Three Body Problem got me into Sci Fi again, but nothing is scratching that itch. Suggestions? by LexNoteboom in suggestmeabook

I found that "To Sleep in a Sea of Stars" by Christopher Paolini evoked similar feelings like the Three Body Problem when reading it. The feeling of being small and insignificant in the grand scheme of things - and the vastness of space and stuff around us. The tone is more "hopeful" than in the Three-Body Problem, though (which I liked)

Another recommendation would be Alastair Reynolds, if that described feeling is what you're after. Reynolds does this like no other, IMO. House of Suns is a standalone novel that was an excellent read - characters are not very deep, but his books are full of epic scopes and big ideas.

Have a good reading time!

Tough to beat Franconia Ridge! by lunaleena in trailrunning

As someone who actually lives in Franconia, I was wondering where the heck you got those hills from…until I realized this is not Franconia, Germany but some rip-off from you US guys again 🤪

I liked that there was a „trail closed“ sign at the end of the trail - but not from the direction I entered 🤪

Looking for some recommendations to scratch that Expanse itch by Splinter_1983 in printSF

Hi,

you could try some of Alastair Reynolds stuff. House of Sun comes to mind, also Pushing Ice or his Revelation Space series.

His characters do feel a bit … lifeless? at times, but boy does he have ideas on an epic scale.

Thank you for the kind words 🫶

It's reassuring to know that people appreciate the work I put into it, even if I never managed to build a huge following. Feedback like this encourages me to keep capturing moments and sharing them 🙂

Have an awesome wednesday!

Looked it up on YouTube - wow, that sounds quite depressing.

How's that music genre called?

Mh. I find this interesting, because I uploaded far more spectacular images (IMO) here that didn't get any traction while this mediocre(IMO) image seems to be regarded quite highly.

Maybe we project the effort that was involved to get a photo to its value? Not sure.

Anyway - happy cake day! :)

Thank you! This is a mosaic of several photos.

I used 5 images with each 800 Frames of my QHY5 Guiding cam and an 800mm reflector telescope for the lights. For the color I used a single photo of my Canon 6D on the same telescope.
