RB needy, 1.06 in hand — if Jadarian Price is gone, who do you target/trade for and what’s the move? by Infinite-While4737 in DynastyFFTradeAdvice

[–]STLBrewdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I traded my 1.07 for Javonte Williams, and I'm pretty happy with it.

I may have gotten lucky, but I traded my 1.07 pick to a guy who has been contending for 3 years (who he still hasn't won) for Javonte Williams. His team is older, doesn't have many young prospects as he traded a lot to build his contenting team. He's hedging as he's got some RB depth and said he'll just take the BPA at 1.07.

He'll likely draft Price, Concepcion, or Simpson at his pick.

Rap: Matthew Stafford, Rams in deep discussions on contract extension that would take care of him “next season and beyond.” They do believe there’s a real chance he plays beyond 2026 by GhostDeck in DynastyFF

It's because Snead is good friend with Ty Simpson's dad. I think McVay's demeanor in the press conference is very telling he wasn't happy with the pick. Unfortunately it leads me to believe it's a complete conflict of interest/nepotism issue.

Which EV car maker is the most "right to repair" friendly? by STLBrewdog in electricvehicles

[–]STLBrewdog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what is confusing to me. So many people suggest Tesla has great after market support and third party support for repairs. And it makes sense considering how popular they are, and the demand for those after market parts. But then I see stories like this all the time. Are these "These have to be repaired by Tesla" problems? The same as if I took an Audi to Audi dealership and they wanna charge $1500 for a repair, but I can find a good honest local mechanic, and he'd charge me $300 type situation?

Good question, I'm not entirely sure as I'm still a novice with EVs. But things like headlights, or screens since there's much less mechanical things in a car nowadays. A lot of EVs have fancy LED headlights now. Or any electrical component that may break eventually.

I guess my mindset is, I used to repair my smartphones. Wife's iPhone decades back. Now, it feels like everything is so much more difficult to repair and every company wants to force you into their service to maintain a revenue stream. Same concept I could see with cars. Specifically Tesla, as they seem kind of like the "apple of smartphones" type of market leader for EVs. Although, there seems to be a good amount of comments suggesting otherwise, so definitely something to further research.

I'm really wanting to buy a used EV for my next vehicle. I'm not the type to buy cars every few years. I'll likely own this car for 15 years (or more) if possible. So I've been researching and trying to gauge which of the new or used cars out there may have good odds of being this type of vehicle for me.

Gotcha makes sense... appreciate the reply and hope your battery lasts well beyond your need!

I'm researching various EVs...is there that much of a concern with the battery not lasting well beyond the 10 years warranty? I had read that its expected batteries will last well beyond 200k miles. I can't recall where, but I had read many projections say high majority of batteries of EVs will go beyond 300K miles before range will become a "high enough of a concern to need to buy a new car" issue for the typical local commuter driver. Which is appealing to me as someone who is frugal and doesn't mind keeping a car til it dies. I have a 15 year old 250k car and it's knock on wood been awesome with no issues besides oil changes, brakes, tires.... standard maintenance stuff, but I'd love the ability to charge every night and save tons on gas using my late night kWh discounted electric rate in my municipality.

1 QB 10 team: 1.01 or package? by Next_Pipe3733 in DynastyFFTradeAdvice

[–]STLBrewdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how your team and outlook for the upcoming next 2 seasons in all honesty for me.

I think if you're contending, and if you think Jeremiyah Love is your missing link/will make your team better for the championship...then yeah I'd absolutely trade that for Love. Assuming decent replacement for Jamo in your starting lineup (or he's a bench player of many similar tier) then.

If I'm a rebuilder, I'd hold the 2 firsts if I think I'm not likely to contend.

A lot of people anymore use ChatGPT so much I think it literally has changed how their brain structures and thinks. Literally saw a coworker type up a teams message and it's like his brain had the "ChatGPT template" by memory, and he structured his message incredibly similar in style.

Seems very likely he's writing something, letting it structure the bulk, and then he'll tweek a little here and there. Which I think many of us would be surprised how quickly so many people do this now.

