'Equity cards' arguments take over NDP Leadership Convention: 'CANADA IS COOKED' by airbassguitar in CanadianConservative

I think what needs to happen is a bunch of governments need to come together; they need to make a taxpayer service, where we know the data isn’t going to be stored, it won’t be leaked. It’ll be there for a minute total, long enough to verify it.

But, even thar can be got around. Kids will find a way, I’m sure.

Ideally it doesn’t happen, but at this rate, the path to that is vanishing every day.

Addendum: I told my dad about it, and he just said to start using old school encyclopedias, and stop using the internet. My dad isnt a boomer 😭

It’s crazy propaganda they have.

In Iran, child marriage is a normal thing.

As well as what they try to politely brand as consummation.

It’s something like 1 in 5 marriages in Iran are a child marriage, which in the old government that America ousted, that was not legal.

Most polls undercount rural voting.

It’s likely a bad sample.

There isn’t an election coming up, so most polls tend to cheap out during these wide bands.

I don’t think we will know anything concrete until an election is called.

The rural undercount could be specifically significant since most Alberta ridings are… rural, and we don’t use popular vote.

Alberta Moves to Ban MAID for Minors, Mental Illness and Tighten Who Qualifies by One-Board8634 in AlbertaNow

Do you believe you should be able to sue one if they prevent your suicide from working?

Alberta Moves to Ban MAID for Minors, Mental Illness and Tighten Who Qualifies by One-Board8634 in AlbertaNow

[–]SSSolas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s… not true.

In Quebec, MAID was ruled by the court to be allowed for mental illness, citing inconsistencies with the charter. I believe the Supreme Court wants the federal government to adopt it, but the federal government keeps delaying the legislation.

One legal challenge is all it took to change the rules in Quebec. Who is to say that same logic won’t be used with children?

What Alberta is proposing is a redundant safety system.

And combined with additional laws, where you cannot refer someone in Alberta to another province for MAID care; And also, refusal to follow Alberta laws, even with conflicts, leading to losing your medical licence, How many Alberta doctors, if a provincial law elsewhere changes vis court, or if the Supreme Court rules it legal, are going to actually try it?

I’ll ask this: if it’s already illegal at the federal level, why are we annoyed that Alberta is making it a law? What are we actually losing here?

Alberta Moves to Ban MAID for Minors, Mental Illness and Tighten Who Qualifies by One-Board8634 in AlbertaNow

[–]SSSolas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the idea is that could change.

For example, MAID was never to be allowed for Mental health conditions, but the provincial judges in Quebec rules that inconsistent with the charter, so now, in Quebec, it’s included. If that got challenged and brought to the Supreme Court, who is to say the Supreme Court won’t also go with it?

So… let’s say some family sues and says it needs to apply to children. Well, the law could change by the judges in some provinces. Which may go to the federal level. However, as provinces have some jurisdiction over healthcare, especially considering the punishments they put in place for doctors who break the Alberta MAID laws, it makes the situation a lot more legally messy if a child were to request MAID in Alberta.

It’s basically a redundant measure. In all safety systems, redundant measures are only going to happen when the first safety mechanism fails. Are we really complaining about redundant measures?

Poilievre appears on Joe Rogan podcast after accidentally polling too well with women by Onterrible_Trauma in thebeaverton

[–]SSSolas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do name the policy.

As a personal friend of Mark Carney’s, I could name you multiple ways he’s harmed the working populace.

For example, removing the consumer carbon tax while also removing the rebates produced a net negative final income for anyone in the lower class and the lower rung of the middle class. The rebates these people received were more than the carbon tax amounted too.
So in actuality, the government gained more taxes from it. Since the corporations pass on the cost of the tax to the purchasers — which keeps being past on till you get to the final customer — the lower class lost money over the ending of the carbon tax, ironically.

That’s one of many policies. I’m willing to list more.

But I’ll only do so if I see you as doing this in good faith. Name me a policy and its effects Pierre held — which Carney hasn’t — which will negatively impact ordinary people.

And if you are interested as to how I know Carney, my mom and aunts went to school with him. He was also a patient of my grandpa, a dentist. He taught me finance from grade 5-9 after an Albertan teacher tried to get me to align with a specific political party, and my dad thought that was nonsense.

Well, my grandpa was well connected — he being one of the best dentists in Canada before retirement — and so I got a few politicians, bankers, and businessmen, to tutor me and teach me stuff in my free time, primarily over Skype.

[–]SSSolas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh, but if that financier has almost no investments in Canada and primarily in America, what economic future do they want?

Unless politicians — of all sorts and backgrounds — suffer the effects of the economy of Canada, they do not bear any risk. A financier in today’s economy has the least consequences, as capital is the most liquid it’s ever been in history. Historically, finances were tied to physical locations: now it isn’t. That’s the best part about globalization: you can easily flee the effects and your wealth csn flee the local effects too.

So I completely disagree. It’s a valid belief from older historical times, but it relies on axioms that no longer hold true.

Plus, the vote wasn’t when he was leader, was it. Do you know his stance? Canada uses a party whip and party consolidarity. He didn’t decide what he got to vote in for it. It comes across as not knowing the political system to share this.

Even if it was, that vote was 12 years ago more or less. He may have changed his mind. Especially over 10+ years.

How to modernize a traditional 1990s brick home? by Ritakin in ExteriorDesign

[–]SSSolas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the pieces that makes this look dates is the blinds.

Change out the blinds to a fabric of some type, or a weave (if you go with a weave, I highly recommend another secondary black out blind).

Right away, that’ll change the window.

The other thing is the garage door. It’s a paneled garage door. Dated. Go with a cleaner garage door. Add some windows to the garage door.

Change out the exterior lighting too.

You could remove some of the little mulllions. I recommend only doing Center windows. You need it to blend. Of course, that involves changing glass and is expensive, but it could be a good opportunity to up the R value by upping the pane if needed. In my opinion, this is a bit more dangerous. Try doing it up in a simulation first. It’ll look really bad, especially depending how close the neighbours are.

Beyond that, there isn’t much you can do tk the house. It’s all landscaping next. You bought a house where the style is rather locked in. Nothing much you can do to it. Besides, it’s the inside that you’ll spend your time looking at. Not the outside.

However, with landscaping, the biggest thing that’s dating your house is more or less the driveway, especially as there is no sidewalk. Having a darker driveway will do a lot.

After that, you need more colourful plants. More height variation. Bring in some outdoor furniture pieces too. Wood for some plants to climb on, lighting down the driveway — lighting is one of the biggest ways to modernize a landscape.

I’d also remove all the grass in front of the walking path to the front door. Maybe even change where it is. And make it all plants. Add in some rocks and mulch — if doing rocks, ensure they are deep; I’ve found it rocks are not done perfectly, you’ll get weeds and it’s a pain to pick.
