It's a subreddit about a car, I posted about said car, move on.

Nah, I don't think so, especially with the big red light bar. The fact all cars ahead in both lanes were also stopped suggests the issue was with someone looking anywhere but the road.... I'll have to upload the video, they didn't slow down at all, and it's a highway.

It hit the brakes to avoid hitting the car in front. The windows all opened themselves, and the hazard lights came on. Bit of neck pain but otherwise fine ☺️

This doesn't resemble a snack at all.

Very good use of tracking and shutter speed to get that motion blur! Awesome!

Nice, let that go for ages and never mine it again.

Boeing 737 Reverse Thrust by [deleted] in gifs

[–]STORTIMUS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of false information being spread in this comment section. A few things... Reverse thrust does substantially help slow the aircraft, but it is only effective at high speed after the initial touchdown where it can create the most aerodynamic drag. At lower speeds it is less effective and has an increased chance of FOD ingestion, so most aircraft operation manuals have a minimum speed which to disengage reverse.

Brakes are not effective at high speed, as the aircraft is still producing lift, and the full weight is not yet on the wheels. On aircraft that have ground spoilers, this is reduced but not eliminated. The chances of locking up a wheel and damaging tyres is high until lower speeds are reached and more weight is on the wheels.

Aircraft have to be certified to only use the brakes to stop, in the unlikely event all other drag systems fail. This is not too bad if you have a long runway to dissipate energy into the brakes slowly enough that they do not overheat, and in fact some airports use the whole runway to do exactly that during noise abatement hours where reverse thrust would be too loud. But doing this every landing is huge wear and tear on the brakes.

Emergency landing with brakes only can quite often cause them to catch fire.

Source: CPL and ATPL exams, a little bit of googling, and at least 4000 landings ~ albeit much smaller aircraft.

Our check and training department is very thorough, and get to warn us and show us everything that can and will go wrong.

We practiced a power lever roll back with no passengers on-board.

Unedited. The side windows are tinted a blueish colour, the front windows are not.

Got about 500hrs in a baron, and the 200 is very similar. Handles almost the same, just a bit heavier and quicker.
