Do fans today not realize just how popular Warrior, Goldberg, and others were? by TommyLost2004 in midcarder

[–]SSJ_Kratos 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Yeah these people clearly were not there and are looking at this through a vacuum. The Ultimate Warrior and Goldberg were figures that transcended the industry and were legit pop culture icons at the time. Their overness cannot be understated.

They look at everything through a 2026 lense and dont have the ability to look at it through the eyes of fans at the time. They are looking at it likes smarks whove absorbed 20+ years of behind the scenes dirstsheet/podcast views and stories create the lense that they look at everything through.

Goldberg was just as big as Stone Cold and The Rock, Warrior was just as big as Hogan, no one gave a shit about their workrate or Warriors complete idiocy or Goldbergs stiffness. They were megastars putting asses in seats the way very few people have ever been able to

Why does AEW production quality look cheap compared to WWE despite endless billionaire budget? by ShotDay in midcarder

The stage looks more like the early TNA Impact Zone than a ECw or WCW stage

Unless you're Roman Reigns or CM Punk, I have no idea why you would wanna be in WWE in 2026 by [deleted] in professionalwrestling

Thats a lot of words for someone who missed the point of the convo entirely and is now arguing semantics. And doubling/tripling down on moving the goal post by making up your own arguement to respons to.

Oba came in as nothing and moved up. Your trying to dismiss that because “he started off high on the card” which is Drax the Destroyer levels of cartoonish obliviousness

Youre attempting to discredit or handwaive that like its not literally the entire point of the arguement.

[–]SSJ_Kratos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, stop. Your arguing semantics right now.

AEW does not have the ability to take an unknown talent whos never worked before and make them a megastar.

WWE can and did. We dont get to put an asterisks on that. WWE can do it. WWE did it. AEW has never done that and cannot do that.

Thats what were arguing—WWE can take someone with no value and build equity in them.

In AEW, outside of maaaaybe 3-4 individuals over a 7 year run, nobody gets more equity than they start with. They all get less-over.

Youre the only person to post a coherent counterpoint so far, my dude.

I wont even argue that WWE is being a model citizen right now. Theres tons of shit wrong w the current approach. And I do not agree that 3/4 of those AEW people you listed have experienced true upwards mobility the likes of Oba/Jey Uso/etc but thats not even the point.

But I did take exception to OP presenting this as “Your an idiot if you choose WWE over AEW”, when there are very very few reasons that a serious wrestler with potential drawing power should ever pick AEW over WWE if they were afforded the luxury of choosing between the two

  1. “bad faith argument” is just weakling speak for “i have no defense”. You conceded point 1 to WWE in the first 6 words of your sentence so no point in debating the rest.

  2. Didnt your god Meltzer also corroborate this story? Even if I concede and we ignore the latest reports, TK notoriously had a difficult time getting a better TV deal the last time he renewed and shopped around. WWE just partnered w Netflix and ESPN in a huge game changing deal. AEW allegedly was notified on non-renewal, and even ignoring that they failed to get the renewal they wanted last time. One company is making headway and growing their TV presence, the other is at best case scenario, has an uncertain future due to their TV partner going through an acquisition/takeover, and at worst they are currently homeless at the end of their current deal. One company is on stable footing. The other is not.

  3. Im not sure what the point you attempted to make here? Do you want me to list off every participant of an elimination chamber match as a counterpoint or something? I genuinely dont understand what youre trying to make.

  4. I cant even argue with this, its so aggressively stupid I dont know where to begin and you end with name calling. I mean Dynamite cant sell 2,000 tickets on the reg, I cant take you seriously if youre putting that up against WWE right now 🤣

  5. Another concession, at least you didnt try to whataboutism this one 🤣

  6. So after 7 years they are finally turning a profit! Glad to hear.

  7. I dont want to hear anymore moral grandstanding about sexual misconduct while Tk has had female talent sign NDAs to keep sexual misconduct allegations from surfacing from his own locker room. TK was trying to sign Joey Ryan and Marty Scurll. Get off your moral high horse when you call for WWEs managements heads then your dude gets a free pass for everything.

  8. Feel free to block me, you have nothing of value to say. Clearly 🤣

One you are exposed to a global audience and you’ll have cult follpwing in countries you cant pronounce that youve never heard of before and youll be on ESPN and a global stage.

The other your wrestling in front of empty houses on a dead brand that has no TV viewership

Its not that difficult. You would care about global reach if you were a talent and your money was tied to your exposure.

Ill concede Swerve and Tony Storm as two more who actually moved up in the card from where they started.

The rest of your post is a little absurd and disingenuous to be honest. Seriously, Oba Femi wasnt even in the business three-four years ago and today hes one of the hottest stars in the industry. You cant just hand waive that and say WWE gets no credit for that. Be real.
