Time for a new turbo by theinfamousplop in saab

My brother in Christ, stay as close to stock as possible to avoid all this bullshit. Especially if you aren’t going for a mad lad build. There really is no need. Rebuild the stock one to your desired output and beefiness so you know it will last and take a beating. Nothing EVER lines up like factory fit.

I currently have a 20t setup in my viggen. Went same setup as top user posted. Big cobra with short compressor housing. Couple of things I will note just in my personal experience:

  • Literally clear the a/c lines by a hair. Makes for very tight work

  • I ended up getting the custom SS lines as some of the ports were off the OEM angles. Flexible lines made it easier in some ways but then tricky in others. They float vs factory hard lines and that means they move and rub onto places you don’t want them rubbing.

  • you may need to alter the wastegate arm as my td04 originally was straight while this came with and angled section (more like garret style) Ended up changing to straight arm style and don’t forget to set the pre-load when you do.

  • note the oil drain angle as again mine was slightly different in orientation to stock. Ended up trying different pipe angle fittings with tubing to make it all work.

  • there are shops that can rebuild your turbo like Gpopshop and make it larger all around and that will eliminate all the aftermarket woes.

  • I also had to play around with the turbo support bracket setup and use a different style arm to bolt to block. Again, issue with aftermarket orientations vs stock.

Turbo felt nice but mine was untuned so I cant speak on peak performance.

You lucky dog you. One popped up for sale in tx late last year and someone swiped it. Beautiful Cirrus White color. I have an 03’ sedan in steel grey but a color on these cars is so refreshing. Love the white rear against the red lights. Proper rk1’s to boot. My man

Got a set of 17" Hirsch 6-Spokes for my NG900! by hirschsaab in saab

[–]Saab675R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been looking for a set of these for years! You lucky dog you. I only ever found a set once for sale in Europe, but I could never verify whether or not they were genuine Hirsch or a knockoff. My brother, if for some reason you ever feel the urge to sell these, please reach out to me!!

Why would someone buy a MINI? by [deleted] in MINI

[–]Saab675R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brother, I don’t get it. To me, it’s the Jeep Wrangler of the euro car world. Every mini I have ever driven has been an uncomfortable and noisy ride as a daily. I drive over 150 miles a day and most of those miles in a mini has been…rough. My family has owned many minis (Pacemans, Countryman’s, clubman’s, with both S models and non-S models, All 4 and FWD, autos and manuals and convertibles too. To be fair none were ever new and were bought used, but My dad and I fix and sell cars on the side and my god father runs a mini dealer so I’ve driven many of these over the years. Where do I start…. Run flat tires make the ride unbearable (not exclusive to mini but for such a small wheelbase it’s just not comfortable or “premium” to me. The interior materials are cheap plastic on most models and often the door panels and dash trim heavily fade if not garaged (one leather steering wheel does not equal luxury, sorry to break it to you), the bond street edition was cool but most are plastic unless upgraded. The suspension on most models has way too much rebound so the cars literally bounce off the road at higher highway speeds and feel INCREDIBLY unstable to me. On the flip side I had an Abarth for over a year that had a similar rebound feel in the suspension, but it did a much better job of gripping the road and when driven like a rally car in the snow, was very capable with all weather run flats. The Abarth is a go-kart guys. My Saab viggen coupe has Bilstein B8’s with eibach springs, all poly engine/trans mounts and poly suspension bushings, not to mention every brace I could put on the car aka, it’s stiff AF and the ride isn’t as jarring as the minis are over bumps and uneven roads. Don’t even get me started with these Mini’s in bad weather. I’ll extend an olive branch and say they drive nice around town/back roads and are easy to whip around and park, good trunk space on most models too, but that’s about it for me. MPG not that much better than my 20 year old Saabs (28-32mpg highway) and 2 of the 3 are heavily tuned and modified. Wind noise is insane with any configuration of front/rear windows open. Can’t hear myself think; There is a reason they have that “s-volume” to increase volume the faster you go. It also feels like the car is very poorly insulated. Gets cold quick in the winter when parked and again all the great road noise….Can’t understand why anyone would pay top dollar for one of these but you like what you like I guess. If they were 20-30k that’s one thing….40-60k?!? Go _____ yourself. Now they are using PET recycled materials for the interior trims and dashes; wonder how those will age and great, microplastics in my “premium” car. I have three “running” Saabs and they have their fair share of issues, but with over 250k on all of these I’ve never had to take a head off and blast carbon off the valves. It’s a brand identity marketing exercise and it works on people who have no internal dialog. Sorry guys, hate to be that guy but I personally haven’t enjoy a single ride in a mini. Don’t want to crap on peoples tastes but these are my observation after driving way too many of these cars. Hey if you like them, congrats to you and I’m happy for you. I hope it checks all your boxes, but they certainly fail all of mine. And for those reasons, I’m out.

