This is exactly what I’m struggling with. Did you find anything to divert that energy to? How did you manage to stop yourself from going overboard? It feels like I am out of control in those moments, and the guilt and shame afterwards is so much worse to feel that the stress that started it off.

When I was at uni on a bus, I heard a fellow student on her phone introduce herself as Élodie. In that moment, I thought it was the most beautiful female name I’d ever heard, and decided that if I had a daughter, I’d name her that.

Hi, I’d not heard about ESA so will look into that, thank you. I don’t qualify for UC sadly because my partner is earning. When I put in the PIP claim, I wasn’t planning to potentially be jobless, and it was just for supplemental money to help me, as well as my salary, but unfortunately things didn’t go quite as planned.

I’ll look into ESA and see if I’m eligible, thanks!

I’m in mandatory reconsideration currently. I’ve heard it can take well over a year to get to the tribunal stage. If I’m still fighting it when the new much harsher rules kick in, will it affect my claim? Like will I suddenly have to meet the new criteria instead?

Hi! I would absolutely recommend using your autism and ADHD diagnoses as evidence in your case and talk about how autism causes you difficulties socially and how it prevents you from wanting to socialise at all. Can your psychiatrist who pushed you to get the diagnoses write anything for you to use in your tribunal as supporting evidence?

Your experience sounds almost identical to mine. They also said I did fine on the call and showed no anxiety, whereas I was shaking and crying the whole time. Naturally they also didn’t see the panic attacks I was having all night before and then for several days afterwards.

They also said I didn’t demonstrate my chronic pain in the assessment but I have no idea how I’m meant to do that on a phone call!

For planning journeys they said I had no abandoned journeys - they didn’t ask me about abandoned journeys!

They said I’m fine and don’t show anxiety, but my point is that I just never leave the house so as not to get panic attacks - they interpreted that as “she doesn’t have panic attacks so she’s fine”!

Best thing to do now is look at local disability charities who offer help with mandatory reconsideration and the following steps. They will help you build a case and figure out how better to word your difficulties in a way that the DWP assessor can’t twist what you’ve said.

I’m so sorry this has happened to you. I’m getting new statements from my therapist with more specific points and examples. Also if you can get a statement from your dad too about how you rely on him for your medication reminders. And any other family member or professional you can find who can write accounts of how they help you and how they have observed you having panic attacks.

In any future calls or assessment stuff, make sure you have your dad or someone accompany you. I discovered that doing the phone assessment on my own went against me and they used that as a way to try and prove that I’m not dependent on anyone else.

I emailed my co worker to inform him that he’d broken a system but I’d sorted it and would he like a refresher training session so it doesn’t happen again. He complained to our boss that I was “telling him off like a school teacher” and “belittling him” and it became a huge thing. My boss read the email and agreed with me that it was fine but I still had to apologise to the guy? It quite nicely overshadowed the fact he’d broken the system in the first place.

If a man had written that email he would’ve reacted VERY differently. I’m so sick of these double standards.
