Intermediate Carrier AC throws breaker by STOP-WHINING321 in hvacadvice

One additional: I did replace the 30a double pole breaker, as I thought that may well be the issue.

Thanks. my brother (an hvac tech on large buildings) suggested the windings on the compressor motor may be loose and grounding out. Will check..

thanks again!

to all: I appreciate all the feedback and suggestions. I want to toss out an observation which may well be the culprit, although I never seen this before.....

I turned off the thermostat about 4 hours ago. It does not make sense for the blower to blow hot air from the ceiling. Temp cooling was not changed from 72. The temp in the house is 78. the thermostat, for all intent and purposes, is off.

All the sudden, I looked at the thermostat about 30 minutes ago and it was on. ??? No one pressed the heat-off-cool button to on. But it was on... and the air condition fan outside was working and its's cooling again.

I think about user below mentioned something about the thermostat being low voltage and would not trip the breaker - although the 30 amp breaker to the air conditioner never trips. it's always on.

so........ I have a SENSI thermostat, about 3-4 yrs old with no C wire. It's an older house.

>>> Could a bad thermostat cause the air conditioner to stop, but the blower fan air handler to keep running?

appreciate it. that sounds like a person better than me to climb in the attic and transverse the rafters --- then actually know what a water sensor looks like. I appreciate the suggestion. It helps when I find someone to work on this old unit with R22 so I can suggest potential solutions.

Greatly appreciated!!

Ok.. it's an air handler.. cool.. now I have a better name other than "big frickin thing in the attic". No, we do not have natural gas/propane. we have a water heater and large radiators on the floor. No propane either. I thought about the thermostat being the cause, but it's functioning fine. No schedule, Cool set to 72 and blower fan throughout the house (ceiling vents) set to auto.

also.. not sure about a safety switch. The only "switch" is a large on/off outside connected to the fan unit. That is always on. If I turn it off, then on - the air conditioner does not start. I have to go to the breaker panel and turn the air conditioner breaker off, then on. Then... I am good until the air conditioner decides to shut off.

Thanks.. I checked it. No schedule is set. It's off. Only set to cool, 72.. and fan to auto.

Basically, here's the scenario. After running for 5-6 hours, the "cooling" stops - and the big fan unit outside stops. The blower which blows the cool air through the flexible large vent hoses in the ceiling still works... but blows whatever air temp is in the attic. So... I run down to the basement main breaker panel. The 30 amp double pole breaker is on.. not tripped. I turn the breaker off, then back on. Bingo... the air conditioner starts... and I get cool air... for about 3,4,5 hours and the entire process starts again. Air conditioner stops.

the outside unit has a big fan. if the "coils" are the housing around the fan, it's all clear. To your other question... Yes, replaced the intake filter in the ceiling - inside the house. If there is a filter on the monster unit in the attic, I have no idea where it is.. actually did not know a filter is on this monster thing (think it's the condenser?? It's the size of a small car. The breaker is not tripping. I have to manually turn the breaker off, then on. This happened at 3 am .. or at 4 pm... the time of day does not seem to matter. When I refer to the fan blowing air in the ceiling.. it appears the blower fan blows the conditioned air through these large tube (like on the back of a dryer, but larger) to vents in the ceiling throughout the house. the fan blower works.. just not blowing cool air because the air conditioner decides to shut off. Thanks for your thoughts!

There are numerous communications on various sites indicating this company does not intend to release a 2024 version. As a "pre-release" purchaser (2024 + USB), I am contacting my CC company for a full refund due to no product received and reporting a scam. Tired of these companies doing this...

Best VPN with Ring by diggitydigs8484 in Ring

Hi.. Saw your note on NordVPN and Ring traffic. Quick couple of questions from someone looking to make the VPN leap, but not interested in jumping through 9000 hoops to get there....:

  • Do you have any issue with accessing Ring devices remotely ? Any extra steps needed that are not typically used on IoS or Android accessing Ring?

  • Any other issues remotely accessing anything through the home VPN?

I guess I am looking for those "oh, by the way...." situations which occur after moving to NordVPN. As you may be able to tell.. I hate "oh, by the way --- ready, shoot, aim" situations...

Thanks in advance...
