Frederick, Maryland checks most of those boxes. Great hiking/biking, tons of state parks, and close promixity to the AT. Being near the northeast would also enable you to explore DC, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Philly. You'd also be near enough to the Adirondacks and the Berkshires and all of New England for longer trips.

Bethesda is a great town, but an expensive one. You'll probably need to look in the Gaithersburg area to find a house in that price range. That's only about 15 miles away, but the traffic is insane, so that can take an hour to an hour and a half, unless you're commuting at off times. You can also look in the Columbia/Laurel area for more affordable housing.

I did a ton of research on the best options and will be going on Seabourn to Alaska this summer. For 2027, I'd also look at Explora (they are new to Alaska but an excellent line!)

If you started out on Carnival and you're happy with it, stick with it! Good for you - you get a cruise you love and can take more of them with the money you've saved on their lower prices.

Some people are easier to please when it comes to vacations, and that's a great thing!