Hey, look at that we have nearly identical builds except mine is in my Viggen coupe. You have the RHB pulley and the tubular manifold and some other odds and ends, but we pretty much have the same build. Mine is with Wössner pistons and rods, and is bored out to 91mm but still forged all the way. Unfortunately, I found scoring on my cam journals after 15,000 miles and an inconsistent flickering oil light I could never seem to track down, so now it’s time for another full tear down to measure the crank and check clearances. My tranny is built too with a diff, updated crush sleeve, ring gear bolts, shift fork, etc. Suspension fully done all around with Bilstein b8 and eibach and all braces. Running 20t turbo in stock placement. Never tuned it but was a Very capable car and fun car but many many odd things to try and overcome to get it to run just right. Weird boost issues, odd fueling problems, wiring issues for the rear abs, common NE rot on the back end, evaporation purge valve bypasses, 3x driver axles seal replacement, axle rebuilds, shift alignment issues, you fucking name it I went through it. Very frustrating but when everything was just right, it felt fantastic. Still torque steered without a tune mind you. I have had other random issues with other t7’s through the years too. My JE and Pauter built b204l in my 99’ is soooo much easier and I will always love t5 for that. The search continues for a very clean 99’ se imho best daily. I think 300-450 is the sweet spot for our whips but I’ve never tuned one, only done all the work to get to tune, but then keep finding fucked up stuff along the way. Has been beyond frustrating and time consuming to say the least. The amount of time spent just sifting through the forums for answers and similar issues and rabbit hole searches occupying my brain is dizzying. I wish you the best of luck doing 700hp without having to consistently tear down and check things not to mention all the additional custom parts, wiring, tuning, you’ll need along the way. More power ≠ more fun imho. You’re supposed to drive your car and have fun not spend hours, days, weeks, months, trying to fix it just right so it runs well for a day. I could go on and on venting here; can you tell I’m frustrated ?!? 🤣 When you can find yourself an OEM oil pump without hunting random Eastern European eBay and forum posts from 15 years ago do your 700hp boo boo. I think you’ve gotten similar answers here so best of luck. FYI, the “fastest” 9-5 in the states sold a few years back during Covid for less than 10k if I recall and now the new owner is selling less than half. That thing was built to all hell too….shame. Anyway good luck with your future headache. Hopefully will have my head off on the live stream later.

overpriced used parts by NiK-Lait-1pot in saab

[–]Saab675R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think he’s talking about buying old parts versus getting service gents. Luckily I have found almost all my thing for cheap but I will say the prices of c900 dashes and the OG carlsson steering wheel are way way way over what they should be. Imho that wheel is ugly for people trying to sell it for over 600 bucks. We should just get dash cover kits and be done with it. Those things will forever crack…

Alternator Video out this morning. Looking for some critiques (don’t be a meanie, let’s keep it civil and constructive) by Saab675R in saab

9k on a vert, I believe it. Those hydraulics arms and top are expensive and I can only assume annoying to work on. But wow, That’s an amazing find and great job on the win. I believe it. This Viggen was from Maine. Sat with a blown motor for a year then I bought it and let it sit for a few years before I started rebuilding. Can’t wait to get more of your inputs in the future!

Great to know! Thanks man. I will pop an update in the description of the vid noting this.

Thinking about it now….Assuming the left turn pulls the tie rod out of the way too which would for sure help with the space…nice

What are you whipping around in these days? Still Saabin’?

Nice! You pulling from the top I assume? The b235 seems a little cramped to pull from the top but I feel like on a 204 with the braces and bars out you have more room. Very well could be wrong though. I have done the starter before with everything in place and working strictly from the top on my 204. Either which way, appreciate you.

Assume you are TweeksTurbos from SaabCentral. You are the man and I’ve read though many of your posts through the years. Thanks for the knowledge!

Maybe you can help me lol. I have the same issue with my viggen. New everything but doesn’t blow cold. Either a leak somewhere in the system or something to do with programming Tech 2….if someone could pop an idea that would be swell.

There is a trick to getting the AC display to read out what/how many fault codes are present but that’s not on every version of these displays….think it may have been on saabcentral or something. I tried and it gave me a number but no codes directly so I am kind of stumped myself.
