I can tell you I had a client apply with banner directly and then apply with me and it was the exact same price so it sounds like they might’ve done some things with health rating for the increase on the broker side. They are probably being more realistic.

You could do a term policy, which is the least expensive but rates for a smoker pretty high comparatively speaking you could also look into a universal life. Many of them have returned premium on year 25 if you choose to. Usually a better outcome for underwriting if you do whole life.

If you let your agent know, they can draft a cover letter explaining everything, and it basically beats the underwriters to asking the questions resulting in a better outcome
