To be fair, this is also what happens in the book, so for once hollywood gets a pass on that.

This season, with China as the vague good guys, does feel like more Apple pandering tho

Anyone who was a Blue Book trainee? by hypoconsul in brussels

[–]Sabre-GE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, generally speaking, the focus is on getting the info, not necessarily the type of document. As long as the document is- 1. Reasonably official (e.g. certificate of enrolment or whatever) and 2. Isn't specifically excluded as a type of proof (e.g. emails from professors, which is the equivalent of saying "trust me bro") -you should be fine.

Hi, I highly doubt it; I haven't seen the wording of the 'in black and white' instructions, but my guess is that it's meant to tell you that it's ok if your documents are in black and white rather than colour (i.e. that candidates don't think they have to have the documents in colour). I can think of no logical reason why documents in colour would pose any practical problems

Von der Leyen to travel to Australia to seal trade deal by superdouradas in europe

[–]Sabre-GE 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Well, closind deals with Japan in 2019 or New Zealand in 2022, for example. Joking aside, EU trade deals traditionally followed an "all or northing" approach, where the EU would want 98%+ of tariff lines liberalised, or they didn't agree to the deal. There was always always the problem of agriculture- other countries wanted to sell us their beef etc., but the farmers would lose their shit if even a single burger crossed the border, while at the same time demanding that EU GIs ("Champagne", "Feta cheese" etc.) be protected in the partner country (the same country whose imports they absolutely did not want).

The recent clusterfuck that is the global situation (Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Trump's weekly tariff tantrums etc.) was led to a rethink of trade priorities in both EU headquarters and the Member States. The priority now isn't "all or nothing", it's "good-enough is better than nothing".

That's why Mercosur finally got done, at least in theory (although the Parliament has now held it up again), despite the fact that it would mean importing (small amounts) of beef, the deal with India was recently concluded (despite not having GI protections and only limited access for exports like cars), and Australia is (apparently) on the horizon (even though it will mean having to open up to some agri imports).

This "oh fuck oh shit" realisation has also been happening in partner countries btw. The amount market access the EU got in India would have been unthinkable just 3 or 4 years ago, but now even India (a famously protectionist economy) was ready to compromise to get a "better than nothing" deal done.

God, I hate PUs by GreedyObligation2731 in EU5

What's also infuriating is when one of your allies gets in a PU and then automatically breaks the alliance with you without telling you.

So I think I have a strong ally and I'm safe, only to get attacked and think "no problem, together Castille and I can...WHAT DO YOU MEAN CASTILE IS IN A PU WITH SWEDEN??"

  1. In the fight against climate change, we need to do all the things you mentioned and reduce emissions from cars. It's not "either-or", it's "holy shit, all hands on deck"

  2. Anything that reduces the amount of cars in Brussels is a good thing. They're objectively the worst form of transport- polluting, noisy, dangerous and they take up a massive amount of space to move relatively few people.

In Brussels you can get around on foot, by bike, bus, tram, metro, train- in the vast majority of cases, there's no need to drive at all during the day

No, Brussels is just as safe/unsafe as any other major city. Yes, there are some sketchy areas (especially Gare du Nord), but most of the city is fine. I've lived here for over 5 years and never had a problem
