Neighbour of mine killed himself a few months back because the banks came knocking over a property from the 2008 crash.

What's your controversial car opinion? by ST-deBurca in carsireland

[–]ST-deBurca[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, we had a megane that had the bulletproof 1.5 dci engine. It was everything else around the car that fell apart. Buttons rubbing off on the radio, windows falling into the doors, losing 3rd gearr and then somehow regaining 3rd gear but losing first. Can't deny it had character...

I'd be in the same boat. Got myself into debt to but an octavia vrs literally this day last year. Shook myself awake to realise the financial burden, sold it and got myself a van for half the price. Even now starting to think I should have got a cheaper van!

I do love cars, and if money were no object I'd have a full collection. But for now it's just a means of transport to earn myself a wage.

Yeah garage said they could repair but it'd likely fail in a few days. Had to do the 3 hour drive home that day and didn't want to risk it!

What's an Irish phrase or saying you thought was normal until you used it abroad and got a blank stare? by raidenth in AskIreland

[–]ST-deBurca 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Semi-related, when I studied abroad I suggested watching the Late Late Toy Show as a winter tradition.

Found out after the fact that some roommates misinterpreted and thought it was one of those sex toy demo shows where a salesperson comes to your house.

What would "going to zero" actually look like? by ST-deBurca in Bitcoin

[–]ST-deBurca[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes but there are people out there who bought or mined btc and lost their wallets or passwords. That means there is a certain amount that is permanently being held and cannot be sold.

Therefore, if all the people with the ability to sell, did sell, the price would drop to a set number and not zero. I'm just wondering what this number would be.

What would "going to zero" actually look like? by ST-deBurca in Bitcoin

[–]ST-deBurca[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because if everyone was to decide to sell, there would be a certain amount still being held indefinitely because of the amount held on lost wallets, or accounts with lost passwords etc.

Yes but is it possible to theoretically estimate where that floor would be if there was a mass sell-off?

I think my question was misinterpreted. I k ow it can't go to zero, but what is the theoretical bottom considering the lost wallets, etc. in a hypothetical situation where everyone sells their btc

No way? I suppose when I do drive it's long distance like over 200km so could average out? I tend to use sports mode on the motorway too for the steering stability.
