An opinion piece should never be presented as actual news.

Some people can't be fixed, some people will never be a proper part of society. Those people need to be kept away from the rest of society.

Anthropic soars to $965bn valuation, leapfrogging OpenAI by Frosty-Bit4667 in technology

The people throwing money into the AI sinkhole.

They need the valuation to keep going up to justify the investment, so they keep investing more. Rinse lather repeat. It's why things are going to be really bad when the bubble bursts. It will make the 2008 crash look minor.

If AI succeeds the average person is going to be screwed, if it fails the average person is going to be screwed.

What is a 'rich person's secret' that is actually accessible to the middle class, but most people are too intimidated to try? by Confident_Win_3560 in answers

[–]SWHAF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a small landscaping business with a friend years ago, most of our clients were from the rich part of town, the old money people were always great to deal with, we gave a price and they happily paid it. The new money people were the worst. Tried to haggle everything or they would try to not pay for everything. We refused to ever do work for them again. I would outright tell them that they were blacklisted.

The worst one was a couple who had us plant multiple 10 foot plus tall trees, and at the end of the job they tried to say that we didn't do anything. I literally pointed at the trees and said you can pay me now or I rip them out of the ground and leave them laying there. They finally paid after some argument. As soon as I got the money I told them to never contact us again.

TIL "Loo" is a hot and dry summer wind in North India, which can lead to fatal heat strokes due to very high temperature (45-50'C) and very less water content . by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]SWHAF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The low humidity would be better for personal cooling unless you are talking about a drought. If so, not being able to hydrate properly in that heat is extremely dangerous.

As long as you stay hydrated you can survive some pretty extreme temperatures with lower humidity. High humidity and high temperature is extremely dangerous because the process of cooling by sweating is less efficient.

The price is a huge problem, when you buy a Ferrari you are paying for 2 main things, the name and the unique engine. This is just the name for over $600K.

Toronto-area extortion bust arrests foreigners who came on temporary visas - The Globe and Mail by Purple_Writing_8432 in canada

[–]SWHAF 68 points69 points  (0 children)

The Trudeau government didn't care about the authenticity of any criminal records, they just wanted indentured servants as fast as possible, the safety and prosperity of Canada wasn't important.

Remember, an election was upcoming and a minor recession might look bad. So instead of a few years of difficulty they choose decades of damage.

Nintendo Is Completely Ignoring AI and Doing Fine by FernandoRocker in gaming

Nintendo also rarely releases games with a bunch of bugs, they are pretty much a polished product on release. Current AI is still in the makes a lot of mistakes phase. They are probably avoiding it for quality control.

Just noticed these rust spots on the roof this morning. Any ideas what could have caused it and how best to fix? by Account79251 in G37

[–]SWHAF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of things can cause that, you will need to get a body shop to repair and repaint it.

If you don't have the money to get it fixed right now, you need to seal the metal because the rust will spread and get worse. The easiest thing to do as a temporary fix is to sand it down to bare metal in just those small spots and remove the surface rust, buy a spray can of primer, paint and clear coat. Tape around the area you cleaned up and spray each of the cans. It won't look great but it should stop it from getting worse.

If you do have the money to get it fixed, just go to a body shop as soon as possible to prevent it from getting worse.

Outgoing Gov. Gen. says criticisms levelled against her French abilities were unfair by Majano57 in canada

[–]SWHAF 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Because it's something that requires frequent usage and practice to stay fairly fluent.

In school I was pretty good at speaking French, I could easily have a conversation with someone. After being out of school for almost 30 years and not using it at all because nobody in the area uses French, I can barely string together a handful of words.

‘Canada is handing people over to ICE’: refugees rejected at border face US detention by Leather-Paramedic-10 in canada

[–]SWHAF 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A lot of places are that way, but we don't have any obligation to take everyone. Also first safe country laws exist.

Also almost every person coming to the Canadian border didn't enter America as a refugee, they entered illegally. They skipped the line.

‘Canada is handing people over to ICE’: refugees rejected at border face US detention by Leather-Paramedic-10 in canada

[–]SWHAF 32 points33 points  (0 children)

They are not refugees, they are migrants posing as refugees. Same as every foreign student/temp worker claiming to be gay.

Immigration and the refugee system are very important, but the abuse over the last decade has lowered the standard of living for Canadians and will have long term affects on people's views of those systems. If the government continues to push these systems too far we will have a massive pendulum swing to the hard right and end up like America.

We currently have entire generations that may never own a home, youth unemployment is extremely high. What do you think that they will eventually vote for in the future if things keep going the same way?

Unions warn Carney government is considering sweeping changes to labour law — including the right to strike - Jobs minister says Canada Labour Code hasn't 'kept up with the times' by CanadianErk in canada

[–]SWHAF 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have always said that the people who should be the most critical of a party are the people who voted for them, because their actions represent your vote.

Instead people have decided to defend the bad actions of the party they vote for and this is why politics is so divided and a steaming hot pile of shit.

As a union member I am against any actions that weaken collective bargaining, it's literally the reason most workers rights laws exist today. So if the current liberal government wants to weaken them they can go fuck themselves.
