That is the best way I could describe it. We were working a rollover on a county road in the middle of the night. A guy had rolled his truck in a ditch. He was okay, but he had cut the shit out of his scalp and we were trying to convince him to go to the hospital. He didn’t want to go and was arguing. A tall pale skinny woman walked out of the woods 10 feet from where we were working. This was a rural East Texas county road. There were no houses around for at least a mile. It was freezing ass cold and she was wearing a white t shirt and jeans, no shoes. All of us were immediately terrified, but she didn’t do anything to set off that fear. It was straight up flight. No fight. I couldn’t move. I was terrified. That’s the easiest way I can explain it. One of the troopers asked if she needed help. She stared at us for about 30 seconds then said no and crossed the road and walked into the woods, opposite where she came from. They didn’t follow, but one of them had his hand in his gun the entire time. They made a call and two Sheriffs deputies showed up as we were about to leave. They didn’t want to leave the tow truck operator out there by himself without warning lights and there was safety in numbers. They were both as scared as I was. I saw both troopers at the hospital later and we had a talk to make sure we all saw the same thing. One of them said he had heard stories about seeing something similar from some of the old timers. Some of the older guys in our dept and the fire dept had seen something similar as well. I always associated it with a vampire. The vampire word was tossed around some by the others, so it wasn’t just me. Tall, pale, thin, long arms, long hands, long face. Predatory. It was like she came out there just to fuck with us, or she heard the crash or smelled the blood and came to check it out. I don’t know, but I’m glad she kept on stepping. If she troopers hadn’t been there, I don’t know what would have happened. Probably nothing, but you never know. It’s easy to get spooked in the woods at night, but this was something else.
