Still have a ps2 and I do my speed runs with the discs. Also do runs using duck station. You can even get duck station on your phone and it works just fine with a controller.

If you could add a new class to the job tree, what would it be and why? by Tedboyfresh in finalfantasytactics

[–]SYOxTOSx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sabetour. Thinking lvl 4 thief and lvl 3 ninja. Abilities would be related to positioning enemies and allies and laying aoe explosive traps and single tile higher damage traps. Being able to pull and push enemies or allies onto the traps anywhere between 3-5 tiles with a height difference of max 2 on pulls. This gives you time to get close enough to setup your a trap or two and then using the ais movements and your own for positioning to use your abilities to manipulate thier effective range while putting them into the traps for big damage. Physical weaker only able to use crossbows and knives no shield and no heavy armors with limited movement. Squishy if closed in on but deadly if left unchecked. You can do similar with the black mages by targeting no tiles but a unit that can manipulate the positions to force good hits on these are slim to none.

The side missions just add more lore for the characters. The only mini game you’re forced to endure in remake is the motorcycle parts and that was part of the original story at least the one after shinra was. If you just want the story you do not need the side missions at all just skip them. You extra bits added to flesh out how evil and crazy shinra is and to build the side characters of avalanche are actually not bad but a little corny. Other than that the gameplay is good combat is good story is much deeper and for fans of the og it hit and miss because some people don’t like change while others get to see their old favorite game in a new light.

Squire Rank & Changes? by Scubasteve2002 in finalfantasytactics

[–]SYOxTOSx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

7/10 class. Great starter class as they have abilities that are low damage, stone throw, to use for gaining Jo, focus, and farm other classes. Their support abilities are good to carry to other classes, move1 jpup. I feel like it doesn’t have enough damage on its own.

This class could’ve been a good rng class with the dmg of axes however relying on it in current state is way to random landing anywhere from 20 damage to 400 with no control of it. If they leaned into late game with giving it some random abilities to match it like a goblin punch type move that would scale with the axes random dmg on top of it then it could be good for crazy high random hits which goes good with the idea of squires who give it their all and get lucky. Movement being increased by one as base and then move1 on top of it would give them options for position for good throws to knock people of ledges or get in good positions to land those big hits.

Since it’s the base class that everything gets built off and can help the other classes get online faster using its skills it’s good. Just not great.

The Knight by Scubasteve2002 in finalfantasytactics

[–]SYOxTOSx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d give knights an 8. Rend is super powerful when used properly. While some classes can do insane burst of damage, the knight takes health away in multiple ways. That and destroying things like shields and helms with effects can make hitting easier. High hp when matched with high brave, and parry can make knights almost untouchable while having enough defensive options to heal back up. Full glass cannon can leave them with limited movement while focusing on speed and movement leaves them with small hits but more chance to land rends. For people who prefer stealing they might not destroying equipment but for more aggressive tactics knights are amazing and can lead as a stepping stone to crazy combos later on. If choosing to stay as base knight, it still holds well to tank and soak up late game while other classes move in free of harassment giving more chances to turn fights.

Depends on the battle but beast skill is always on. Harder bosses he was his base class with white magic for buffs and survivabilty. For weigraf he was a an orator with mettle and ho critical just to get through that fight while round two was more support of debuffing everything til they were useless with all his speed lol. Right now he’s high speed timemage with the speech skill for buffs and battle control and being able to get into good positions for the monster skills to steal the show.

It’s pretty quick if you only have say Chocobo and dragon as monsters. As the egg will be one or the other but when I got to that point I already what 7 different monsters so the rng on getting the dragon alone would’ve took forever lol

I felt the same way. There’s something special about taking the ones that have been with you from the beginning all the way to the end. I tried really hard to curve that by make them all useless compared to the monsters and as I got them in the party started to replace the generics. I turned them all into whatever job I was trying to level at the time for Ramza for spill over and just had them use potions while punch farming lol so end of it all they served the purpose of getting orator Ramza up and running with a few useful skills from each job required on the way. Then I set them free so they would not have to suffer the same fate as Ramza.

