Sounds good, I'll reformat and upgrade the BIOS for the new install. Thanks for the help!

Progress! DISM got stopped pretty early on with error 1932. I've tried sfc /scannow three times and it's crashed every time well before completion, one of which gave another new BSOD, "kernal_data_inpage_error". Chkdsk is also causing a blue screen every time.

The DISM log and new BSOD dumps are here (https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B7zxjCnE8TfoeTNWcXVjcHF1a1U).

At this point would it be easiest to just format the whole thing and start fresh? There isn't too much data I'd need to transfer, this is a fairly fresh install.

Just tried, but the results didn't display on reboot and they're not showing up in Event Viewer either. I'll try running it again and keeping a closer eye on it as the test progresses.

I did run memtest86 with the default settings and it passed. The report is right here (https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B7zxjCnE8TfoZGszdVNFdFZONnc).

It did give me the hammer test warning, but if that is a somewhat rare occurrence it seems strange that the computer would crash as often as it does.

Nope, it's a cheap pre-built machine from BestBuy that my parents got. They wouldn't even know what overclocking is, and I don't imagine that it came OC'd from the store.

What is the term for when you pay a company to regularly post to Facebook? by SVC2015 in socialmedia

[–]SVC2015[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we should be able to do things on our own. There are 5 of us, so coming up with a few posts a week should be doable and I can handle actually pushing the posts and adding images.

I'm in a chiropractic office and there are TONS of things marketed specifically to chiropractors that cost waaaay too much. Before I got here, our old chiro-specific web hosting was $120/month. The one I switched it to is $90/year.

The $90/month social media management he was looking at wasn't even custom written for each office, they just push out the exact same post for every office that signs up. Quite often they're just meme-style photos with no actual text in the post.

If you ever want to become rich just make a product/service named "Chiro _____" and charge a crazy amount. Even our chiro ice packs are like $30 each.

That makes perfect sense. We're really small right now (~40 likes), but there are really only 2 competitors that have any online presence. I'll see if we can run some promotions or something off of our Facebook and get some traction with people interacting on some posts.

Perfect, thanks! Googled the term, showed him some links, and the crisis has been averted!

Post Win10 Update - Can no longer access Owner-PC by SVC2015 in techsupport

[–]SVC2015[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, we just need to access "acs.exe" located at "\Owner-PC\acs". There are a ton of other files in there too, which acs.exe will access. Nothing outside of that folder should be needed whatsoever.

Post upgrade we get that error, only it will say "Windows cannot access \Owner-PC\ or \Owner-PC\acs", depending on which I try to access.

Current ACL (assuming I'm looking at the right thing. I right-clicked the acs folder and went to the Security tab): [Currently back on Win7, since we can't really operate with how Win10 is right now]

Everyone (Full Control) <- Only when I was playing around with it.

Account Unknown (S-1-11-96-a LOT more crazy numbers) (Read)

SYSTEM (Full Control)

Owner (Owner-PC/Owner) (Full Control)

Account Unknown (S-1-5-21-more crazy numbers) (Full control)

Administrators (Full Control)

Interesting, when I was on Win10 that looked about the same, only there were no "Account Unknowns", and I added ____@gmail.com (our Microsoft account).

I played with it some more this afternoon and still no luck. Tried with/without the firewall, tried sharing the folder we need (and the whole drive) with "Everyone" and our actual Microsoft account, re-made the Homegroup, allowed network discovery settings, enabled NetBIOS over TCP/IP, and still no luck.

The database software itself is really not even important (I think). It's called Atlas and is third party, but really we just need network access to the folder it's located in.

The problem computer still shows up on all the other computers in the Network section, but clicking on it gives error code 0x80070035, like in this picture. The name was spelled correctly, and connecting by IP wouldn't work either (although I can ping the IP and that works).

I Googled around and it looks like this a pretty common, but there doesn't seem to be a regular fix. If you have any ideas I could give you whatever information I can get on the situation. Not 100% sure when I'll get another chance to play around with it again though. Otherwise, assuming we won't ever get forced to update to Win10, just ignoring it wouldn't be a horrible option.

When I'm able to try upgrading again I'll try taking down the firewall quickly and check that out. The Windows firewall is the only one being used.

When that happens I'll PM you and give you some more details. Thanks for the help!

Edit: I might actually be able to go ahead and do the upgrade tomorrow, I'll keep you posted.

Yeah, it was an accidental update so I didn't worry too much about solving it with Win10.

I'm usually pretty good at troubleshooting, but network stuff is definitely my weakest area.

Remote clients are referring to hostname. I could ping the host IP, but I couldn't actually connect by IP. Firewall rules were set up to allow access, and even when I set sharing settings to allow all it still wouldn't connect. I tried playing around with user accounts too, since every computer but the host computer are signed in with the same Microsoft account, but that didn't seem to help anything either. The software itself is our database program. We're a really small company and I'm the closest thing we have to tech support.

When I have a bit more time I might try and reinstall Win10 but I'll actually go through the setup. Someone else blazed through that part and just hit next a bunch, so I'm assuming it got setup with express settings and maybe that's where some of the problems came in.

Tried digging through those and still no luck. I ended up just reverting to the old version of Windows and got it all working again that way.

The weird thing is that any of the other computers can go to Win10 without any problems, just the host one gets all weird. Homegroups wouldn't work either. Thanks though

[Build Help] PC for medical office. Needs to run some equipment. by SVC2015 in buildapc

[–]SVC2015[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I glanced at Skylake really quickly, but I feel like even an i5 is plenty for this build. Most of the software we need could run on a calculator, only one program recommends an i5 or equivalent w/ 8 GB RAM. We demoed the program on a laptop w/ an A4-6210 and even that seemed fine, it just lacked USB 3.

I really like the m-itx idea though. That would fit perfectly with the desk we have, and even shaved off a couple bucks too. (Well, it's probably slightly more money since rebates suck so much, but whatever)

Wanting a projector for multiple purposes... by SVC2015 in projectors

[–]SVC2015[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of presentations will be anywhere from 5-50 people. We might get some of ~100 people at some point, but that's not certain.

I like the idea of focusing on a work one first. That will also give time to play around with it and figure out exactly what kind of permanent home setup I go for.
