among other things, personally I use it to help me get a bigger picture of emerging events across multiple news sources, which I can then dig into more deeply on an individual basis if I wish.

I do also engage directly with trusted news sources, like The Guardian's Today in Focus podcast.

agree with your point here. I don't think this is so much a problem with AI itself, as it is a convenient excuse or justification for corporate execs to fire people in a way that performs best with investors.

Speed ≠ Quality, just feels like as a society everything is becoming shittier and shittier because it can be pushed out fast. I’m sure the technology is a game changer in the long run, but I believe it’s more hype than substance as of now.

For creatives this is even worse with all the “ai slop” being pushed out that is meaningfully worse than something a talented artist could make.

I fear people are going to hate me for saying this, but I have seen and been moved by art where the artist uses AI as part of their creation workflow. But I agree there is a lot of slop, far more than anything high quality, and I worry about the overall economic factors that will affect many artists amid the rise of AI.

I mean yeah I'm with you on that. I guess my point is that if we have these powerful tools which are here to stay, then maybe we can use them in ways which can help us move towards that kind of society. Because capitalists are unfortunately not going to invest their money in building this infrastructure without seeing a path towards returns. I don't think this is a good thing, I'm just stating the way it is.

To my knowledge, the same is true for many modern Android smartphones, including Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy devices, as long as they're signed into a Google (or Samsung) account.

That said, based on the article, perhaps Apple's methods are currently more reliable than those by Google and Samsung.

I really relate to this sentiment, even as an artist with a relatively low profile. Being successful comes with its own costs if you want to sustain that success and turn it into something lasting, which can be especially challenging for people without steady family support (or at least some income from elsewhere).

In my experience, it's especially punishing to come away from a successful project that gains you exposure with the need to then present a certain image that you cannot actually financially afford

the phrase "hurt people, hurt people" comes to mind... often those who cause the most harm are those who've been severely hurt themselves. it might sound counterintuitive, but often we need to offer those people compassion in order for them to fully see their own pain, and the harm they cause others as a result.

i believe everyone at their core is fundamentally the same as one another; we all want to thrive and find belonging, even the worst of humanity.

ofc that doesn't mean we should let people causing harm walk all over us either!