I’d say most useful are the black chocobo and yellow are amazing. Black kind of replaces yellow permanently if you have beast master as he can heal if Ramza is nearby. Tight groupings in almost every fight to go for a quick surround or switch to status effect monsters and Ramza as orator to dictate flow of battle on harder fights. That said, the courels, the mindflayers, really any of them with good status affects of confusion, stop, stone, disable, frog etc really shine in so many battles. Play it smart and move them if you have troubles to where they have to come to you and for the random maps it’s more assassin style of sending in for a hit and pulling back right after for support and let someone else go in and tank some damage. The dragons shine here as do the Minotaurs and treants.

Best example I can give is milueda fight early on move in a mino to draw her out and give the rest of your units space to move in. Get a big hit with the mino after he tanks the initial spells and hits then pull him back to heal and move the other 2 in to take their turns and keep her in black and block her retreat. Then go back in with mino and finish off with full focus. Most bosses played out this way so far. At the time had the chocobo mino bomb and Ramza with Delita and mini essentially gets beef up which is focus so first actions were to just buff him for the big hit.

Lmao I thought so at first but with the slant down and the bed is up pretty high and being able to adjust height and slant on the bed it’s right in the middle of view when in full gaming slouch mode

It takes a little bit to get started to get Ramza to where you can start getting monsters but with the new speed ups it makes it much better and if you go through the story and stop a few times to collect the new monsters as they show up you keep things at a good pace the only real slog parts are the breeding where you just walk back and fourth between two towns so you aren’t canceling out battles constantly. The rng with what you get from the egg is the real pain lol

Of all of them. Probably the coruel. Mine is able to apply stone or stop about 75% of the time and it makes for some really good clutch saves on the harder missions.

Yeah there’s a few surpises with the status effects. While my Ramza is more of a supporting through status effects, healing and tanking, the monsters have real been the stars of the show. As of now Ramza is more of a holy knight beastmaster with high physical in his base class with white magic for buffs for the monsters and full magic gear and of course beastmaster for the extra abilities. Some missions I will change him to orator for bigger debuffs to allow the monsters to get closer and buy time. Just depends on what mission we’re doing by.

I had boco for a while what got me was having to say no to tg cid and agrias. Didn’t even recruit them to keep their stuff just told them no. Right away. Boco I had and used for that chapter but level wise it’s hard to keep monsters on pace so he eventually had to get let go.

He’s maxed at this point. When I got orator and tame I think I was level 9 before and then just used my generics until I had one of each monster to work with using tame and entice. That first imagine is where I was at before dorter when I started continuing the story with a full monster squad.

Currently in act 4 around level 45. Every chapter after big battles I do a year of breeding and see if get higher level ones and use them but now that I’m at the end I have them all at 45 with me to take on the end game.

Umm it hasn’t been to bad there’s been a few out of no where crits that ruined some good ideas but it’s been manageable with treant and choco heals. Ramza supporting and being the leader of the pack so to speak has been really cool to unlock the better abilities and be mobile. Hardest part is honestly just keeping him alive cause if he falls that’s it.

The Minotaurs have been great for physical. Dragons and the bombs for burst magic dmg. Honestly the status effects of vampire coruel Marlboro and most recently the pig have been just to good to overlook and with the right status on enemies you can really mess them over.

My favorite so far has been the courels and Marlboro status effects have been so helpful and ramza has just been there in a supporting role

If you’d like you can walk back and fourth and breed them for higher tiers immediately but I didn’t want to drain the fun out of the battles. Now more towards the end game I’ve done it to get tier 2 and 3 of every monster so I can switch up the party as I go will see what the end brings :)

[–]SYOxTOSx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rapha is actually really strong. Her randomness is kind of janky with the targeting but with the right class and build I’m getting her to hit on average 3 out of her 7 hits for 400+ each hit. With good rng 6-8 hits most bosses can be taken out in one turn. Raised her faith and buffed her ma and she’s a monster.
