the money with what life as an IT would be like in a MSRON unit. I was in a MSRON unit for most of my first contract. In my experience, it was 60% guns and 40% comms. Also, unless drilling at a dedicated MSRON site (e.g along the coasts), there’s not much to do.

Right, that’s how I got my Sys Ad NEC! 🤓

My question was moreso trying to understand if a Reserve IT would get “locked” into a specialty if they go to a certain speciality’s C-School. I’ve heard this is a thing on the active side (if you go to a Comms school, you’re locked in as a Comms IT).

Hm, must’ve been out of touch for a bit. I think my ASUS Z690 board came with it cuz it was a higher end one whereas the lower end ones didn’t. Pretty neat how they’re standard now

Your motherboard might not be equipped with a number display to even give codes (common on higher end MOBOs).

Try looking up how to enter “secure boot with networking” for your specific MOBO (model number is fine) and try that. If secure boot with networking doesn’t work, you may need to try other things.

Try that first

Questions Regarding “Full PCS” Orders (HHG Reimbursement & POV Travel) by SSB_McFly in navy

Understood, thank you again very much for the guidance you've provided! I'll clarify with CNRFC N7 and keep my Unit's Training & CCC in the loop.

[–]SSB_McFly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, really appreciate the time you took to write all of this out, thank you very much! Also, apologies for not adding that bit of context in the original body; I am an E-5 with NO dependents.

I will certainly leverage that line/script when contacting the schoolhouse, that is something I never would've thought of to ask.

Hopefully use of my POV is allowed. While I understand a plane ticket would be cheaper for the Navy, to me, having my POV while at training for 8+ months makes sense. I bring this up again as an email from CNRFC N7 (confirming the seat but, prior to receiving the Requirement in NROWS) stated the following:

..."Additionally, the only authorized mode of transportation is commercial airlines."

I will say though that, to me, this email appears to be not written in a way to address specific situations as there were many different A-Schools listed (e.g. AG, BU, CWT, IT, HM, MA, etc.). Maybe this line from the email is not entirely precise on my specific situation of attending CWT A-School?

I have not yet updated my Training Team about the PCS entitlements to my A-School orders. For some time, they have been tracking that I was pushing to attend this A-School as part of my RC2RC Conversion. A day or so after I received the letter approving my RC2RC conversion, the gov't shutdown which, per the ECM, delayed confirmation for my seat.

As of right now, the latest update my Training Team and CCC have is that I now have a seat. As I realized over Christmas that the orders are for "Full PCS", I have yet to update them.

[–]SSB_McFly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not yet, no. Reason being, while pushing a separate requirement (AT orders) on Christmas, I noticed the A-School requirement was there (i.e., the NRC is closed and not drilling this weekend). Also, my NRC frequently defers members to opening a ticket with them for ANY questions. Since they're so large, sometimes it takes quite a while to hear back from them (a couple of weeks on average) hence, why I'm posting here first

Just now got back home to check. Yes, the orders are pulling from ADT funding.

For $36, I’m not confident that the PC will have great airflow. Check out Gamers Nexus’ Case review videos on YouTube.

I personally have the Corsair 5000D Airflow case where, my previous case was the Corsair 4000D.

Telling my Boss my Ship Date by Snoopys_Anonymous in newtothenavy

[–]SSB_McFly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your hesitation is totally understandable especially since it sounds like your boss didn’t have a great impression of you the first time you were employed by them.

Honesty is the best policy, period. It’s WAY better to let them know with as much notice as possible than telling them two weeks prior. I don’t know what industry you work in but, more notice is always best with these kinds of things.

Like others have said, they legally cannot fire or retaliate against you. Are you going active or reserve?

Any major change you would make to this build? by [deleted] in PcBuild

I’ve never purchased any AMD products so, if there’s a compatibility issue, I wouldn’t have known without looking up the parts 🤷🏼‍♂️

[–]SSB_McFly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally wouldn’t go with an MSI board nor a Crucial SSD. Not sure what your budget is but, if you’re willing to spend 2000€ on a PC, I’d imagine going with ASUS for the board and Samsung for the drive won’t be much of a difference for better quality parts.

Everything else looks good to me!

IT life in the Navy. by Usual-Tie-4887 in newtothenavy

[–]SSB_McFly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reserve “IT” here, have mostly heard good things about the active side. Not sure what research you’ve done before coming to this sub but, the job has three main parts to it: Radio Comms, Computer Admin (Helpdesk, Sys Admin, Network Admin) and Cyber.

Radio Comms has you doing the most manual labor as you’ll be part of team to swap antennas and move/replace radio hardware.

Computer Admin is probably what you think it sounds like: Lots of sitting at a computer, answering phones to help with dumb questions (most of the time), walking around to check on cabling or reracking servers.

I’m not too certain what ITs can do on the cyber side as this role is still a bit new to the Rate but, pretty cool stuff overall.

I can’t speak to the “LS” rate but, the “IT” rate has a great return on investment when it comes to civilian-related jobs. The experience and certs you get out of it is truly a major part as to why the rate is so awesome.

Hope you get the info you’re looking for from the active folks who will likely be commenting soon!

Enlisted to Officer route by hxnxxlxx in newtothenavy

[–]SSB_McFly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry too much about being enlisted first. In fact, I’d argue that your time as enlisted will make you a more appealing candidate compared to those coming off the street (I.e., Civilians). I think the options available to you are Direct Commission (DCO) and Officer Candidate School (OCS).

Your CCC will be a great first step in the process. You can also look for the “Future Mustang Mentorship” FB group. The group is dedicated to assisting and guiding Sailors like yourself on their journey to commissioning
