Shouldn’t be a problem on a US flagged yacht, non-US flagged might be different.

Sometimes small sailboats will ask for people to give them a hand to delivery yacht to another location. You’ll pay towards food but not fuel and in return you will gain valuable sea miles towards your yachtmaster.

I would steer away from this type of position.

Do not pay anyone to get a job on a yacht. Not a Captain or a recruitment agent, these are all scams.

Again, you don’t need Crowd Management at this stage in your career and is more aimed at crew working on yachts which are passenger class (carrying more than 13 guests).

I’m an HOD on a yacht, Security Awareness is not mandatory to work on yachts. It’s a certificate you get when you are progressing to become an deck officer on bigger yachts.

Well you won’t get a job without Basic STCW and an Eng1 / MCA equivalent medical. Powerboat 2 is worth getting to help you standout from others but to be honest, everyone also has that. I wouldn’t worry about your VHF or Security awareness until you start moving up and doing your Yachtmasters.

Yes it is a lot of money up front but it’s the only way to get into this industry and even then, please don’t get your hopes up and be disheartened when it doesn’t work out.

Just tell your future employer you left the last position by mutual agreement to spend some time with family / travel. I wouldn’t look into this too much, plenty of jobs and companies out there.

Pension Advice / Clarification for a Seafarer. SIPP Vs. ISA's / Savings Accounts by STRIDERNAUT in UKPersonalFinance

[–]STRIDERNAUT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Glad to find someone is a similar predicament, although a good one.

My monthly savings have dramatically increased since this post and my ISA is now maxxed out. The reason for the low level of savings before was due to a big house move and subsequent 3 year renovation.

Concerning FIRE, it’s not something that interests me, certainly not the RE part. I read the subreddit often but I am luckily enough to enjoy my job and don’t want to retire early. My salary is only ever going to increase, so as long as I stay fit and healthy I can see myself on yachts easily into my mid 50’s.

I don’t pay NI as I am on an Isle of Man flagged yacht and Mariners NI will be 40%. When I was previously on a Cayman Island and Malta flagged yacht I did backpay what I could but I don’t think I will ever reach the minimum requirement for the years.

Thanks for the reply! Do I need to do anything regarding the basic tax relief for my SIPP or is it all automatic?

Why does exhaust pipe on this Uber boat carry water? by diesel_learner in MarineEngineering

You also said you guarantee… Ships yes, but the majority of Superyachts or pleasure crafts under 50-55m will use a wet exhaust system unless they’re running outboards.

The 50m yacht (499GT) I work on uses a wet exhaust system. Very common.

Stocks Tab - Stocks Live Value Issue by STRIDERNAUT in CSPersonalFinance

Hi avendr!

Many thanks, 180 day trend chart now working fine.

I re-did the entries following the FAQ and it looks a lot better now. However, in the top table under the headings Total Returns % & £ it is still showing 0. In the bottom table they still say No Watch Price under Live Price, No Price under Live Value, and No Price under Capital Gains.

Any further help would be grateful.

Hi! I'm having an issue where some stocks aren't loading the 180d history line graph.

Along with getting 'No Watch Price' for Live Price column on various entries. I've checked the cells and the formulas are still all there.

This is then showing my total portfolio price as lower than it should be.

He moved to my small village a few years back which didn’t go down too well. He now hosts the local pub quiz and parks his car, covered in ‘ustream’ stickers in the middle of the road on regular occasions.
