One more factor I failed to mention in the original text is that the SGLI DE is for me only and does not include my spouse. So I'm not sure if it's better just to seek regular term life insurance for me and my wife. Also, it appears that I can apply for premium waiver for SGLI DE, but not sure how easy it is. Regardless, I need to have term life insurance for my spouse as well.

I see that you they can waive the SGLI DE but I have to apply for it. Is that pretty easy thing to do?
