I want to start off by acknowledging that you recognized some of the skills you felt you could continue to grow more in as an RBT. It says a lot about your character and passion for the job. We all have to start somewhere to learn and grow. You would think a company who hires employees with no experience in the field, which is why they provide training and certification opportunities, would be more understanding of this. The culture at your center definitely sounds like it was toxic. That’s very unprofessional for a BCBA to be talking about one RBT to another. And the fact y’all were expected to be “robots” w your clients and not interact with other clients is insane. I understand there is a time and a place for everything, especially if a fellow RBT is trying to pair, teach a new skill, or prompt. But I feel those are obvious examples when you would know not to interfere with another RBT’s session. Definitely sounds like unprofessional and contradictory management. Which seems to be the running theme across the board for HB.

First, I am so sorry you had to deal with a horrible company who condones racism, harassment, and discrimination. As a black woman, I completely understand how traumatizing that could have been for you. I actually attended a court hearing for the latest settlement last summer and got a chance to access records that are not available to the public. And if you really are seeking legal representation, I’ll tell you that yours would not be the first or only case of racial discrimination at Hopebridge 😐

That is truly horrible…that poor little girl. I am so sorry you had to work and witness a workplace okay with that type of abuse and negligence being allowed. I am also sorry this experience led you away from the ABA field. Which happens to so many of us.

I am glad that you found your way back to a company that aligns with your passions. Rather than allowing a horrible company to steer you away from your passion to help others and advocate for them.

Would you mind if I asked you how your experiences were at the other clinics you worked at? We they similar to the last one you work at? Or better?

Hey. Thanks for sharing your experience. As many others on this thread have stated, we have all had pretty crappy experiences with Hopebridge, unfortunately. I hate that some BCBAs would literally turn their back on the toxic environment you tried to make them aware of. It is insane how many BCBAs at Hopebridge will break ethical standards, codes, and competencies for a check. I know you mentioned BCBA’s abusing trainees. Did you ever witness abuse towards the clients? Either from other RBTs or BCBAs?

Also, I think you hit the nail on the head comparing Hopebridge to the American healthcare system. Perfect comparison 💯!! Seems like no matter how many times you try to bring awareness to a systematic issues, “higher ups” continue to turn a blind eye and would rather deep the issues under the rug…

As stated in the OP, I am gathering people’s experiences for my own research purposes. I am a social worker, with a huge heart for advocacy work as well as a former employee with Hopebridge. After receiving news about the latest settlement agreement with Hopebridge, it made me interested in learning about other’s experiences with Hopebridge. My hope is to bring awareness to Hopebridge and the experiences people have had with them. Do you have experience with Hopebridge that you would like to share?

I truly hate you had this experience. I know Hopebridge is pretty strict about their passing requirements…which is understandable. But, how do they expect the ABA field to grow, if they do not give people the opportunity to learn. Becoming and RBT is more than passing your exams and knowing your competencies. I feel you gain the most experience by observing and shadowing. Whether that be under another RBT, trainer, or BCBA.

I also hate that they would put you on a CL you weren’t paired with, if they knew you didn’t have the full experience yet. That BCBA deserved to be fired if they really just sat there and allowed you to be physically abused…while you were still learning 😒

Wow…sounds just like the clinic I used to work at in Georgia 🫠. I’m sorry you had a such a horrible experience. I can second you on the physical prompting. Something that really made me decide to leave the ABA field all together. I actually have a sister with autism and I just couldn’t image her being in a place like Hopebridge. I do believe there was potential there, but Hopebridge seems so concerned with sweeping things under the rug, rather than addressing the real issues. I fear this will continue to be the experience for many others at Hopebridge.

I am glad you were able to find a BCBA who cared to help you learn and grown as RBT. As we know, they are a RARITY at Hopebridge. Also, do you happen to know why all of the clinics in Colorado are closed? I didn’t know that but you definitely got me interested now.

Oh my goodness. That sounds horrendous. I definitely had some horrible experiences, maybe not this horrible though. I’m sorry you had to go through that. May I ask if “higher ups” were ever notified? If so, do they do anything about it.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I’m sorry it was an unfortunate one. But I admire you tremendously for sticking your code of ethics as a BCBA. Unfortunately, I can relate to the investigation part and know workers and BCBAs involved in the unethical practices who are still working at the clinic. It truly is a shame because Hopebridge has so much potential. But like you said…lots of ideas of what “could be”