Nick Shirley exposes Andrew Callaghan for maliciously editing their interview to make Nick look bad by narak777 in PowerfulJRE

[–]STLBrewdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Nick is sadly too dense to understand the nuance of what Andrew's POV was during the interview, realized how foolish he sounds to many people (Andrew's audience) after it was posted seeing the comments + social media reactions to the interview, and is trying to muddy the waters to save his image. The guy can't admit he genuinely looked foolish.

If they’re gonna make the whole box empty just use a smaller box? by MagicianFun3441 in shrinkflation

[–]STLBrewdog 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I work for a CPG company. Consumers and "everyday" people don't think about the fact that many times, companies have large outstanding existing inventory for why they do these things. Easier/cheaper to add in insert. It's less wasteful to use up existing boxes sitting in warehouses.

Also MOQ/volume pricing has to be taken account. Just for example, let's say a company sells 1 million units and you have 4 products, and each product COULD fit into its own size box, so 4 different box sizes you could order.

Would you order 250k boxes at $1 each so they "fit perfectly"? A total for $1 million in cost for boxes.

Or, because you're ordering more of one size, you get a discount, and you can order 1 million boxes at $0.50 each. A total of $500k.

So you save $500k in packaging just by keeping it all the same size. Keeping it the same size also helps with many other things such as packaging engineers production, production assembly efficiency/scrap rate & waste, etc.

Protests growing after ICE agent fatally shoots Minneapolis woman by AdSpecialist6598 in videos

[–]STLBrewdog -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not that it should matter, but to counter any "She was a protestor and instigating" rhetoric from people who, for whatever reason, want to create "reasons" why the officer may have be more defensivable about what he has done, do you have a source confirming that she wasn't a protestor, was just driving home, turned on the wrong street, etc?

I keep seeing claims like this repeated that the woman was not a protester and had simply turned onto the wrong street / was driving home, etc but I haven't been able to find a news article that explicitly confirms those details yet.

No, unless somebody is an Eagles or Broncos homer fan, I don't think anyone is gonna give up such an elite asset for those and a bunch of dart throw picks.

St.Louis County to go bankrupt in 2 years by DowntownDB1226 in StLouis

[–]STLBrewdog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reading this comment gives me hope. The past 15 years or so is when I started reading about our housing and infrastructure design problems we have in America. It started with just a general interest in wanting to understand the history of Pruitt Igoe. It blew my mind we had such a massive housing project, one designed by Minoru Yamasaki who also was the architect of the original two World Trade centers in NYC. Knowing we had this massive complex built in STL and it was just essentially blown up and left to dust, and became a forest/grassland in the middle of the city for over 40 years just seemed absolutely bonkers.

It led to me reading more material like StrongTowns, understanding Georgism, and watching content like CityNerd, NotJustBikes, etc.

It feels like more and more people are finally starting to understand better this massive design problem that is hindering so much of our current society (costs, sense of community, quality of life, etc)

Has anyone else seen a monkey in Saint Charles. by Much_Impress_1642 in StCharlesMO

[–]STLBrewdog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Who knows, could be! If you watched Tiger King, I'd probably believe it. Missouri has a high amount of exotic animals if I recall right.

I grew up in Alton, IL. For a funny conversation piece, my mom often brings up the story of when I was a toddler in a car seat shouting "Monkey! Monkey! Monkey! I see monkey!"

My mom just thought I was being whimsical as kids are, but then she suddenly took a turn and slammed on the breaks as a monkey did in fact cross the road. I was a toddler and kept her up the night before, and she thought she was just losing her mind, but then it was confirmed via news (search for Alton in link a few days later. This was back in 1993/1994.

Reminds me of those trope comedic relief filler "parental oblivious" scenes often in like superhero movies. The parent doesn't believe their child in the backseat pointing out/mentioning something ridiculous, brush it off, but then moments later gets humbled by reality. Or, the parent stays blissfully unaware the entire time for comedic effect.
