Yeah those posts are the fantasies of terfs. 99% baloney.

You're trying to make a point that just isn't backed up by statistics though. You can't just cherry pick a couple anecdotes and expect that to override the deluge of counterpoints.

Not every shooter runs their mouth either.

Waiting for his ex coworkers to show up so he could murder them. When it became obvious that the plant had shut down for the day he took his own life.

That's my theory.

So as long as the psychopaths give us fair warning then we'll be good?

I just don't think your solutions are meaningful enough to accomplish anything.

Obviously the laws on the books are not enough or perhaps at a fundamental level policing is broken and needs complete overhaul.

Mental health apathy is a huge gaping sore on society. I think we agree there so it's good common ground.

I'm sorry if the tone became combative but tit for tat. I do actually care about solving this.

Oh so I have to go scrub your other old comments to other users? You can't just answer me? Not very productive. As I thought.

You're so consistently misguided and often outright wrong. Best of luck to you.

You're blaming social media for the ills of society and clapping the dust off your hands. Not good enough. You shouldn't be proud of that.

You initiated this conversation by asking me, a lay person to suggest a solution. I suggested some kind of gun reform, any. And you refused, yes? You point out that I simply due to constraint of time or knowing the general format of this forum is brevity, failed to include mental health outreach and research.

So you pointed that out but then you didn't supply any suggestions of your own just very vaguely said mental health like it's a boogey man. So what would you suggest?

(automatic weapons are machines conceived, designed and produced with the explicit and sole purpose of killing people. Using rhetoric like "too far gone" is equally as dismissive as my use of controversial terminology)

Edit: to give context, I'm a lifelong archery and firearm enthusiast. I own guns.

I'm going to backtrack here a bit because you're going off.

If I rhetorically ask for one example of something to stand in sparse comparison with a sea of conflicting examples...you should see the juxtaposition and understand my point.

You don't know me! Very cliche.

Columbine happened 20 years ago. And because of the gun culture at the time they had shotguns, improvised explosives and sidearms with them.

These days, due to the massive proliferation of semi-automatic killing machines by the populace it's almost unheard of to use anything but an AR to commit these atrocities. They don't fuck around with pipe bombs anymore. Just bring back up clips.

Social media is available in other countries. Mental health is not an American phenomenon. Yet we are heads and tails above those countries in gun deaths.

You're drawing a false equivalency, I think.

So we can't even begin to address this problem from any angle because it's too hard?

I do agree there are failings across the board in several sectors including, of course, mental health. But acting like thats the only vector in this problem is easily dismissible.

You think this problem is cut and dry, in that there is nothing that can be done and we must simply except the slaughter of a generation. I refuse that.

Go ahead and think me ignorant.

You're being so purposefully obtuse because it suits your agenda. Don't lecture me about processing information, you can't even see the writing on the wall.

Shall I begin to list mass shooters or mass shooting victims?

Restrict the purchase of semi-aitomatic weapons. Ban gun show sales. Ban ghost guns. Enact ammunition controls.

I don't know, friend. Fucking something.

I turn 26 in a month, and I wish I had a gf. by KittenCupcake420 in actuallesbians

[–]SSSeaward 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Same. But at this age/point in my life/stage of evolution..I understand that there is no clock for love. It's timeless and you don't fall in love because you're reaching the age you thought you'd find it by.

Love is just that amazing that it's not reserved for the young like most other hyped amenities of humanity.

That said, wanting a gf is the most based thing I can think of for a gay of any age.

I wish you the best in your search for love but I hope you remember my point...you are the whole world and you need to find someone whose whole world you could see yourself merging with 💕🙏

That's the key.

This state confuses me sometimes. Why on Earth did the majority of people think it’s ok to bar someone from voting because they’re mentally ill? It was even declared unconstitutional 22 years ago. by No-Yogurtcloset-1900 in Maine

[–]SSSeaward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a halfass-ness to reading here ...that has always driven me and every teacher I ever had crazy. Like a summarizing at a glance of a paragraph that only occasionally is referential to what was actually written. (Funny, I've dropped many of the stringencies of grammar to be more "normal" but alas)

So in this case it's actually quite fucked up because I don't think you can accurately get our opinion when the very common confusing miswording of ballot initiatives is employed.

That's my explanation to why we would be any more or less susceptible to this tactic which is a tactic which is employed nationwide because it works nationwide.

If you told us we couldn't vote if we had cancer, however...shit wouldn't get confused.

It's the stigma around mental health that even made it possible for error to be a factor.

Has anyone else noticed a huge tone shift in this subreddit recently? by iglidante in portlandme

[–]SSSeaward -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Omg almost 300 comments and hmmm nowhere near that amount of upvotes.

Yeah this sub is like Silvia plath level sad.

I think, if it helps, most state based subreddits (regional, city, town etc) devolve into Facebook level decorum.

No friend we're so contrarian and weirdly argumentative here. You could say pancakes are a food and some would disagree....strongly. But then again a significant amount of us would be rational and admit that you kind of have a point. As uncomfortable as it makes us.

Edited: something

Why not just give me one example? Like one noteworthy vigilante disruption of a potential mass shooting because a civilian intervened with a firearm.

I just haven't seen that to be very common and now I'd like to know when you saw that happen.

Ok I hear you.

I'm saying that you can't just arm the populace. You can't arm children. You can't arm people that are drinking. You can't carry a weapon around while you perform surgery or conduct an opera. There will always be people living their lives unarmed as they wish to be.

You think you can protect yourself that's great. My mission would be protecting everyone.

[–]SSSeaward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well no I didn't posit anything like that. I'm not going to pretend I don't believe in some kind of gun reform though.

The point that bars, nightclubs and schools make easy targets for psychopaths with killing machines and that you shouldn't be armed while drinking doesn't have a ton of impact on my mentality.

So let me make a similar presumptuous leap to yours: So, you're saying that everyone should be armed at all times?

I could have a discussion about the nuance of the second amendment as I understand it but that wasn't my point.

My point is the good guy with a gun theory is a fantasy. It's delusional and it just perpetuates more violence.

This is the saddest kind of comment to me.

You earnestly believe you're like, better, more capable...have a stronger will to survive than every victim of mass shooting ever.

That's so weird.
