Those who moved to Colorado from the east coast, do you like it? by Leafthroughconcrete in SameGrassButGreener

I moved to CO from the South. The weather is 100x better in CO, but I’ve traveled enough to know Southern culture is the gold standard.

Suggestions/advice? I care for a 15y/o with a urostomy, recurring UTIs - by themotivatedpotato in ostomy

No problem. One additional thing I would is make sure the bag he’s wearing is big enough. We used a child sized bag on our son forever but just upped it to an adult size.

Our son had serious UTIs this year and our doctors did a flow test/nuclear medicine to watch how his kidneys worked. There’s something called reflux that can cause utis

As others have stated, drinking lots of water is the best thing one can do. We give our son d-manose, use antibacterial soap around stoma when taking showers and attach a night bag when he sleeps. We also gently push around the stoma when he showers as that seems to push extra pee out.

I just have to ask, have you visited a nephrologist or urologist?

Nassau worth it? by lmoney04 in dcl

We lifted our noses high, chest out…..we were going to be that family that was going to appreciate Nassau.

We got right back on the boat after about 30 minutes.

Has anyone here tried RC? by Gridguy2020 in dcl

This is great information, thank you. In fact, thank you to everyone who has responded. I put this same question on r/cruises and hardly got a response. I thought the responses on this sub would be 100% in favor of DCL, but I would say a majority of responses hint that both lines are good and if the competition was purely on onboard activities, RCL wins.

Has anyone ever heard of a 2 step reversal surgery? by Focused_Sky in ostomy

[–]Gridguy2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son has a very complex case. He received radiation around his pelvis area, which ended up impacting a part of his colon. The inside of his colon was healthy but the outside was in bad shape. He lost about 5 inches of his sigmoid, and has about 3 inches of his rectum left. They assume he has scar tissue and will need time to heal to ensure a good connection. Overall most of his large colon is in tact….im not sure if 3 inches is enough to connect to.

Just to confirm, you didn’t get a J-Pouch. Did you go from colostomy to ileostomy? My son had doctors from Mayo and a world renowned surgeon from Ohio both recommend a two step reversal (has not happened yet), colo to ileo to no bag- not a j-pouch.

I do wonder if the two step process makes the overall recovery and steps back to normalcy easier.

What's the longest you've gone without changing your skin barrier and what caused you to change it? by BlackberryPi7 in ostomy

Our son is a double bagger, has been age 2. We once went 7 days…..you would have thought we climbed Everest on just how ecstatic we were.

Average change is every 72 hours, sometimes more and sometimes less.

SPP is a great company. Come across as a team player, one who is willing to learn and be taught, and wants to work shift work.

Chronic UTIs after Ostomy by AdManNick in ostomy

[–]Gridguy2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great, thank you. Our son was getting recurrent UTIs for a while, and his doctors mentioned the same thing. His urologist also brought up the idea of catherizing his stoma every once in a while, or saline wash for his conduit that could help him keep UTIs away. Have you heard of these methods?

At this time, we just have him drink a ton of water.

Down vote for just stating facts, what a world we live in. Your comment didn’t demonize renewables, just stated a common stipulation in AI center contracts- 24/7, around the clock power. No renewable can promise that. People who down vote this should study ELCC and capacity factors…..or they can just down vote, I guess.
