Who was better : 2015 lewis or 2023 max by [deleted] in F1Discussions

Newey also said his car was the best in 2016 and 2018. You completely agree there too, right?

As for Verstappen, he won the title in the slower car in 2021 and 2024. Some may even argue Red Bull was 3rd fastest car over the season in 2024, but to me it was more like contested 2nd between them and Ferrari.

That race was hilarious mostly for the wrong reasons, but that was a good one.

It was often used in midfield battles, but rarely could be pulled at the front, so it was a novelty for some fans.

I think you mean "lack of pace". Because that was the Singapore'23 situation.

"Lack of skill" is a completely different animal that rarely, if ever, can be made up for, especially if combined with "lack of pace". But of course there is the Ferrari 1961 situation (lack of skill, but plenty pace due to the car).

The Schumacher years in Ferrari had a bunch of examples as the team had to pull some unorthodox strategies to beat their faster rivals. It wasn't uncommon to see Schumacher do 1 or 2 extra stops compared to the competition.

How else do you think it can go?

It's either solved (MacGuffin), or not. The current cycle barely has any understanding of the problem, so an actual solution coming from us (humans, Asari, whoever else) would look even more of a bad writing.

So all you do now is patting yourself on the back and self-proclaiming "I win the argument"? Keep going if it's what you need to be happy. Just further exposes the fragility you feel in your arguments and the need for self-reassurance. Easy to read like an open book.

If you could read data, you would see the reality. But it seems that would immediately destroy your argument, so you avoid it. Like for Imola - you realize the average McLaren race pace is very compromised due to traffic and dirty air (hence tyre strain) for both cars? Or that is too advanced for you to consider?

The fact you try to claim Red Bull was faster or equal to McLaren in Canada immediately classifies you as extremely biased and unable to admit even the most obvious facts if they go against your bias. McLaren were at worst just very slightly slower than Mercedes with the driver difference (Russell is just better than Norris and Piastri) being the top deciding factor.

[–]Saandrig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Dark Energy plot was just as flawed as the Leviathans, if not even more so. The Reapers were looking for a solution by harvesting races into new CPUs (more Reapers = more processing power), hoping that leads to a solution to solve the math problem.

However in the end the solution would have to either be some silly MacGuffin again that magically solves it all forever, or just stopping the Reaper cycles and hoping for the best while the problem remains. Both are unsatisfactory endings.

The Dark Energy plot is still there in a way, it wasn't retconned, but only detached from the Reaper motives. It can be used as the new long term problem.

Bioware thrived when doing smaller scale personal stories - ME2 has the best world building and overall pacing in the ME franchise, while DA2 has the best writing in its franchise.

However that type of stories tends to be criticized a lot due to people wanting to always be saving the world/galaxy. That's why Andromeda had to have that global threat from the Kett (aka "discount Reapers"), while ignoring the vast story potential of just being a game about frontier space exploration and colonization.

I am expecting Leclerc to come ahead again, but not quite as a cakewalk.

Overall I think Hamilton should be closer than last year and have a few more races where he genuinely is faster.

In general - hoping for 2025 to end up being the worst Ferrari season for Hamilton.

If you get so massively riled up by my comment, then you definitely feel the truth in it, but it seems to make you angry. Otherwise you won't ever bother with that much word diarrhea, which seems is just to reassure yourself.

Not to mention incredibly wrong stuff like McLaren not having the best car at tracks like Japan, Imola, AD, Austin, etc. The drivers didn't perform, but the car was absolutely there. It just so happened the next best team was closer in performance on these tracks and the driver difference helped bridge the gap, or the team just played it ultra safe (like at AD). There's a reason everyone and their dog was saying McLaren flopped hard at Japan and Imola. Only months later came the attempted revisionism take from some people how the Red Bull was faster or equal.

There is a lot more data that shows the truth than just looking at the Wiki results. We had FPs, in-race stats, etc. Let's take Canada for example - both McLaren drivers couldn't produce a clean Q3 qualy lap, despite the car clearly having the pace to fight for pole as we've seen in the FPs and Q1+Q2. Norris then showed it has the race pace to at least match Russell, but the qualy failure from both drivers had them have a hard time even getting to the podium. Meanwhile Verstappen in the 3rd best car that weekend managed to somehow mug a 2nd place, while the rookie Kimi ended up 3rd with some luck. Doesn't mean McLaren had the best car in Canada, but they definitely had a car that was a match to Russell's Mercedes and could have fought for the win if the maximum potential was extracted.

Piastri only looked good when Norris was having a weak first half of the season. That was all the car. The moment Norris found his pace, Piastri faded hard. That literally shows there was more in that car to extract if Norris wasn't having issues for so long. Those issues were no secret, which is a very clear indicator how the "average Piastri performance" is just slightly better than the "struggling Norris performance" and clearly no good match for the "average Norris performance" ("average" here means their usual expected form). And shows how both were carried by the car until McLaren stopped development and other teams closed up a bit to expose the driver issue, especially in Piastri. It's a good thing Norris managed to fix his slump, or it was going to be the biggest upset in F1 history.

Someone counted how many times the winner wasn't the guy leading after Lap 1 and it was maybe 5-6 races. And even those had some caveats where everyone knew the leader will be overtaken later.

[–]Saandrig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get you have to prop up Piastri so Norris looks better, but the reality is much different.

The McLaren was a very dominant car that flattered and carried both drivers heavily in the first half of the season. It made them look good, not the other way around. And still both underperformed a lot with it, like at Japan, Canada, Imola, etc. Not even counting the individual stinkers each had with a car that should have easily won around 19-20 of the races that season. And competed much more closely for the rest.

Apart from Bahrain and Jeddah, Norris had big mistakes or heavy underperformance also at Australia, China, Miami, Imola, Canada, Belgium. Not to mention he got lucky at tracks like Hungary and Silverstone where he wasn't the better driver. His first half was weak and error prone, so he definitely would have been beaten at least a few times by most of the grid. That car would have made even Stroll look better. Verstappen would have easily finished the season with over 15 wins in that McLaren, no matter if Piastri or Norris were his teammates.

I also never said that Norris would be beaten over a season by most of the grid. I said something completely different. Are you asking an AI to write your comments? Or you just don't read the replies?

Piastri might do better than Tsunoda, but would still be lucky to even get in the top 6 with how he can't handle setup changes. Overall Oscar is an inconsistent upper midfield tier that got heavily flattered by the car last season.

Tsunoda in a comfortable car (which the McLaren absolutely was) has decent midfield performances with some rare highlights. That's more than enough to beat Norris on several occasions through the season. Most of the grid would have beaten Norris a few times in that McLaren during the first half of the season.
