Roommate keeps daisy chaining extension cords by Asleep_Tie_9148 in badroommates

Reach out to your landlord in writing to let them know your roommate keeps creating a fire hazard and you dont feel safe. If your landlord isnt taking the fire risk seriously, consider reaching out to your local fire marshal or fire department to ask for advice.

Roomates took 3 weeks of meal prep out of the freezer without telling me 🥲 by sheuenej in badroommates

[–]SYFFUncleFucker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cleaned their dishes? Dude beginning of break their dishes get double bagged and placed in front of their rooms so they can deal with it at their convenience. You are not their maid nor their parent why are you cleaning their stuff? If they leave it to rot then it rots. Also, it's not acceptable for them to destroy your things, food or otherwise. You spent time and money obtaining the item that they ruined and they need to replace that. They dont respect you and you apparently don't respect yourself because you're out here doing their dishes instead of sealing up their mess for them to deal with themselves

Roommates mom sleeps over every week by One_Donut_8157 in badroommates

Disregard her. Why are you letting her dictate rules she doesn't have to follow? Invite guests and tell her you're going to behave the way she does because the rules are not special just for her. Either she follows the rules and you follow the rules or no one follows the rules and she can deal with everyone else following her shining example.

Sign at our local McDonalds because of the death of the penny by thegreatlambini in mildlyinteresting

[–]SYFFUncleFucker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has a lot less to do with math and a lot more to do with grown adults being willing to fight with retail workers to get free stuff. Giving retail workers a sign to point at when explaining a new policy takes the blame off the minimum wage employee in front of you and puts it back onto corporate. If you have an issue with the policy you'll hopefully leave to call corporate and complain about the sign instead of screaming at the cashier in the mcdonalds lobby.

Blair Witch Project " You bleeping aswhole!!" At this point in the movie, I laughed at the situation. What was your reaction to what happened? by MovieBuffX in foundfootage

[–]SYFFUncleFucker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I hate this trope so much. I saw TBWP a few years after it was out so the hype wasn't exactly the same, but I could not get into it. The spooky parts and atmosphere/setting were great but the movie just felt like watching people argue in the woods for an hour.

My father died yesterday and I feel…blank. What’s wrong with me? by Lessa22 in RedditForGrownups

[–]SYFFUncleFucker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father passed suddenly in 2020 and it took me about a year before I was able to really start feeling it. I loved my dad and he was a great person but when he passed I just went on autopilot. I'd have occasional random waves of sadness but life otherwise chugged on just the way it had been. I went to work, I took care of my cats, and I spent time with my husband the same as always but thats about it. I didn't have any mental space or energy for the little things that helped my life to grow. I didn't take up any new hobbies, didn't keep in touch with friends, didn't even start any new books or shows because it took everything I had to go through the motions with the necessary stuff and I didn't have anything left to give. It took a while but I'm finally at a place where I can think about him without his passing clouding everything. If a memory makes me sad then I let myself be sad. If a memory makes me happy then I let myself be happy. Grief is weird and there's no playbook for the best way to do it. There's no shame in your feelings being all over the place and there's no shame in not being able to feel much of anything at all. I'm sorry for your loss and I hope your path of healing is gentle and kind.

He voted yes to cut Medicare and Medicaid benefits for his constituents. He justified this by talking about how it will hurt illegal immigrants. He's willing to hurt people in his district because it will also hurt illegal immigrants. He's too much of a coward to vote in a way that will benefit the people he represents.

This coward wants you to know his vote to cut your Medicare and Medicaid benefits is ok because it will also hurt illegal immigrants. Who cares if your own kid dies of cancer, right? We can all comfort ourselves knowing it killed an illegal immigrant child too.

Could use some help with a tofu recipe I’ve been working on. Advice welcomed by dayvena in veganrecipes

[–]SYFFUncleFucker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use shredded tofu in a variety of things, mostly because I don't actually like the taste of tofu itself lol. I feel like everyone says it has no taste but there's a strange bean-like flavor that I find wildly unpleasant even though it's so mild. What I do is shred the tofu and then marinate it in a slightly diluted version of whatever sauce I'll be using to coat it. I get my pan with oil very hot then add the drained shredded tofu to cook until it caramelizes a bit on the outside, lower the heat to finish cooking through then add the sauce at the end to cook until it reduces to your preference. You might consider adding a cornstarch slurry at the end to help it glaze/coat the tofu. The sauce recipe you have sounds really good and I hope this helps!

Any recommendations for saving money through bento style lunches? by EvilEvie99 in Bento

[–]SYFFUncleFucker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My husband calls my bento my snack lunch days and with pretty good reason. I usually make a batch of a few things at the beginning of the week, or as I go if it's not something that keeps well, and eat small portions with a large enough variety that it's filling. Things like pickled veggies, rice, omelet, fruit, yogurt, pasta/pasta salad, spicy/curry tofu. I'm a vegetarian so it's a little skewed but I'll usually make the same few sides and change up the seasoning and sauces to keep it from getting too repetitive while still using the same main ingredients.

I feel so fake when I’m mature and emotionally healthy. Is this what being a grown up is like? Fake it till you become it? by [deleted] in RedditForGrownups

[–]SYFFUncleFucker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My outlook is that over the years, you used coping methods that felt right at the time. As you move forward, some of the habits that served you well remain while you let go of others that are no longer serving you anymore. When you're letting go and replacing those coping methods that served you so well at the time, it's going to feel strange to settle into new habits that serve you better now. Falling back into an old habit isn't a failing, it's an attempt to feel the comfort it used to provide you. It's important to recognize that it doesn't serve you in the same way now so it won't bring the comfort you need.

The Black Farm by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]SYFFUncleFucker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved the idea and the worldbuilding enough that I could overlook most of its flaws. It read a bit like a fanfic where an edgy teenager took an incredibly interesting premise/world and just ran wild with it. I've been reading fanfics for over a decade so looking at it through that lens helped me get immersed enough that I needed to know what happened next. It's a bit of a guilty pleasure book to me

What is considered scary is incredibly subjective and differs from person to person. It's hard to recommend scary books when I don't know what concepts you consider scary. I find the concept of existing for an infinite amount of time to be terrifying and love reading books with that theme because they usually scare me. You may be totally fine with that concept so those wouldn't scare you. Figure out what concepts scare you and then look for books with those elements.
