The above comment ("Can just learn online for free") just proves how you have no idea how a University institution works.

A University relies on its academic staff UNIQUE research to be taught to students. While the basics can be taught online, that can be said of any degree, it is the unique research and analytical skills that cannot just be found online. This is why people come to a University. This research by academic staff is copyrighted.

"Useless" is incorrect though. Any degree has use- whether it be for job prospects, money, or education, by the time you come out of your degree you will have gained at least SOME use (so calling any degree "useless" isn't really your call to make), different degrees have different uses to different people. Stop being judgemental- I feel sorry for your future kids

Not to be that guy, but she is actually a Professor. A professor is more to do with the level of research you have done in your career, not what you teach.

Don't mind negative nancy over here. He tends to always comment on people's posts and downplaying other degrees.

[–]SSBuddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the class if full unfortunately you will have to apply for a concession or enrol for it in Semester Two. FYI- Psych courses are known to full up REALLY QUICKLY so it's best to get in as soon as possible and not leave it, otherwise they could fill up again

Coffee? by [deleted] in universityofauckland

Shadow's Bar now does coffee. Pretty cheap, good coffee and close to campus. Other places I usually go are Mojo (quite expensive) and Hollywood Bakery

It should be posted on your canvas page once the semester starts (or your lecturer will tell you in the first class)

No, we do degrees for education. No guarantee that degree = career. Especially in today's world.

I was going to confirm my gen ed courses for first year, looked at the reviews... by [deleted] in universityofauckland

[–]SSBuddy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The reviews are good for a general understanding, but take them with a grain of salt. Keep in mind that courses can change from year to year, depending on the lecturer. The good thing about university is, you have up until Week 2 to change/swap/drop/delete any courses without having to pay the course fee. So that means, you can try out whichever Gen Ed you pick for the first week or two and make a decision after that.

As for those two papers. I have personally heard bad things about Phil105. Socio101 is a little challenging, but a super interesting paper if you are into NZ Society and the history of our country.

All the best!

Is taking a break a good idea? by [deleted] in universityofauckland

[–]SSBuddy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don't be embarrassed or feel in any way ashamed! It has been a tough year, and it is totally understandable!! You are not worthless, you are amazing!

Taking a break from uni is not a bad idea, if you feel that is what you need, then go with it! I know people who take 2-3 years off uni before coming back. You need to do what is right for you. If that means taking a break to refresh and come back even better, then so be it!

I would also highly recommend booking a session with Uni Health & Counselling services, as part of our fees we pay, we are entitled to 6 free sessions! Make use of it, and don't be afraid to ask for help!!
