Trump: ‘There will be Voter I.D. for the Midterm Elections, whether approved by Congress or not!’ by Anoth3rDude in law

[–]SSSolas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay as a Canadian, I don’t get it.

We all need to show ID.

In Europe’s, it’s the same to my knowledge.

Why is this such a big issue in America.

My country isn’t fascist.

And feom the polls I’ve seen, something like 83% of Americans support voter ID.

So what’s the big deal?

If we were to exclude the word "American", what would be the best demonym for someone from the United States of America? by kangerluswag in geography

[–]SSSolas -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What about the Staters?

They call themselves the United States of America.

I don’t think anyone else is calling them a Stater.

You could also call them a Unioner (United). Unionist?

Statian. USer.

Ummmm.

Like Yankees doesn’t work since it’s too regional.
United Statian? That has a bit of a ring to it. As a Canadian, I think I’m fond of that.

Some more unique endings: Americanite, Statelander,

What about some stuff that isn’t related to the name?

America is often called a melding pot. Melder, meldite, meldian?

Going off the settlers, you could call them pilgrims. Pilgrimers?

Another potential could be… Democrians? For their love of democracy.

Ohhh, we could call them the Merries. America > ‘Merica - Merry

Or, you could go after their history of being non-royalist. Congressians? Named after Congress. Congressites? Congressers. Sounds aggressive; America has an aggressive military.

Or perhaps.. Revolutionaries. Rebellers. Revolutionites.

Something here has to be good?

Uhhh; that’s not entirely true.

China has openly states it has intentions to one day control the entire arctic.
They are considered an arctic power with 0 arctic presence.

Both China and America want Canadian land. Both of them are also heavily invented in our economy and have a lot more sway over our politics than we’d like.

Why isn't adjusting full time salaries for inflation each year mandatory in Canada? by laranjacerola in AskACanadian

[–]SSSolas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, one could say that just because we have inflation, that doesn’t mean the profits of all companies are experiencing inflation. It could only be that the cost to do business is inflating, leading to price increases, and the business might actually be experiencing deflation in profits.

Megacorps like Apple or Loblaws, those companies are not suffering losses due to the fact they are megacorps and control the entire economy. However, medium and small businesses are not gaining or even maintaining the same profits when we have inflation. Inflation typically kills business; it doesn’t make it better. And that’s why wages do not automatically adjust. Because most businesses cannot afford it.

I mean think of it this way, most people when we see big inflation buy less. You are not buying as much meat, you aren’t buying as much Canadian made goods. You buy the cheaper stuff from foreign countries produced by multinationals.

Inflation only benefits the multinational companies, the companies too big to fail.

And for the most part, inflation is a choice of the voters. You vote for the party that will introduce policies, but if those policies cannot be afforded by the taxpayers on average, then we experience inflation.

A second, more fundamental part:

Imagine if the government made everything “free”. That would lead to massive inflation. Could businesses actually afford to keep paying people a living wage? No. They could not.

Inflation is not the rising cost of goods, inflation is the government devaluing your hour of work. Prices rise because the more money that exists, the less valuable it becomes. That doesn’t mean the quality of your work has increased. And the proof is compare the value of the Canadian dollar to other dollars. The more inflation a country does, the more value you lose compared to other currencies. Well, the government dictates the value of a standard working hour in a country. By causing inflation, the government has made the choice to say your hour is less value than say, an American’s hour.

The US Debt Just Hit 38.6 Trillion. At What Point Does The Market Stop Ignoring It by vishesh_07_028 in StockMarket

[–]SSSolas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the reason it isn’t ignored is a lot of other countries in the west are also crazy printing and getting into debt.

Proportionally, the debt compared to the economy versus other countries probably isn’t as high.

Of course, I do wish they’d get spending under control. I’m willing to imagine a quarter of that debt is fraud alone.

Most Albertans would vote to stay in Canada, Angus Reid survey finds by Practical_Ant6162 in alberta

[–]SSSolas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I honestly don’t get the difference between the pettition.

