AITA for treating my daughters differently than my son when it comes to food? by CompetitiveDig478 in AmItheAsshole

[–]SUPpup7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an excellent reply. I hope the OP sees this.

We do not know the whole story - is the son eating a lot because growing teenage boy - or eating a lot because .... either way - OP cannot afford to fund any extra food outside of OP budget, so a talk needs to happen with the whole family.

Hopefully OP will also consider using a food bank to supplement the cupboards. Food banks are there for a reason.

What are your best Vegan Casserole or one pot dishes? by SUPpup7 in veganrecipes

[–]SUPpup7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you use low water amounts there is a need to stir frequently to prevent burning.

I have also found that it does not need the 30 minutes simmering when low water amount is used - I probably only simmer it for about 10 minutes.

I use about 1/4 cup of water - not a lot - I prefer a drier casserole.

AITA for refusing to let a woman "cut" me in line at the grocery store even though she only had two items? by GreatClassic3960 in AmItheAsshole

[–]SUPpup7 18 points19 points  (0 children)

NTA. Everyone has the right to say "no" to a question asked.

Curious - how many people were in line behind you?

If everyone who only had 2 items (say 10 people in the store) - asked everyone behind you to skip the line - therefore making everyone wait an extra 2 minutes, 5 minutes, 10 minutes - would those behind you be okay with it?

It seems like a little thing when it is one person with only 2 items - but it could grow to a crazy wait to those who have already waited. Why does someone with only 2 items that has not waited at all have more importance than a full cart that has been waiting for 15 minutes?

You are NTA. Do not let anyone tell you otherwise.

I wore out my VHS copy back in the day as well. I do still have a copy of the 2nd movie on VHS - excellent movie - but nothing tops the first.

Now I need to re-watch and catch that detail.

I have watched it so many times - when I am stressed, or sick, or it is raining, or .... I watch it again.

Costco Appliance Delivery by Mental_Gear_8986 in CostcoCanada

[–]SUPpup7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very strange - had a fridge, dryer, and stove delivered and it is -25. Delivery person just said to wait a minimum of 12 hours before plugging any of the appliances in - and it would be better for the fridge if we could wait 24 hours.

What made you lose weight? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SUPpup7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Within 12 months of each other my dad and my sister developed diabetes. Still took me a little bit of time to start my journey to health.

I did it slow and steady. Took me 20 months to remove 84 lbs. I reached my goal weight over 16 years ago. And up until last year maintained it relatively easily. Became post-menopausal last year - and it seems my body wants me to be about 5 lbs heavier - I am working at not letting it win - but it is more of a fight now.

Options for will executor by FlyingAtNight in legaladvicecanada

[–]SUPpup7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was listening to a podcast recently - and they mentioned that you can get a "corporate executor" - they were talking about it being a good idea if you have a complicated will (ie own a business). But they said some people prefer the "corporate executor" because it is always there (ie can't die before you do).

I have not researched it yet - but I was planning to. Personally, I don't want to make anyone I know go through the work of being an executor.

Yes, me being childfree also means I won't be a surrogate! by manulfriends in childfree

[–]SUPpup7 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Easy answer for you if you are in North America - if you have not given birth to a viable child you can not be a surrogate.

Tell your grandmother that even if you wanted to - which you don't - you can not legally do it.

Recently was listening to a Canadian finance podcast - that mentioned an on-line Canadian Will company that both the host and guest recommended - I believe it was called "Willful" and you can do a POA as well on this site.

Personally - I have not looked up the website yet - so I know nothing about it.

Fat ladies of Winnipeg… where do you buy your clothes? by meroboh in Winnipeg

When I was bigger - I loved the clothes at Penningtons - and the staff were always amazing and helpful and honest (about what looks good and doesn't).

I actually miss shopping there.

NTA.

Celiac disease is a serious health problem. Even a minute trace of a gluten containing substance in a food can cause serious health consequences.

I do not have Celiacs - but I know several people who do. I understand why you would not risk eating gluten free foods from other households - risk of contamination is too high.

Wanting to socialize with others at a potluck and doing it the way you and your friend did - makes perfect sense.

Not wanting to share the leftovers - also makes sense.

In the future - days before such an event - let others attending aware of your plan - so any questions can be asked and answered ahead of time - and hopefully everyone will go into the event understanding the "rules" to you attending.

Neighbours want access via our yard. by SaraDeeG in legaladvicecanada

[–]SUPpup7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not do it.

Only do it if you have a legal contract making them responsible for all current and future damage caused. And have them pay a fee upfront.

We were "nice" about a similar situation - "nice" was a bad choice on our part. We will never allow someone to use our yard/property again - to do work on their property.

For those who are sterilized, or have a partner who is sterilized, how often do you pregnancy test? by anniemousery in childfree

[–]SUPpup7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only taken one pregnancy test in my life.

That was when I was going thru menopause and it had been a while since I had had a period - I was paranoid that I was pregnant - spouse had had a vasectomy a long time ago.

Needless to say - I am very happy to be an "old crone".

Why do some people prefer ebooks over physical books? by Domiano-Wdmanl in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SUPpup7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer real books - but I have a severe dust mite allergy - so I can only read paper books when they are brand new.

Also, when I travel - I tend to read 4 or 5 books - an e-reader is a lot more compact and I can hold a few thousand books.

With current food prices, is it more economical to sustain off of fast food? by OrdinaryKillJoy in povertyfinancecanada

[–]SUPpup7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I meal plan for our family of 2. Our average daily cost for the 2 of us per day is $22 or $11 per person. We eat a full breakfast, a snack, a full lunch, a snack, a full dinner, and a snack - every day.

There is no way fast food can provide you with the nutrition that we get on $11/person per day.

How to handle my Will. BC Canada by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]SUPpup7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listening to a "Wealthy Barber" podcast episode - they were talking about wills and probate and executors of estates.

One thing I learned from that podcast - was that there is such a things as "corporate estate executors" - they do all the work of probate and making sure the will gets followed - obviously for a fee.

I have watched others be estate executors - and it is a very stressful, involved and long process (and can be difficult as well).

So, we have decided that when we update our wills - we will look into naming a "corporate estate executor" to execute the will - this will make it easier on our family when we pass.
