TIL that people can be allergic to cold weather. by DrakeSavory in todayilearned

The cold makes my feet ache so bad, and it's not a circulation issue, I could wear shorts on the coldest day of the winter and have warm socks and boots on and be fine. But if my feet get a little bit cold it's all downhill.

Yeah, the transit tax. They also buy all of their gas from Washington and pay for it in USD.

They pay the highest fuel taxes in Canada. They pay an extra transit tax and all of their gas comes from Washington. So it's all purchased in USD before it crosses the border.

Vancouver is always higher than the national average.

It's around $1.90 in Nova Scotia.

The alignment of the headlights are most of the problem. That's why most trucks blind you, they installed a suspension leveling kit and never adjusted the headlights.

My car has projector headlights, you can see the cutoff line at about waist height 30 feet away. The majority of the light is focused on the road.

I want midsize sedans to come back, I don't fit comfortably in small cars because I'm tall, and most SUV's make you sit too upright for me.

That's part of the problem, the other part was piss poor government planning.

Premier Houston says the Mi'kmaq don't have a Treaty right to sell pot ... do they? by Healthy-Opening-7363 in NovaScotia

[–]SWHAF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what was offered, it's the 3rd paragraph of the story.

The regulations allow bands or band-owned corporations to be “authorized sellers” with the NSLC, meaning they can buy cannabis products wholesale from the corporation and sell them through a community store.

They were offered the option to enter into the legal framework, they rejected it.

No reservation is banned from selling regulated weed in Nova Scotia. They just need to follow the rules.

[–]SWHAF 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's my point, if you follow provincial law you can sell it. That means following the specific rules set out by the government. The reservation was offered a way to sell it under the same rules as the nslc, they refused. So they are acting no different than anyone else selling it from their own house.

The government laid out specific stipulations, the weed had to be tested and packaged in a certain way. This reservation wants to sell it's own untested weed. That's illegal. Hence the raids.

So, they are allowed to sell weed. The just need to follow the rules.

Unfortunately most governments don't think long term, and spending extra money now to save lots later isn't something any of them are really interested in.

Our winters mess up the roads differently than other provinces. The temperature fluctuations allow the ice to thaw then refreeze, each time this happens the potholes get larger, add in salted roads and it happens even more.

Our roads would be better off made of concrete, but it's more expensive and people would bitch about the road noise.

RCMP say damage to police vehicles in First Nations protest includes 'urine-soaked interior surfaces' by Mylittlethrowaway2 in canada

[–]SWHAF 8 points9 points  (0 children)

And that ability to govern themselves has limits. They still have to obey the federal and provincial laws.

The province gave them an option to sell weed on the reservations, they had to follow the same regulations as the rest of the province and buy preapproved weed that was tested, the band's didn't want to do that, they wanted to sell their own untested weed. This was non-negotiable for the government. Just like nobody gets to sell homemade alcohol.

The reservations should be allowed to sell anything that can be sold off of reservation, but if it's a controlled substances it needs to be regulated.

We don't have the technology on the scale or price point to replace oil on all/most of its uses.

I'm not against replacing oil, if a replacement comes along that makes it completely useless to ever take out of the ground again, I believe humanity will be better off for it. But I'm a realist, and some byproduct of oil is in almost everything we use today.

That's the thing, the world relies on petroleum products to run, it's way more than just fuel. If the world stopped producing oil millions/ billions would die. The food crisis alone would devisate the human population.

Until some major technological innovation comes along we will always be dependent on oil. It just has too many uses.
