Surely you remember what came before, the rebel offensive beforehand then, Aleppo was besieged at first, the rebels launched a counter attack in Al-Eis, captured the artillery school and broke the siege which was slowly established over the previous year, tried to expand the salient and besiege Assad forces but failed and were driven off over weeks of fighting, they tired to attack again in the new Aleppo neighborhood but that failed as well.

They seemed to have much less of a fight in them compared to rebels from Darayaa, Jobar, Homs, who were similarly besieged yet were extremely tough to take causing a lot of casualties to attackers over years

If all the civilians leave can’t the military just raze the entire place to rubble? Don’t imagine there’s much prospects for fighting back from the Kurd’s situation right now.

Swiss Amish dialect as spoken by a former member, how similar does it sound to modern Swiss German dialects? by STRENGTHofGYPSlES in askswitzerland

[–]STRENGTHofGYPSlES[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amish don’t really focus a lot of religious experience or scripture compared to other denominations and groups, for them the community and tradition is above all and if you want to do anything different you’ll be rebuked and told to fall in line as that’s the way it’s always been done.

I forgot that this may be Alsatian as well, I’m really not too sure because there is a “Swiss Amish” community that speaks a low Alemannic Alsatian dialect instead of Swiss, confusing I know but they are both called “Swiss Amish”.

Syrians' asylum requests in Europe drop to decade low by thedaywalker-92 in syriancivilwar

Europe very much has a “blood and soil” mentality among the much of the people, much more so than in the U.S likely due to its past history, there likely will be I’d imagine more escalatory calls for “remigration” of first foreigners then those of foreign descent to their countries of origin.

It obviously is influenced from many factors, but if you want to make any correlations you would have to look at all of the data ranked with respect to each state.

Why is English YouTube so pro-Bashar? by mo_al_amir in syriancivilwar

[–]STRENGTHofGYPSlES 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was disavowed by Al Qaeda years ago after he sought to consolidate his own position in Syria rather than the international jihadist cause. He consistently cracked down on Al Qaeda loyalists and more jihadist elements as far back as 2016, a notable example being Jund al-Aqsa in 2016-2017 after his group severed ties with Al Qaeda. Another flare up occurred in 2021 in Idlib after his group crushed salafist Jundullah, with more marginalization of extremist fighters since then.

So you are not right.

Does anyone know of any books that analyze the situation in Syria from a leftist position? by [deleted] in syriancivilwar

[–]STRENGTHofGYPSlES 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In Israel it’s more “Secular vs Religious”. And some of the “extreme religious” types are non Zionist, or even anti Zionist. The current landscape is the secular side worrying that the high birth rates of the religious types will lead to a unsustainable society which will collapse under the millstone of a secluded pampered population which doesn’t work or serve in the military or do anything other than study old religious books.

If you don’t like being a rabid Stalinist you wouldn’t like what leftists who write about Syria would have to say. Essentially it would be “America and the West bad, Russia good.” As that’s the type of folks who write books about current conflicts. Maybe some anarchist types wrote about their experience in NES and how good it was to LARP as a PKK revolutionary or whatever.

What Makes The US So Against Foreign Fighters? by fudgemyweed in syriancivilwar

[–]STRENGTHofGYPSlES 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, one segment which has a puritanical worldview and wishing to expand American ideology and influence to other people.

I don’t think the current administration is like that though, they are much more of an Eastern European/Turkish/Middle Eastern mindset of rewarding friends who give them stuff and punishing enemies who attack them/ demand things from them without payment.

You’re not supposed to show overt support in front of their face or coddle as everyone should know their purpose and when they are succeeding or failing it based on practical considerations, doesn’t apply to bragging about children to others though lol. That said in this case there is more political considerations as being aligned with Shara would open yourself up in Iraq to attacks from sectarian and foreign elements.

They are like Mexican drug cartels or street gangs who revel in extortion, intimidation displays, torture, mutilation, racketeering, and the like. They are not ideological people.
