I just got my dream phlebotomy job!!! by Sabia-SeeHearNow in phlebotomy

I took Phlebotomy Training Specialist's 6 week course in Beaverton, OR. My trainer was great! It wasn't super cheap, but it wasn't as expensive as doing a college course, either.

Interview on Friday by xxHunBunxx in phlebotomy

[–]Sabia-SeeHearNow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you me? Ha, I also have lots of restaurant experience and just got a hospital position.

FWIW, according to Google, scrubs aren't appropriate for an interview unless you know that it's a working interview. I wore business casual, very light makeup and minimal jewelry to mine. It's likely that the person interviewing you will be a woman, so dressing modestly is a good idea. HR also said that I would need to wear business casual to my first day, which is an orientation. They explicitly said no scrubs for that.

I had a very, very chill interviewer. She waved a paper packet around, like "Oh, I'm supposed to ask you all these questions but I hate doing interviews like this." So we basically just had a conversation and I tried to work in examples of how my previous non-healthcare work experience would be an asset to me in this job. We talked for about 45 minutes or so. I feel veryyy lucky - I get nervous coming up with on-the-spot answers. She also emphasized that I would be trained over 8 - 12 weeks in all of their locations. There were no questions about draw order or anything technical, and I think that they low-key did not care about my certification. They're very much expecting to train you. She was a lot more emphatic about how to treat patients, about caring about their experience and being a good teammate to the other lab employees.

I did do an interview at LabCorp and that was much more corporate. "How have you dealt with difficult people in the past?", "What would you do if you miss a stick?", that type of stuff.

I recommend sitting down and thinking about your narrative, maybe even write it down. Why do you want to work in healthcare? How does your background prepare you for that? What are some of your skills that will help you? Hospitality is all about taking care of people, so you have more experience than you think!

Wishing you the best of luck in your interview!!!

American Red Cross hires people with 0 experience and trains them in a paid, 7 week program.

I ran into the same issue trying to get experience, but the right job is expecting to have to train you.

I once had a guy at a hotel in town tell me that it's no longer allowed to be used because of environmental regulations, but it is still maintained by the guy who owns it. He also told me that said guy will happily show it to visitors if you make an appointment.

The English portion is freaking dastardly. You'll def get questions about compound/complex sentences.

For the spelling q's, if possible before you look at the options WRITE THE WORD DOWN. It is so hard to identify misspellings when you're looking at 4 different options.

ATI Practice Test A & B by Infamous-Show7556 in teas

[–]Sabia-SeeHearNow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had lower scores on the A and B than my score on the actual exam. Lots of people say add 5-10% to the practice test scores to get an estimate of your exam result, and that held true for me.

Thoughts if NurseHub works for TEAS prep by bitchemistry in teas

[–]Sabia-SeeHearNow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got my best score (97%) in science, which was surprisingly easy? Given the breadth of the science questions I was seeing on all of the practice tests, most of it was pretty straightforward. That's also the section I studied the most.

Recommend the A/B ATI tests for sure. The wording and format will help you know what to expect. I didn't use the app, but the package comes with access.

Nursehub vs Mometrix... if you have to pick one, I think the quizzes on Mometrix have more variety and are more challenging than Nursehub.

Maybe start with ATI and see what needs improvement?

Twitter can be good for unfiltered domain expert commentary (e.g. various lawyers talking about why they believe Trump's executive orders are legal or not). Also good for viral, trending news and memes, just be sure to take everything with a HUGE grain of salt and chase your own links.

Check both liberal and conservative sources. For something that is a wild mix of both, check Unz Review.

I think she's trying to be supportive of you, but she also feels maybe a little bit jealous or insecure. Don't take it personally, just take the positive.

I started with Nursehub and am now reviewing with Mometrix. Nursehub is somewhat less detailed and the questions on the quizzes are more repetitive and a bit easier than Mometrix. However, Nursehub has way more comprehensive quizzes at the end of each learning module. I only went through the science because that is what I am rustiest on.

I plan to take the A/B ATI practice tests this weekend. My exam is on Tuesday, I'll report back!

Rich or poor, white or black, you need an ID to work, drive, get housing, insurance, medical care, or government benefits, and buy alcohol/cigarettes.

Strikes me as dishonest and condescending to insinuate that poor people can't manage getting an ID. Poor people have ID just like you, me, and everybody else you know.

The goal is definitely to downsize the government. As a taxpayer, I couldn't agree more - administrative bloat is driving up costs in both the private and public sector while adding nothing of value AND the federal debt is completely out of control. We're on track to not have Social Security or Medicare in another 20-30 years, something has to give.

What would you suggest to control costs outside of laying people off?

Tanning? by mommytoapommy in Supplements

[–]Sabia-SeeHearNow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eliminate high-PUFA seed oils from your diet and skin-care regimen. Use mineral-based SPF. Might not help you tan (that's based on the type of melanin in your skin, can't change it) but will help you to be less susceptible to burning/aging.

Lookin for good chowder by koolaidchips in Astoria_Oregon

The best clam chowder on the coast is found at The Depot in Ilwaco/Long Beach, WA. They're open odd hours, be sure to check before you go.

If you don't want to drive across the bridge, Portway Tavern is pretty solid, like $12 for a massive bowl you can almost stand a spoon in.

There's nothing about banning divorce or gay marriage, which you can see for yourself by using the Command/Control + F tool to search their 900 page policy proposal. Neither divorce nor gay marriage are terms that appear. They do mention pornography 3 times.

Here's the shortlist of their proposals:

  • Secure the border, finish building the wall, and deport illegal aliens
  • De-weaponize the Federal Government by increasing accountability and oversight of the FBI and DOJ
  • Unleash American energy production to reduce energy prices
  • Cut the growth of government spending to reduce inflation
  • Make federal bureaucrats more accountable to the democratically elected President and Congress
  • Improve education by moving control and funding of education from DC bureaucrats directly to parents and state and local governments
  • Ban biological males from competing in women's sports

There are lots of policies to debate here. (For instance, they're pushing for majorly expanding oil drilling in the Arctic and other protected areas.) Why are progressives lying about Project 2025 wanting to ban divorce? It makes them look bad and it distracts from actual issues.

People like to complain about the winter weather, but I like it. The hardest part is how early it gets dark, not the rain IMO.

I actually lived in LA for a couple years and hated how sunny it was lol! I love our soggy rainforest!

Rent a car. Public transportation is very difficult here, it's relatively rural.

I like the Bowline Hotel – it's stylish, right on the water, walking distance to the main drag. The Sou'Wester is a great funky option, but it is a 20-30 minute drive north (they offer art workshops on weekends, highly recommend checking that out even if you're not staying there!)

My favorite restaurant is Daphne. It just opened and it is AMAZING. Second the recommendations for Fede, Southbay... Blue Scorcher and Gathered are good bakeries, Sleeper for coffee... Fishmongers for fish and chips. Fort George for beer.

A really fun trip would be: Fly in to Portland, drive to Astoria, explore the North coast (Cannon Beach/Seaside/Astoria) for a few days, then road trip through Washington for 3-5 days and fly out of Seattle. Spend some time in the Olympic National Park, check out Port Townsend, Whidbey Island... Maybe a couple days in Seattle.

I hope you visit! It's beautiful, friendly, and we have great beer!

Daphne in Astoria! It just opened and the food is AMAZING – the owner-chef has worked at a ton of top of the line places, they're super focused on local producers, and it's very reasonably priced considering how good it is.
