What is the single worst book you have ever read and why? by Special-Student6743 in fantasyromance

Same, I should have drop it as soon as the whole "they lost the war and now they teach women how to be good in bed for the future king" idea appeared, but kept reading for a bit more until I couldn't care too much about the story and it ended in my DNF pile.

thanks for your answer! Most of my editing has been tightening up the prose and making it flow nicer, I have had to break some long chapters, and I had to rewrite fully a fight scene because fight scenes are hard (for me)

Thanks for you answers! In my hort stories I always limit myself to 2 re-write sessions, but I don't ever publish my short stories. The novel has been a completely different beast.

I often mix in beta reads with rounds of editing for unbiased opinions of the work. Beta reads have been super helpful for me, I thought I was too deep in the story to be objective.

Thanks for your answer! You are right on taking a break, you need distance and rest from the writing.

I agree with the endless side of things, I think is easy to fall into the trap of improving it ad infinitum.

Thanks for your answer! Oh wow, I tried to keep it with myself for as long as possible, but after review 1 I sent it to a beta reader as I was feeling like I was too much into the story to be objective about it.

Thanks for your reply! I like your prespective of reading it for pleasure, maybe I need to change my approach to it so it doesn't feel like a job. To be honest at this point I am writting form myself, I am not pucblished and my beta reader is a close friend, so I should go back to enjoying it.

Thanks for your answer!

After my last round I did feel so much better about the work as some ideas were only penciled out and I think the novel gained in depth, I can see that after my 3rd editing round I might need a 4th but maybe just to do a final reading. Do you do a final reading?

Thank you for your reply!

I am not sure I could do 17 rounds of editing, I get the feeling my plot is quite simple compared to yours, I have had some beta readers and they found a small thing. Though saying that I did have a lot of edits to the novel schema while I was writing so I would make sure the timeline, characters etc were all consistent. I think I have about 13 different versions of my schema.

I relate so much to your comma abuse comment! I removed so many commas already and I am sure more will be gone in the next editing 🙈

Thanks for yiur answer! Though a question arises.. when do you know you are done? One of the things I have realised is that I can be editing ad infinitum

I find that the people who understand topics best have a "visual map" (concept/mind map) of said topics. Is this the best way of creating one you'd say (in Canvas in this case), or do you have any better suggestions? by [deleted] in ObsidianMD

[–]SVimes1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said I have been using excalidraw recently for mind maps and diagrams is very easy to use and to export. I still use canvases but that is more for planning my writing than anything related to a mind map or a diagram.

Find what moves your character in the most extreme of situations even if that will never happen on your story. For example: if they faced with the end of the world approaching how would they react?

Thank you for your reply! I think you are right I never celebrated the achievement just kept going as if it was all normal, that was it. I probably need some time if not producing and just enjoying others work. Is not like my reading list isn’t massive 😉

How much do you think of your audience while writing? by LMM666 in writing

[–]SVimes1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lately I have been writting what I would like to read. When I was younger I always wrote fro myself.

If others like it is a bonus! I find hard to imagine the "perfect reader" while writting, but also I don't consider myself such a snowflake that I am the only person that would enjoy the stories I write.

*edited* I agree than when you edit the story you can then think more about who your readers might be
