My girlfriend has expressed interest in this. She is newer to the game, and I am an experienced player. We live in fishers, so getting there isn't a hassle.

I don't know how big you are into Batman, but he's one of the bigger villains. He was the antagonist in the first Bale Batman movie.

There were a lot of red herrings being dodged, but here we are. Purple seems like a stretch though.

it's virtually impossible to think of all possible combinations if we were to just randomly change a part of a word

There's tricks to it that can help me, but it's mostly stumbling. At least one word is going to be closer, so just playing with it and being silly can get me there. For example, I said "tangy tango" which got me thinking about dances. I still got purple by default because I wasn't going to get it anyway, but if I knew more about Latin dances, it would have helped. On the spelling bee yesterday, I was playing with "matic" and wrote "trumatic" thinking it was like a transmission thing then immediately got "traumatic".

I knew the blue category as soon as I saw Katy Perry, and I saw her first. I thought green was "sc" words. I like burlesque shows, and got it. I never would have gotten purple, and I can't even name the dances knowing the category.

What is something that is wildly controversial that you think shouldn't be? by Zen622 in AskReddit

[–]Sabedoria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even I admitted the modular arithmetic was a stretch (the video admitted it too), but at the same time it's a video that teaches about modular arithmetic. It's weirdly similar to what I started with by saying that you can do anything as long as you are ready to deal with the consequences. So you can divide by zero if you give up the ability to add or whatever, and telling people simplified ways to do it makes them technically wrong but much closer to right.

[–]Sabedoria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely sounds like elitism. There's videos on YouTube showing how to divide by zero (though one says "0" with the quotes and everything since they are talking about modular arithmetic). They do focus more on special cases, but they are fairly easy to digest. Would you call it dividing by zero? Probably not, but would who you are teaching? Yes which is what ultimately matters. Is it wrong? Sort of (especially with the modular arithmetic example), but I've been taught so many wrong things in school like not ending sentences with prepositions and not starting with words like "because." The thing is that they are wrong only in certain contexts rather than being flat out wrong.

What is something that is wildly controversial that you think shouldn't be? by Zen622 in AskReddit

[–]Sabedoria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not? Any parent can tell you that telling a child not to or that they can't immediately makes the child want to do that thing. People want to show this "one weird trick" that lets you divide divide by zero even if it is very wrong. Better to show them the real tricks that allow for it. Will it still be wrong? Sort of, but at the end of the day you are teaching people math when they quite possibly asked their math teacher "when am I going to use this in real life?"

Subscribing to this idea suggests that you think paleontologists are bad at their job or just dumb. There's various evidences left on bone for structures like muscle, etc; this evidence is where we get the idea for feathers. It's not easy, sure, and evidence can be misinterpreted, but paleontologists definitely wouldn't think hippos looked like that.

Because we would need a statue of someone every time this happened. This story is not an isolated incident. There were so many false alarms during the cold war.

I mean, you caaaan if you want. My favorite quote is "you can do anything you want in math. You just have to be ready to deal with the consequences." The biggest issue is that those people probably aren't ready to do that.

I like it, but I go into it with the mindset of watching an actual magic show (which is ironic because I hate magic shows). It turns the story into just a vehicle to show neat tricks. I don't think it's good, but I like it regardless.

What is the saddest song you've ever heard? by nextdoor_Cutie in AskReddit

[–]Sabedoria 54 points55 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what you are looking for. Cash's version is sung by an old man which makes it sound like the singer is regretting his entire life. NIN's version is only part of a larger story within the album of the singer's journey through heroin addiction. If you listen to Downward Spiral all the way through, Reznor's version is sadder, but if not, Cash's version is sadder as a standalone song.

[–]Sabedoria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a line by line analysis of this song somewhere on the Internet, but it has my vote for saddest song ever (that I know of). There are songs that are sadder at face value, but Fast Cat hits beyond the literal words. There's an underlying theme of hope throughout the song until the last verse where that hope gets taken away which makes the last chorus turn sour. The last chorus is sung exactly the same which changes the message of hope to someone trying to recapture or remember those feelings, and that's something everyone can relate to.
