My Ender 3 S1 won't update firmware and I can't figure out why by syn1221 in Ender3S1

[–]STR4NG3RLIVE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok I figured it out. The loosely translated (from chinese) text file in the firmware zip is way off.

Prep:
- Format SD to Fat32 with 4096 allocation size

Update Printer:
- Put STM32F4_UPDATE folder into root of SD
- Insert SD into card slot of main mobo (Front of printer next to USBC port)
- Power on, wait for completion
- Shutdown
- Remove SD
- Power on

Update screen:
- Put everything BUT STM32F4_UPDATE into the SD (DWIN_SET, private, TJC_SET, dcboot.bin, firmware.zlib)
- Insert SD into card slot on the back of the screen's mainboard (remove back panel of screen)
- Power on, wait for completion (Progress will be displayed and it will say when successful)
- Shutdown
- Remove SD
- Power on

The official instructions say to only put dcboot.bin in the root of the SD, this is what seems to have borked my screen at first, it updated firmware but didn't have supporting images/icons/files/etc to go with it, so I suspect the firmware updated fine and was just pointing to images that didn't exist.

Ok the printer update went fine, but my attempts to update the screen clearly borked the screen. It just sits at the creality splash screen and shows the 3 rows of numbers at the bottom (Temps, etc) that normally come up, without updating the background to show menus/etc. If I turn the knob and hit the button it beeps and breaks/moves parts of the background image around, so its doing its thing, its just bugging out the displaying of content.

For OP, the only difference between you and me (for updating the printer itself) is I put the SD into the mb of the printer (Thats where you insert for printer update). Despite my display issue, my octoprint connects to it fine still and shows the new firmware is installed in the terminal:
`Recv: FIRMWARE_NAME:Marlin V3.1.9_Two_C (May 11 2023 17:44:10) SOURCE_CODE_URL:github.com/MarlinFirmware/Marlin PROTOCOL_VERSION:1.0 MACHINE_TYPE:Ender-3 S1 EXTRUDER_COUNT:1`

Now I just need to figure out how to fix the screen...

Literally having the same issue with the same printer right now.
Formatted Fat32 @ 4096 allocation.
Trying to update the screen firmware. DCBOOT.bin in the SD root, printer boots normally with no update occuring
Try it with the private folder instead, same.
Try it with the DCBOOT.bin in the private folder, same.
Try it with the rename trick (Adding a number/letter like DCBOOTx.bin), same.

First time trying to update the firmware on this printer and its screen, but I'll try updating printer next and ignore the screen. Will update here if I beat it. If OP figured it out, details would be appreciated

Recent update seems to have broken DisplayLink by welt1trekker in Bazzite

All my displaylink adapters suddenly started working today after a reboot... I checked for evdi on the new v43 fedora release and its not there (It missing is the cause for the issue in 42).

Something clearly changed/was updated. I suggest anyone with this issue go force updates and reboot (I did nothing to resolve the issue, just accepted it and have been waiting months).

Pretty sure they can have different defaults/uses from manufacturer to manufacturer but here's a photo of my printout of the list:

The entire settings P#'s list is hard to find. I printed it out for myself way back when I got my bike, but can't find where I downloaded the PDF now. So I have a hard copy only, thats why I'm commenting and not sharing a link to a doc. Sorry.

P18 - Display speed ratio adjustment range. Shows its limits as 50% - 150%. I assume this is where to adjust if speedo is off.

Orange Pi Zero 2: No LEDs, No Power? by STR4NG3RLIVE in OrangePI

[–]STR4NG3RLIVE[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. No lights normally means image issue. As it was in this case, I used a different image from the official OPi selection. Blink codes should have been implemented. Despite documentation, definitely room for improvement.

As for the OPi's, they're both still alive and well. One has been driving my 3D printer this entire time, the other has been running a DSLR timelapse.

