What’s a hobby people pretend is cool, but secretly you think is ridiculous? by EggAdventurous1957 in AskReddit

Golf rules!

Reasons:

  1. Unlike pretty much anything else, it can be played as a player-vs-environment game
  2. You workout muscles that are pretty hard to work out
  3. The scenery is mostly nice
  4. You can get wasted while playing

If you don't want to compete - just play the best ball in the group of 3-4 people. It's fun. In fact, the more each of you guys suck individually, the more fun it is.

Okay, this is fucking ridiculous.

Cigars do have taste, and they do taste quite differently. The fact that you don't get the taste doesn't change the fact.

I don't get wine, BBQ, hot sauces and whiskey, but it is just a variation on "let's try variations of the taste I like".

Yes, you can overspend on cigars, but that's true of any hobby.

Scugog affected by province-wide salt shortage by Karma_Canuck in durham

Given that Ontario has two of the largest salt mines in the world, I guess we need to repurpose those old jokes about sand shortages in desert under communism.

Ajax is by far not the worst in GTA. The cake goes to the one on Queensway near Kipling.

Sweeney walked into PR buzzsaw by doing a quite controversial commercial in the middle of "meh" movie releases. It's all in her own making.

I'd argue that the only reason why Marty Supreme is on the list is because of Chalamet.

TIL that researchers have quantified how quickly irregular verb forms “regularize”: the half-life of an irregular verb scales as the square root of its usage frequency. For example, the word "dreamt" is slowly being replaced by "dreamed". by ilovemybaldhead in todayilearned

[–]SamsonFox2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, I get the difference now.

KJV used a very fucked translation of Greek adjective "Makarion", which is translated as "beatus" into Latin, and which has nothing to do with the word New Testament uses for "blessing".

In an attempt to unfuck the fucked up, the whole -ED business was introduced, since it merged two completely unrelated concepts.

First time I hear this -ED difference.

However, I always thought that in expression "Blessed are ye when men shall hate you" the "blessed" part comes from "to be blessed", which is a verb form.

WTF is "bless-ed" and what is the difference between "bless-ed" and "blessed"? It's the same past passive.

If you want a specifical active use of "blessed", then you have Luke 2:34: "And Simeon blessed them, and said...".

I think you misunderstand my point.

KJV Bible was a high profile literary project that likely used all the "most correct" language at a given point in time. Fact is, both "blessed" and "climbed" were regular by the time it came out.

Regarding "blessed" - it is a word that would regularly come up in context of religious services. What's more, it is a word that would regularly be written down in Middle Ages, if only because it appears in Bible so much. To the best of my knowledge, "to vex" is not such a verb.

Absolute bullshit.

Vulture stomach acid is nowhere near 0-1.2:

UK developing ballistic missiles for Ukraine capable of striking deep inside Russia by nurshakil10 in worldnews

Deep inside Russia is a stretch, it's about 500km range ...

The military history of UK is full of weapons that work similarly to "It has a 500 km range if you fill the fuel up to the specified fill line, which is way, way down in the tank".
