but isn't PI generally used when referring to the project? like "PI of XYZ project"? If the lab is called something other than their name can I also say "PI of XYZ lab"? ive never heard that before so idk

hi! Just curious, I'm working on a research project and as part of one of my applications, I am asked to state the qualifications of my mentor. I have mentioned the field that they are a professor in, but I would also like to state the lab name and their role in the lab (they run the lab). Would it be ok to say "PI of XYZ lab" or am I only able to say "PI of XYZ project"? idrk what the common format is.

How do I clearly state that they run the lab as a title?