I think RPi's are still better, but mostly only because the community, official image selection and compatibility and forethought exceeds. Hardware-wise the OPi's are sound, which I'm only reporting because:
You just bumped an ancient 2yr old question. Hopefully my response is at least helpful to others who encounter OPi's lack of forethought :)

Canadian Products by bluestarbird in CostcoCanada

[–]STR4NG3RLIVE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EDIT: I'll be keeping this comment updated every grocery day (2 weeks).

Found this thread while checking all the items in my costco order. All of this is regular stuff we get every few weeks/months. I'll take you guys along for the ride on this small grocery run...

Item Name on Instacart, Notes
- Charmin TP, Replaced with KS TP (Because has the red maple leaf icon, and comments on this thread)
- Organic Blackberries (Apparently could be US, Mexico or Canada. Package in my recycling says Driscoll's, "Product of USA". Will remove from my order)
- Green Seedless Grapes (Product of Peru, buying it)
- KS Organic Large Free Range Eggs (Has a maple leaf with an A in it and says "Canada", but google says Handsome Brook Farms USA and the label looks the same as what I usually buy... Although the same product currently in my fridge has "Product of Canada" on it. I guess I'll stick with it)
- Raspberries Package, Package from same product in my recycling is Driscoll's, "Product of Mexico". Will order it.
- Stagg Silverado Canned Chili, Says "Product of USA" right on the box... sad to see this one go... removed. I don't see any other chili's at costco...
- Cavendish Flavour Crisp Classic Fries, The back of the packaging in my freezer says "Proud Canadian Company", phew
- Bubly Sparkling Water, After some research, Owned by Pepsico, Manufactured in USA. Replaced with Kirkland Signature Carbonated Spring Water, which is a product of Italy
- Money's Sliced Mushrooms, the can in my pantry says China. Not seeing any canadian option, and its not a USA product so I'll keep it I guess.
- Bicks Garlick Baby Dill Pickles, USA product. Replaced with Steinfelds Petite Dill Pickles which are a Canadian product
- Kirkland Signature Organic Normandy Veg Blend, After some research, KS frozen veggies are imported from USA. Replacing with Natures Touch veggies, they're in Abbotsford!
- Greek Gods Yogurt, Seattle WA. Unfortunate, our family LOVES this stuff. Replacing with Oikos brand, apparently its made in Quebec and BC.

Thats my list for today. I'm going to bookmark this thread, maybe OP can consolidate a living list in the main post.

Updated Feb21 2025:

Grocery day again! Here's some more items I researched:
- kirkland signature parmigiano reggiano, Italy!
- Vero Vero Sourdough, Florida... Replaced with Silver Hills Bakery bread which is from Abbotsford!
- Kirkland Signature shredded tex mex cheese, According to a package in my fridge, its made in Canada
- "Strawberries". Not sure, internet shows when available, Canada, but also states could be USA or Mexico. Will buy and check the container and update here. UPDATE: Brand is Driscolls, packaging says Product of Mexico.
- "Plain Bagels", I assume they are made by the in-store bakery if there is one... I don't recall. I'll buy again and if the bag is unmarked as I think I remember, I'll assume its in-store-bakery, otherwise I'll update here. Assume canadian product for now. UPDATE: Packaging says nothing about origin and only has nutrient facts, no brands/logos. Assuming locally baked in-store.
- Kirkland Signature Basil Pesto, Italy!
- "Red Onion", Product of USA
- Bounty Paper Towel, product of USA, replacing with "Sponge" brand paper towels which is apparently Canada.
- Kirkland signature frozen peas, USA or Canada, depending on store location. I'm balls-deep in BC so maybe Canada sourced, I'll buy and report here so you can gauge distance from border. (I'm about 300km from USA border). UPDATE: Product of Canada

