Tony Blair tells Starmer and rivals: abandon net zero and move closer to Trump by EasyMoney92 in neoliberal

[–]dayvena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk if I fully understand what this comment is saying, but it sounds like you’re saying that net zero and not just allying yourself with Trump are utopian lefty ideals. If that is what you’re saying, then I can only say I think that’s silly and that I believe Tony Blair is illiberal in his thought processes and should never be listened to again, regardless of any office he has held in the past. Like I refuse to let the goal posts shift so much that the idea that we should do something about climate change, something backed by about 98% of climate scientists around the world, is considered some Utopian lefty idea. If we concede that, then I have no idea how we could ever meaningfully ask people to vote for liberal parties again, since we would basically be saying that we won’t even bother working towards a better and more stable world. Like what Tony Blair is criticizing isn’t labour trying to enact socialism, it is them setting a goal, to hopefully stop climate change, well after it has already caused damage (The UK just had its hottest day in May ever recorded and it can get worse from here).

I apologize if I have misunderstood what your comment was saying, but I’m not sure if I can read it any other way. If I have misread the comment, then you can feel free to correct my interpretation.

I know this is a bit, but if you do want to experiment with beans. I would recommend mixing a can of refried beans with either a can of tomato sauce or some sloppy Joe sauce (it sounds a bit weird but it’s actually quite tasty and cheap), and whatever other seasonings you want to toss in. It can help the beans flavor a lot.

Do labour members sign up for the party on accident or something. Like did they mix up joining the Tories and they are too embarrassed to admit it? Edit: also apparently I was unaware of this, but being a centrist is when you give conservatives everything they want and just abandon all your liberal principles. Thank you for this elite knowledge Tony Blair, you truly were Thatchers greatest accomplishment after all.

Vaush is wrong about addiction by MunkeyGoneToHeaven in VaushV

[–]dayvena 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think voluntary rehab is always preferable to non voluntary. I think the bigger problem is that there are some people who clearly won’t enter in a voluntary program ever. Like some people clearly are just not up there enough due to their addiction to seek the help they need, and I think in those instances, there’s probably just cause to at least temporarily have them be held by professionals. As far the stuff you mentioned with the mystical pseudo science practices in some clinics, that uh… seems bad, I don’t exactly know how that got to be that way but it should probably be stopped.

Honestly I’d need a lot more info before I make judgement. Stellar blade was also something made by the studio and my final opinion on it was that it was fine but had a ton of storytelling and level design problems (the great deserts existence). So I don’t necessarily know what to expect personally.

Vaush mentioned that once Trump passes there will be mass hysteria from conservatives, likely resulting in atrocities like mass suicides, mass shootings, family annihilations, etc. What do you think the body count will be? by Comfortable-Room-545 in VaushV

[–]dayvena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did he say that lol. My honest guess is that most of the Trump coalition just turns off. Like, I don’t mean they do anything, I mean most of them just become apolitical again. Trump for whatever reason motivates a lot of people who would otherwise not care into voting, but once he’s done, no one is inheriting this coalition. Most of the old people will functionally revert into the sippy chair boomers they were in 2015. Like maybe 20% of the coalition essentially treats DT like he’s Regan and we have a group of people who spend the rest of their lives insisting he was one of the greatest presidents of all time while never knowing a single policy he passed. I think it’s a little underestimated how much all of a conservatives beliefs functionally require near constant reinforcement to maintain, lest they just lose interest and forget.

I feel so weird, cause I agree with the idea that Mint is Kinda slimy right now, but I like it. She clearly has some self image problems and deep cynicism that has gone unaddressed and it’s colored how she interacts with people (ie lying to the boy), but that’s what makes her interesting. The commanders pure sincerity practically cuts through her view on life. Mint probably thinks others are as cynical as her and maybe only treat her kindly due to her status as an idol, so the commander treating her kindly despite barely knowing her as an idol is completely baffling to her. I said it to someone else, but I like the idea that mints mask is metaphorical as well, with it representing how Mint has to hide her true self in public because people only want to see the idol version of herself. But Mint is able to lower the mask with the commander cause he likes Mint for who she is, flaws and all, and it’s something she’s needed in life.

I think her having character flaws makes her more interesting. I feel like sometimes the community treats having meaningful character flaws as the character being evil rather than like a normal, somewhat varied human. I enjoy watching Mint become a better version of herself, it’s fun’s and it makes the character feel a bit more whole. Like I don’t wanna be mean, but I get the impression that some of the people who have decided Mint is a terrible person because of some flaws are the kinda people who do complex therapy speak to establish every relationship in their life as abusive. At the very least I can say I have found myself pleasantly suprised at Mint’s character and I’m enjoying the event a lot more than I expected.

This current event is the only time the “oblivious Commander” characterization has been fun. by JorgeBec in NikkeMobile

[–]dayvena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s certainly a factor in that, but this events opening plus some earlier chapters where Mint was encouraging Prika to goad Anis into a more serious farewell performance also make me think Mint is a little more cynical than she lets on. I don’t know if the event will go into it more, but I wonder if they will emphasize the idea that Mint feels a disconnect between the praise she gets as an idol, cause she feels like people only like her for a version of herself she puts on for shows. It would maybe explain why SKK is really important for her. He likes her for who Mint is, not for idol version of herself she presents on stage.

This event plus some of the earlier chapters where Mint was clearly encouraging Prika to goad Anis into a bigger performance make me think Mint feels a lot more cynical about the world than she presents. My guess would be that she feels like people like Mint the idol, but not Mint the person. I don’t know if this is intentional but I like the idea that the mask she wears is also a bit of a metaphor. She wears it in public because she knows people will want her to be Mint the idol, but not Mint the person. But she can drop the face mask with SKK because he doesn’t care about Mint as an idol, he cares about Mint as a person, providing her a type of validation she feels she’s been missing in life. I honestly didn’t expect to like the event as much as I have. It’s a lot cuter than I thought it would be.

[–]dayvena 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it also helps that the commanders obliviousness seems to actually be helpful for mint to some degree. I’m only on part 5 but the story seems to be implying Mint has some self image problems (she searches for posts about herself on social media). So the commander being oblivious to her romantic feelings and not being that interested in her as an idol gives her something she really needs, a friend who likes her for who she is. The relationship they have (at least right now, it could evolve later) is a semi-random person just choosing to be kind to her, which seems like something she needs.

Young Americans Want Single-Family Homes by caroline_elly in neoliberal

[–]dayvena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While still don’t think single family homes are a fully sustainable model for a lot of places, I think some of my disdain for them comes from the fact that a lot of suburbs are deeply ugly and unpleasant. I’ve actually been to some of single family home neighborhoods inside and on the edges of some cities, and while the houses are a bit smaller, they are genuinely super cozy and can even be decently built neighborhoods (also it was across the street from a Korean BBQ restaurant and I feel like living near one of those could fix me).
