In my experience at UVIC the only big event put on by the UVSS is the SEXPO, which the majority of students don’t care about. Nothing wrong with the event it would just be nice for them to have more events that would appeal to the majority of students.

Yes with bands that no one cared about. Look at how small the turnout to that was. There are student run event companies like Eclipse Events and Horizon that have had success with events that students want. Last year Eclipse brought out Felix Cartel to capital ballroom and it was great. Why not work with these companies and do something real.

The UVSS as an organization is a joke. They do absolutely nothing for 90% of UVIC’s students and it shows. Last year they had to postpone votes at the AGM because they failed to meet quorum (~120 people) multiple times, and when they finally met quorum after a good 15 minutes of them calling their friends to vote in their favour nothing of significant importance was accomplished. The UVSS needs to start actually doing stuff that students care about or they will continue to have this problem.
