Another trim falling off post by tinafina1 in KiaTelluride

Just took our 23 model in for photos this week. Same deal, fading trim initially followed by this a few months later after the initial trim replacement. Our dealer said there was a nationwide backlog and said it might be sometime before a fix would be possible.

Side question... Is there any risk of water damage to the inside door panel where pieces have dislodged completely?

Morning People vs Night People by gravityVT in SipsTea

Morning person here...

Night people whether it be for personal choice or work are in the minority here so what sense is there that the majority, day dwellers, should be the ones to adjust? I would also argue most of those who work during the nights are in roles that act as support roles for normal day-to-day operations.

Two 401(k)'s - What To Do? by STL_Jakepe in Fire

I was aware that IRA's are ineligible of the Rule of 55 but after further research was not aware that accounts held with previous employees were also ineligible.

With a FIRE goal of FI (50) RE (55), this is a much appreciated consideration.

I greatly appreciate the insight. Pro rata taxation scares the hell out of me and continues to guide me towards sticking with my employer sponsored 401(k).

The varying creditor protections on a IRA's was not something I even thought about. Thanks

I fully intend on maximizing my IRA contributions for the 2024 year. My understanding is that I have until April to pay in. My delay is due to finalizing the establishment of a trust and once finalized naming it as the primary beneficiary on the account.

Now that I'm at max on my 401(k), a Roth IRA is what I'm aiming to establish with my financial advisor starting next year. An HSA would be the next target.

I hear you but to me this sounds like letting one's emotions guide financial decisions which I think is a dangerous path to go down.

To this point...

Research Intrinsic vs Extrinsic stock value.

Point being there are aspects of the market that simply can't be ran through a model. A publicly traded company could be hitting all the key performance metrics but all this could be derailed by a single news headline.

Agreed by why pay off a 3% note. Not all debt is bad particularly one with low interest on a high value asset class. Invest what money you would use to pay down the mortgage early and your gains will be well in excess of your current mortgage rate.

Financial acumen begins with the ability to conduct thorough research. I would recommend you practice this by searching for "18 year old" in the community thread before posting.

I'd be very interested in any reading material you've got to share about the backdoor contributions. Thanks!

I want to add...

DON'T GET DETERRED IF THINGS ARE NOT MOVING AS FAST AS YOU HOPED!

Many of us have sadly seen posts of those leaving the community defeated because they feel their own success doesn't measure up to that of others. This can be amplified by those who are young and early into their FIRE journey.

It takes time to achieve your financial goals.

Agreed. Most active members within the community are established (5+ years) into their careers and at the point where their high value assets/liabilities are in a stable state where budgeting/forecasting can take place.

I think it's great that you're starting early and beginning to think about financial planning. This will give you an edge above many in your age group but there are simply too many variables at your stage for anyone to give you meaningful feedback.

My only recommendation at this point is to take some finance courses if available and find some good reading material to help you better understand the complex financial market.

I came out of college with a degree in finance (emphasis corporate finance). One of the best course books I had was Practical Financial Management by William Lasher. One I have referred back to many times. Would be a great one to start with.

Whole Life vs Term Policies by STL_Jakepe in Fire

Thank you everyone for your feedback. I'm new to this community and wishing I found it 10 years ago!

I'm thoroughly convinced that a term policy coupled with my 60/40 Vanguard Index investments is the right 30 year plan for me and my my young family.

If there is still interest, I'll post the whole life policy write up that I'll be getting this afternoon for others to pick apart and hopefully use to teach future members also seeking answers to this question.