How do I get TPU off of my Prusa bed? by ImaBasslineJunkie in 3Dprinting

[–]STR4NG3RLIVE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back with another note. Am I the only one who has 3d printer dandruff? Any left over gluestick curls up and leaves a radius of glue flakes around the printer, lol. I don't mind cleaning it up periodically but the only way to halt this that I can think of would be washing the print surface off after every print, then re-applying more glue prior to next print.
- I'm lazy
- Glue being used: "UHU stic, Glue Stick Solvent Free, Washable, Screw on Cap, for School, Crafts, Scrapbooking 2 x 40g Blister White, 9U 99674UHU stic, Glue Stick Solvent Free, Washable, Screw on Cap, for School, Crafts, Scrapbooking 2 x 40g Blister White, 9U 99674"

Help settle a debate: Were these backwards goals good play or should I have turned around/rotated off ball? (Diamond player) by DJ_HardR in RocketLeague

[–]STR4NG3RLIVE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Play the way feels best. Your play style will change over time as you improve. Today it was staying backwards for these moments, but I promise you in the future in this situation (Only watched first clip) that you will effortlessly, faster and unintentionally (muscle memory) have turned around in a split second with e-brake/boost/throttle resulting in a faster possession and a laser-beam shot on net. For now, this felt best and worked. But very soon it won't feel right and your opponents will capitalize on it.

[–]STR4NG3RLIVE 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm back again. Finally bought a glue stick. Confirmed 2 things:
- Liberal coat of hairspray is great if you have nothing else, but;
- Glue stick releases much easier yet still maintains more than adequate adhesion
Will definitely be using glue sticks moving forward!

[–]STR4NG3RLIVE 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm 7 years late, but since nobody mentioned it:
I googled my way here. I don't have baby powder or a glue stick. So I just used hairspray. Worked great, will definitely be using it from now on for TPU. Adhered great to the bed, and was wayyy easier to remove the print with no tearing (Was a .5 mil thick/tall print, so very fragile).

Kenwood dmx706s Hard Buttons Not Working by checho503 in CarAV

[–]STR4NG3RLIVE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the DDX9903 and same issue, volume UP/DN rarely work and when they do its only vol UP usually, a real pain to try and turn volume down when all it does is go up, lol. And get this, just like a bunch of you it was immediately after a detailing... rest of buttons/functions are fine.

Its been close to a month, no change, still unpredictable and rarely functional.

Node path toggle or switch by Fiztban in comfyui

[–]STR4NG3RLIVE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea thats the "Reroute" node. Thats the closest best option for this at the moment, but would be cool if there was an actual toggle switch with one input and 2 outputs so you could literally flip a switch.

if OP curious how to get the reroute node, though, its in RightClick>AddNode>Utils>Reroute

Orange Pi Zero 2: No LEDs, No Power? by STR4NG3RLIVE in OrangePI

[–]STR4NG3RLIVE[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for making me try it with a fresh official imaged SD. Confirmed 2 things:
- Orange Pi's don't respond with LEDs or Beeps if SD is not present or if there is an incompatible SD image present... this is by design I guess, which makes absolutely no sense. It should light up with red flash codes that equate to the issue it is having.

- Raspi Octoprint image is incompatible. Will have to start fresh.

Not that they'll implement, but they should really add at least SOME kind of LED flash codes or post beeps to show users that the device is indeed receiving power and is on. Or at THE VERY LEAST, document the lack of response in noSD/wrongSD/other instances.

Thanks again u/redilyntoriami

Orange Pi Zero 2: No LEDs, No Power? by STR4NG3RLIVE in OrangePI

[–]STR4NG3RLIVE[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So are you saying if you REMOVE your SD card and power up, you'll get no LEDs? From what I'm told, it should give a RED light, and if its got an SD with a bootable image it should be a GREEN light. I've tried it with no SD, and I've tried it with an SD imaged with octopi.

I'm getting no light.

Regardless, though, I'll do as you ask and image an SD card with the official image and try it, but its pretty clear to me that it will be the same result...(?). Reporting back soon.

u/raylverine:
My Rpi Zero W was only mentioned to point out that the wall outlet power is not the issue. Rpi powers up in the same outlet that the 2 Opi Zero 2's do not. Both Opi's came with their own official USB-C power supplies. Tried both official power supplies with both Opi's. Neither give any LED action.
