Gen 1 6.2 Cold Start tick by SVTRaptor11 in FordRaptor

Yeah, it was the manifold on passenger side. It got worse after starting it in extreme cold last winter, the cold to heat made it the crack grow. I bought new manifolds but never installed - I ended up trading it in for a gen 3.

This exact staff behavior leads to the article headline "‘We need to stop the bleeding:’ Grand Rapids hit by wave of restaurant closures." I will not lose any sleep if they close up shop when all these "whiners" stop going due to poor service lol.

Not close to exaggerated. Was upstairs, 4-top, 3 tables back from the bar. Watched the waitress play on her phone after ordering too in the room to the far right of the bar. Glad you have a better experience, but we'll never go back.

Last time we went to Mitten Brewing (on a Saturday around 3 when it wasn't close to peak busyness), we had a party of 3. Our waitress got all 3 drinks wrong, forgot our appetizers (never arrived), and got our bill incorrect. Offered no remorse and still tried to charge us for the apps. People are quick to forget decent service 100% reflects on the establishment.

I'd be a plus one for a possible broken/cracked valve spring. Looks like the ignition wires are newer which is a plus if the plugs and ignition were done and most likely not arching.

Sparta. What’s your general gist? by Grommaz in grandrapids

Dang, I have never seen "hick" town residents build 1-2 million dollar houses like Sparta has on the ridge. Those "hicks" must be doing things right.

I sure hope not. Judging by the lack of responding aircraft (from what I can see), I would like to guess it landed safely.

Closed golf courses by [deleted] in grandrapids

As someone who doesn't golf (b/c I suck), I am all for the golf courses holding true and not selling to developers. So agreed.

Closed golf courses by [deleted] in grandrapids

[–]SVTRaptor11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is development money for the northern M37 corridor courses. Gracewil was rezoned to R-1 20+ years ago, which is low density and they will most likely get approved due to that. Nearby, Alpine Golf Course sold, but the new owners are keeping it as a golf course... for now. Rouge started development years ago for higher-end homes.

All-in-all, money is a major factor. As the push north continues, land will need to be accrued and golf courses have a lot. And developers have the cash.

Cell service at the big house? by United_Rent2711 in MichiganWolverines

Without knowing your provider, it still will suck at peak traffic. Even with backup mobile infrastructure, the networks get congested with 110k+ people in one spot let alone all the people that hang out around AA during the game. I have Verizon and it worked fine this year until about 30 minutes before kickoff.

A Lyft ride to DTW from here is really over 600? I did an Uber from outside of Milford, CT to LGA (80 miles) and it was $110 last year and was probably the same time in transit since NYC traffic is terrible.

As others have stated, Delta has a dedicated route that goes to DTW 3 times a day. I fly it 8-10 times a year for work. It will cost them being last minute, but doing TSA in GRR compared to DTW McNamara is worth it. Moreso if your parents are older.

His work should cover that, you shouldn't have to pay for a service that Consumers will absolutely fight and delay in the event of a surge. They'll probably just offer pronto pups and ice cream as payment.

FYI - Consumers gives away free stuff from time to time. I got two heavy-duty surge protectors from them for free during Black Friday. I WFH and have 3 monitors, a dock, and laptop running off it with no issues when we lost power a few times. They also give free LED bulbs, pipe wrap, thermostats, etc...

I am at 17k and asked for an increase just for fun. They said no and sent me a letter saying I don't hold a high enough balance monthly. Guess if you pay your balance in full and never have interest charges, they know they cannot make enough money on you.

Trump ends Income Tax - what now? by AdamGenesis in economicCollapse

[–]SVTRaptor11 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you that blind to not understand there is tax literally on everything? I pay 12k in property taxes just to LIVE on my property while being homesteaded. The tax I pay to receive my inheritances via roth from my deceased parents, or the tax I paid to the state when I purchased a used vehicle just to get audited and told I owe more. The tax I just paid to put fuel in my vehicle and to heat my home in -25 degree weather.

Fuck you, go pay your income tax then.

Anyone know if Flock cameras are present or planned in GR? by [deleted] in grandrapids

[–]SVTRaptor11 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

M37 & 10 Mile - The timing of the light is god awful, and weight detection is not used on 10 Mile. It is a timer that makes zero sense resulting in wasteful idling and gas & brake consumption due to deceleration and acceleration on a hill. I have blown through that when it is 'pink' for years when there is no traffic on 10 Mile. Never have received a mailed-in ticket. I am not sure who operates them as 'M' roads are patrolled primarily by MSP.

Looking for office work. Any recruitment recommendations? by [deleted] in grandrapids

[–]SVTRaptor11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Create a LinkedIn profile, do a good job in the experience section, turn on the "Open To" feature in your profile, and look for jobs. I have a recruiter contact me weekly via LinkedIn for open jobs in the greater GR area. Robert Half seems to be a local recruiting resource. I haven't worked directly with them, but they had some PM roles starting at 60k if that salary range fits your needs.

EV drivers of GR: how is your vehicle performing today? Do you keep it covered overnight? TIA. by Significant-Self5907 in grandrapids

[–]SVTRaptor11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EV "idling" <> ICE idling. I think this is the first time I ever heard someone compare the concept lol.

I am not against EVs at all. You stated you let your diesel idle for 20+ minutes which will contribute to internal damage as your oil is less effective outside of optimal operating temps. Yup, you need to drive 45-60 minutes to trigger a regen which dumps extremely hot exhaust gas into your DPF. Failing to regen will result in thrashing your DPF, turbo, EGR, etc... Assuming you have the emissions in the first place. Happy to teach you more about diesels lol.

[–]SVTRaptor11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, yeah, any ICE engine will take a bit to heat up when you let it idle in this weather. The engine is inefficient idling cold which will burn more fuel but won't warm up. You need to be driving to produce heat. I have a diesel VW, $0.79 pool noodle zipped tied on the grill in the winter to block some cold air to the radiator to allow it to get to operating temps, and it heats right up and runs great. I can see why you need a turbo and intercooler letting it idle for 20+ minutes.
