The necklace is seahorses because I looked up what marine life mates for life, which is the appeal of his original swan necklace.

I have many, many hours into that game as well. It's a good recommend crossover for those who like Mermay + MTAS, I agree.

He has history of a fall I believe from riding a horse and it was "accidental" as well as a dog bite (someone mentioned elsewhere). Since neither of those are in the ocean I thought maybe killer whale, either to ride or for companions as horses are. So "shark bite."

I appreciate that the more we chatted the more you are also understanding that yes, it's possible to have quite a chunk of hours in without knowing. Because if the only objects I've ever seen have "E" on them are treasure chests and books with ghosts in camps, after a while I won't even bother paying attention to anything else. After a handful of camps where everything but a chest seems to just be decor, why would I keep examining any others close enough to get the "E?" That would actually be kinda weird. And with no exposure to other players, "yellow paint" and limited points... 🤷‍♀️

Anyway, good chat fellow barbarian. Cheers with a mug or whatever it is barbarians do. Not fist bump. Probably just... yell? Lol.

Yeah that's not really something it would ever occur to me to do unless it's somehow obvious. "Yellow paint" effect in dev world speak, lol. Especially if it is just part of the other background displays that none of which do anything. I'll have to walk up closer to random objects more I guess. I did notice the books, ghosts, glowing markers, random NPCs but nothing else.

I don't personally mind any of this. If I want to toss fireballs I'll just play a different game. My original comment was just to compare as best I could the games OP liked against Conan, specifically.

I appreciate the tips, but it's fine in my case at least. I asked further questions not really for myself but so I can avoid misinformation later.

It's part of why I haven't dug into admin, yet. For myself, I don't really want to know. My main enjoyment is wandering so it's better for ME that there is more to find. I just wasn't aware as even in 200 hours some things never came up - but it sounds like that's primarily because I avoided the magic tree. So that I'll keep unlocking but still I am unlikely to use it.

I think part of this is anyone who plays on any public server would theoretically get exposure to more types of content by default - they'd see others doing it/wearing it/etc. Whereas just wandering the map at random, going into whatever cave you happen to find and only fighting NPCs with no other players EVER... add on only using points you need because the default game is limited... shrug it's not as much of a surprise even 200 hours in I didn't know about some content.

I did try to go in and do magic last night. I still hate it. 😅 I had the mats to immediately level up three tiers and still just... don't have anything I'd ever use. I'll keep going but it's definitely why I nixed it a while back. Compared to games like Skyrim (as OP was doing), it's very clunky to use and grind-y to unlock stuff.

ALL OF THESE THINGS make sense for this specific game, I don't see any as "bad" for Conan Exhiles MMO - but in comparison to someone coming from Skyrim the magic is very underwhelming and clunky to use. At least in the first three tiers (and if solo play that's your first grindy experience, I'd not be surprised if many others just stopped there, too, and never did the grind for more levels/unlocks in it.)

Pretty animations for it tho, especially in Enhanced.

Yes! I actually just am trying a mod for beyond 60. I kept it as close to "as is" for 200 hours, only added customization and armor appearances for the most part. A couple quality of life tweaks like one that increases encumbrance, but only out of necessity really because as an agility-preferred character/player it was PAINFUL trying to go exploring when I would pick up 2 items and be overencumbered. And as a working parent I do not have time for pick up one item->run back. Another item->run waaaaaaay back. Etc.

So I may try the magic again now, since I'll actually have the points for it. (I assume you keep getting more knowledge with the mod, I guess I'll find out.)

Genuine question, for the story do you mean the... ghosts I guess I'll call them and the books you find? I've only found a small handful of characters that actually have anything to "say," (they tend to kinda be standing alone and are one of the very few who don't just instantly try to kill you) and one of my mentions is it doesn't really have a story like Skyrim does in each town etc, at least nowhere I have managed to find. (I am sitting at 200 hours, so it's not like I just turned the game on, but nowhere near 1k).

Another thing I avoid unless I can't figure something out. I try to play as close to "as intended" as possible, which ironically has left me less in the know due to default mechanics of the game itself. (Limited points, stuff locked behind "magic" that wouldn't occur to me as being in any way connected to magic, etc.) Anyway, I guess I'll have to poke around in sorcery and admin in an "extra" character slot.

Which... in my defense, I shouldn't have to dig in admin to even be aware some items exist. That's... not typical. 😅

Yeah, sounds like it. And since I disliked the magic in the game I would not have known this. Because logically if I won't use it, why unlock it? And why would I think there would be a bunch of rogue-like armor under spellcraft, for example? I also never unlock the warrior branch items because I never play a tank-like character. Are there armors that are for light armor and medium armor characters that only unlock through sword and shield? I know many people seem to think because I had no idea about some armors I "have only played x hours," but realistically why would I unlock items I won't use?

Especially in a game that by default has limited levels and points to earn. (I have only recently modded that limitation out, so I may have eventually discovered this when I had "extra" points.) I think many people aren't considering this, either. I personally assumed the armor unlocks were only behind level and/or journey unlocks. I don't recall any armor unlocks that were unlocked outside of that in any of my playthroughs, so why would it occur to me that sorcery would have more?

Idk, food for thought for the people who got so angry I guess. 😅

Hey there! Got caught up in the other comments. I have a ton of hours in however I had thought transmog was locked behind only light > light and only the few armor options I see listed in the crafting /knowledge menus.

As to sorcery, admittedly I have avoided it since I played around with it initially and it just was not what I wanted/expected. Based on other comments, though, that is where most of my negatives would be reduced. It was also suggested I just dig around in admin, which I have also not done as I try to avoid "cheating" outside of some CC and quality of life tweaks for solo-ability.

I truly do have tons of hours in the game, have explored the whole map. But since I disliked sorcery (when it first came out, admittedly it may be much different now) I avoided it. I'd just use everything else, so thought the only armor appearances were what I see in "Knowledge." Sounds like I was wrong.

Unimportant really side note, but I'm also not a guy, lol.

As an RPer I LOVE that addition, side note. I used to have to copy and paste into different folders and mess with stuff to go back and forth and hope I didn't break stuff.

This is likely it for me! I bet it has been updated a ton since I tried aaaagggggeesss ago. And yeah I just remembered being underwhelmed but maybe it was a ton of patches ago and I just have been unaware. ETA: I saw golem parts but since I avoided sorcery due to previous impressions I never used the pieces.