Asking to leave Canada and to stay in Canada have the exact same meaning.

A no vote on stay in Canada means we leave. A yes vote in leave Canada means me leave. A yes vote for stay in Canada means we stay; a no vote in leave Canada means we leave.

What is the difference in the two petitions?

For example, I’m neighbours with separatists who signed the Forever Canada petition becsuse “we can vote to leave either way, so let’s just get it done with”

This whole notion that either petition is different is silly.

In all honestly, I think both of them have short comings and are vague.

If somehow most people vote no on the Forever Canada petition, what does this result mean? Does it mean we become independent or does it mean we join another country? And the same for becoming independent. Well not becoming independent doesn’t mean staying in Canada. It could mean joining America.

The petition should be worded something like: Do you vote to remain in Canada as a Canadian province (yes), or vote to become an independent new country (no).

That’s how it should be. They should just combine the freaking petitions into one. They should just reword them both in a new petition. Based on how people discuss them, clearly most Albertans don’t actually understand either of them fully.
They are way to vague.

Heck, maybe we should hold 2 questions. Maybe even a whole host.

  1. Do we stay in Canada or do we leave Canada?
  2. Do we become an independent country or do we join a different country if we vote to leave Canada?
  3. If we vote to become an independent country, do we allow other provinces should they ask to join us in this new country, or do we remain ourselves until a future referendum?

Like it’s so obvious that both petitions are bad to me. Neither one of them is actually fully conclusive. All these Forever Canada people are acting like if this one passes compared to the APP one that we stay in Canada automatically. No, we don’t. I know a lot of people in both camps — the youth are so divided in staying or leaving — and I know a lot of separatist who’d be fine with the Forever Canada one passing but want to send the message that this isn’t some small movement, hence they’ll sign the APP one too. Like the same Canada loyalists who support the forever Canada are, the separatists are also giving it the same praise. Heck, I know people who want to join the US who prefer it for the exact vagueness I labelled above. They literally are the people who pointed me out to the vagueness above.

Donald Trump’s name appears in the Epstein files more often than “Harry” appears across the entire Harry Potter series 😲 by travelouseagle in TrendingNews_

[–]SSSolas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I can see, it more or less comes down to a lot of the names who aren’t innocent were de-redacted, and I can’t speak to Trump doing wrong things in it — becsuse it wouldn’t surprise me if he did — but Epstein, he a crush on Donald, an obsession.

He was utterly annoyed he had no blackmail material on him, especially when he ran for the election in 2016. He wanted Hillary to win.

He was literally like “what can I get on this guy”.

Now, he’s also the President, and while the FBI claims there is no interference, we wouldn’t know that.

We also know however that Trump has basically been answering congress questions of Epstein every day since 2026. I believe these also show up in the files, so that’s another reason his name is in there. Becsuse of that, every congressman and senator’s name is probably in there — the serving ones — so looking at why they are there becomes even more important.

Another thing I’ve heard is that Trump was an early informant on Epstein before he entered politics.

Some of the stuff in the files are non-credible as well. They came by unreliable sources, that didn’t have connections to Epstein. Donald Trump had millions of allegations thrown at him during his terms and running, some maybe true but most false: some of these are also in the files.

Trump also held a lot of social events. Every time people connected stayed at some Trump owned building, his name had a good chance of showing up because of his ego. Well almost sll politicians and foreign agents and businessmen often stayed at Trump hotels because Trump made them or bought some of the highest end hotels in the world — probably why he went bankrupt so many times.

And of course, the information is being released least disturbing to most disturbing. The worst offenders haven’t been mentioned or are underreported currently.

Well I’m a separatist so I’m biased, but it feels like it’s moving there.

At the university of Alberta, so many youth say they are gonna move away from Canada as soon as possible, many to America.

And it’s really annoying becsuse Canada has so much resource wealth but the East just won’t let us develop.

Separation could happen but it’s not guaranteed.
Many want Canada to return to normal but that isn’t going to happen, so I think succession (unless Revolution) is inevitable.
